    There are efforts under way to distance the shooter from any political influences, but US currency issues are a favorite topic of the Tea Party and/or Libertarians. Obviously, this troubled young man was influenced by the politics of his home state. Who among us could live in Arizona these days and not be inundated with inflamatory political rhetoric? I say it was a factor affecting his mental state at the time of the shooting.

    The Arizona shootings were senseless and beyond understanding. It is my understanding we have 30-40 murders every day in the US. Those to me are just as tragic but where are all the voices for those people. That violence goes on every single day. What we are doing isn't working.

    This morning on "Examining Mental Illness" I was very disappointed to hear the language used by Candy Crowley. Identifying individuals as "schizophrenics" sounds insensitive and disrespectful. There is more to each person than a diagnosis. How about saying this person is diagnosed with Schizophrenia instead of " is schizophrenic". I was appalled.
