The airlines would be bankrupt in no time if they paid for every weather delay incurred. Passengers have to take some responsiblity when these situations occur. Recognize they are traveling at the busiest time of the year, watch the wx forecast and develop a back up plan. (Read the airline rules and regulations when you purchase the cheap tickets). On the other hand, the airlines should have more people on staff to accomodate the passengers and coordinate, recommend alternate options to safely get passengers from point a to b in these situations. Allowing individual passengers to deplane in these situations causes chaos for the ground crew who are responsible for removing deplaning passengers bags as well. Keep in mind for security reasons once the passengers leave a sterile area they must be screened again before boarding again.
