I'm very disappointed with Dr. Gupta's lack of knowledge on this case. As Dr. Wakefield indirectly pointed out he must not have read the actual study or Dr. Wakefield's recent book. Dr. Gupta's questions were taken from information from Brian Deer, a reporter with no medical knowledge, that is doing everything he can to disclaim Dr. Wakefield.
This man is innocent. Anyone who is involved with the issues he studies will say the same. I am a sixteen-year-old boy that has experienced these horrors first hand. Although I do not have autism, I suffer from disabilities such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder and have irrational fears. I have a strong vocal tick that has modified over the years. I received my first vaccine at age three. Prior to that I had no history of OCD, ADD or any of the previously stated conditions. However, almost immediately after I received my vaccines they began. My mother thought that was fishy and opted out of giving me any more vaccines. Eventually my ticks became such an issue I had to be pulled out of school because I’d become overly sensitive. Frantic for a cure we consulted many psychiatrists, all of which prescribed the household name drug Prozac. I took it as prescribed for over six months, my symptoms got worse. The dosage was upped and I took it for four more months, again my symptoms got worse. For a third and final time my dosage was upped. After a year of taking this drug and seining no improvements, we decided to seek other alternatives. We came across authors like Dr. Andrew Wakefield and Doris Wrap that questioned the western method of medicine and encouraged to explore alternative options such as homeopathy. At the time we were able to try anything and so we researched and found one of the top homeopathic clinic in the nation, located in Arizona. We didn’t expect much but again were willing to try anything. I was placed on a grueling diet and giving homeopathic remedies. We saw progress almost instantly. My OCD has been at a lifelong low, as well as all my other conditions, and I was able to go back to school where I have received straight A’s since the sixth grade. My mind became sharp and I look and feel healthy. There was no telling that the homeopathic treatment is what did the trick. If I hadn’t sought other options and just stuck with the western medicine there’s no telling what would have happened to me. Homeopathy is for some reason frowned upon, maybe it’s because it take business away from the pharmaceuticals. I’m not here to conspire; I’m here to tell a story. In my time in Arizona I shared a room with many autistic children and adults. All of which made some sort of minor or major improvement over time. It’s not fair for one to pass judgment before they hear both sides of the story, and no one has given Dr. Wakefield or anyone like him a fair change to explain their selves. All we do is make allegations towards them. I beg someone to ask one of the thousands of people who saw positive results from their work and then see if the allegations made are true, or the effect of a drug company feeling threatened by an opponent. Please, simply read their books; hear their side of the story that helped so many people through tough times, if after you still feel the same way then so be it. No one can disprove that this form of medicine works for some people.

I am a mother with a son that was completely normal until his MMR shot. 13 days later he lost 9 pounds, stopped eating, talking, acted deaf. A year later he was called Autistic. This was in the US, I didn't even know of Dr. Wakefield. However, my son's medical records are spot on to Dr. Wakefield's findings. I am involved with several organizations and we are not anti-vaccine, there are too many given, too soon! Plus... just because you receive a vaccine, does not guarantee you will not get the, flu, mumps, whooping cough...
As a retired teacher with a major in Emotional Impairment I vehemently agree that parents of any special need child can be easily preyed upon by dishonest "professionals". I personally had to deal with the J. McCarthy misinformation repeatedly. I do see her and hers as victims as well, but as the mother of a researcher, parents need to be better informed as to where they should be reading about current valid research.
Thank God, Dr Wakefield looked at this children, and hade NO CALLOUS DISREGARD for their symptoms, like diahrreah all day, constipation, seizures, etc. Obviously they had translocation of the gut, swelling, inflammation, viral persistence etc. There is not only MMR in the gut, there is XMRV in the gut, there is enterovirsues from polio in the gut. These kids have an immune dysfunction, much like a child with AIDS who also have been reported to have LNH in the gut. (think XMRV). Please cooper, you are a smart guy, you can read books and journals just like all the rest of us had to do. Obviously, you ripped the AP wires, and just never investigated what was so obviously a railroad job...and let's face it, the vaccine uptake is horrid right now, because people are waking up. Tis the reason for the protest and railroad job?
