Thanks for covering news shooting in Tucson, AZ..... Very indeed sad, Agree with you! 🙂
If concealed carry was working so well for AZ, where were the defenders?
Jared Longhner didn't ever go in front of a judge, that's why he was able to get a gun, and carry it around. In AZ you can carry a gun.
The gun laws have to take into account that lots of times people will not take the personal risk and effort to pursue things like court orders against scary dangerous people they encounter in life. Keeping guns out of their hands can't depend on that.
That the problem, they always covering up for the wrongdoers.
Dana Loesch is wrong. Our gun laws are not strong, this shooting and the past shootings that have happened proves it
No one is to blame but the shooter. But I'm sorry, words do have consequences. And they do need to tone it down. And I'm so tired of them trying to make us believe its the same on both sides. Its not!
In AZ, you can carry any kind of gun there.
Too much rhetoric yes from the Repub side, talking about aiming and shooting targets on their ads and while campaigning, we have too many loonies in this country with guns; we don’t need guns… yes to Gun Control!
I think the intent for most political rhetoric is for impact, not to incite violence–though there does need to be greater sensitivity to words and images used in light of such incidents as this in Arizona.
Jared, didn't have any criminal record...recored in any court.
It's not about the "gun" or how he obtained it. That is the right of all Americans. The truth lies in the fact that he was not properly counseled on the 2nd amendment . Although everyone has the right to bare arms, some should be monitored while baring those arms. Semi-automatic weapons, I believe, are not what our founding fathers meant by those words. Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, and others never imagined that we as people of The United States of America would use those weapons against each other. Those words were written to assure the safety of us citizens towards those that want to take our liberties; not to use against each other for simple violence.
hope this shooting is an isolated incident – this is NOT the kind of thing we want to see under "trending"
Hi Anderson;
What I don't understand is how these shootings are happening? I live in Canada and we have very strict gun laws. Mass shootings are so rare here. Maybe the U.S. Government should look at what's working up here. Try harder to get those guns off the streets and not so easy to aquire. For example: We can't just open fire when someone steps on our property.
By the way, I support Obama!
Heather – Spokane, WA
Hopefully Rep. Griffin has no damage to her brain
Heather,
I hope not be damage her brain........ I hope so.... I agree.
Here we go again – the finger pointing by both parties as to who caused this shooting to occur.
Although there is no evidence of a politcal motive, just the fact that this man chose to attempt to assinate a member of Congress does seem to lean towards some kind of political motive!
Either way, the toxic politics that have been going on since 2000, has, in my mind, contributed a level of rage in this country that cannot be ignored.
This "political rhetoric" has been equal on both sides, I think.
I remember all that was said about George W.Bush when he was President. I can recall seeing people burning an effigy of a George Bush likeness. It was all called, “freedom of speech”.
I'm pleased that on AC360°, yous focused on mental illness rather than politicize this tragedy.
(This is my first blog response) Great group of responders on such a tragic event. My hope has been that we would not be finger pointing each other's political party but be united in our grief and be able to find ways to prohibit such grim actions in our country. I thought we had risen above the blame game...then Bill Maher spewed his untruthful rant on the Republicans and Palin! Too bad.
I also heard the sheriff say that there was a bill before the Arizona legislature to legalize guns on University campus's. I would hate to be a law enforcement officer in Arizona with concealed weapon laws and Mexican drug cartels next door. His life is very very serious business when it comes to guns. I take him very seriously – he's in a bad spot – his men are in a very bad spot.
I heard a neighbor brought Christina to the event. Have we heard from he or she?
That clip of Rep. Giffords talking about being in the "crosshairs" and the consequences of that sort of imagery is so eery considering what happened to her. It is food for thought for sure.
Why have we become such a mean people, what happen to treat others as you want to be treated. Words are powerfull, please be mindfull of that
