We need to put the blame where it belongs, on the person committing the crime. No matter what anyone says about influences, that person makes a choice to commit a crime.

@ Jo Ann, no not with a legal purchased gun...
Last decade there was one filmmaker and one politician shot though. Changed the Netherlands forever.

There are so many people who can fit the profile of Jared Loughner. I think we have a shortage of mental health facilities and laws that prevent people like this guy from getting the help that they need. It's sad.

@Charlie, "He lauded his son's shooting credentials and called for this incident not to decrease "out freedoms"."

I was shocked to hear that myself. I don't understand the mentality of anyone who would want to kill a living creature for enjoyment.

The thing is it is people that kill, a person has to pull the trigger for a gun to fire.

It should be interesting once the FBI report is released because only then will we know what types of things this individual was involved in and what was going on in his head. I'm glad that they confiscated his personal computer on the same day of this tragic incident!

    Hello Anderson, everyone.

The normal condolences for everybody, including the state of Arizona who has taken the brunt of the scrutiny. A horrible tragedy for the Families and survivors, but nobody wants the homeless children on the streets. Nobody wants the mentally ill or what living on the streets does to the homeless. Since the recession in our town, citizens have put 16-18 yr-old's on the streets that have no where to go. Just now in this year have they opened a place for those kids that are homeless on the streets to go. It's insane, I can't imagine what it's like in larger cities, I can't imagine what it's like in southern cities.

What my point is, this kid was living with his parents, had upteen times where people could have stepped in and changed the course of his destiny by stepping up and red flagging him. But nobody did. What do you that sitting is sitting in wait in the broken minds of the homeless children that have been discarded on our streets like garbage?

So many people are trying to rationalize the irrational. It is the fault of the suspect, and with that creepy expression on his face in his mugshot, he looks pretty proud of himself. Really Sick!

I don't think it right for any politician to have on there website a hit list and of the location where they can be hit indicating with a sharp shooter scope symbol. The Congresswoman did fear for her life.

Those that were in that crowd were very heroic and able to maintain control. It's great to see The Best brought out in so many people when there's one that causes such violence & chaos.

@eddie: an answer to "report to who" question. The school could have reported his angry, threatening behaviors to the police who could have interviewed him, taken him to a mental health facility for an assessment by a professional. If he declined help but was assessed as being a threat of harming himself or others, he could have been held and gone in front of a judge who presides over a mental health court and been adjudicated to treatment. Once committed for treatment, this becomes recorded by the police and he would not have passed a gun check.

You're telling me he was skitsofranic, everyone knew him, people feared him, no one reports him, and it was premeditated? Come on, where is the line where action will start, 33 dead in Virginia Tech, 18 shot in Arizona...it doesn't matter if you're Republican or Democrat, saving lives is an issue everyone agrees on.

It should be interesting to hear from the suspect's parents. I wonder if they knew about the letter from the congresswoman he kept in a locked safe? Did they feel he needed counseling? I hope they cooperate and provide the FBI with the info they'll need to better understand this strange individual.

How many more Columbines, VA Tech., Snipers, etc etc do we have to have before people get it?? We need to curb drastically the availability of guns – it is so plainly obvious – this incident has nothing to do with politic rhetoric but with the ease of getting a Glock 19.

Anderson – keep up the good work!

We know now that he cannot plea 'not guilty due to mental insanity' due to that note he wrote before he comitted the shooting. He admitted that he planned it so that proves he knew what he was doing and that it was wrong

Report this crazy person *to whom?* If the person is mentally ill, and has not committed any crime... who do you report him to? The fact is, gun ownership is easy in America, and largely unregulated...
