9/11 first responders left waiting: Join the Live Chat

[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/02/liveblogfinal.copy.jpg]

Tonight, the lawmaker known as Doctor No, Senator Tom Coburn may end up single-handedly saying no to thousands of 9/11 first responders. We're Keeping him Honest. The author of a how-to guide for pedophiles, previously sold on Amazon, is in jail tonight and he's speaking out. And, in Crime and Punishment, the mysterious and tragic death of a toddler, a cold case solved.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

Good night fellow writers. Excellent comments, especially re: med benefits for 911 rescuers. Please, those who can, call and/or write to your Senators, especially Sen. Coburn!

I think that it's really ironic that Juilian Assange is asking for "privacy" however, I do think that he's getting railroaded.

I remember when Chief Executive, Tony Hayward said that "he wanted his life back" during the BP spill. That's one quote that I'll always remember from 2010.

    @ Terri
We could send all the MDs that congress use for their medical care to the first responders. That might wake up Congress...You think?

The Democrats have offered six or seven different ways of funding the 9/11 Health Bill. Unfortunately, all of these funding plans would involve getting a couple of bucks out of the GOP's rich corporate buddies. The GOP worship corporate wealth to such an extent that they are willing to show all Americans how cruel they can be to sick and dying First Responders ...

Excellent retrospective of 2010 by Tom Foreman!

The miners, snow, especially Haiti! And, Haiti continues to be a bad news story every day, despite the excellent coverage and the aid that was sent.

I have to say that AC360 did an excellent job on the oil spill in the Gulf- great coverage and keeping them honest!

Many failures and triumphs this year.

I love the reviewing of the stories of the past year. Also it reminds me what a great job 360 does with these stories. No other reporters or programs did anywhere near the fantastic coverage on Haiti, the oil spill, or the Chilean miners.

    AC 360 rocks!

I can't believe that 2010 is about to end. There were so many catastrophic events that took place this year. I'm glad that a few had a happy ending.

These brave men and women deserve the same benefits that our military receive. They are just as brave as our military and give of their lives for all of us without thought. What happened on 9/11 was atrocious! But what all the first responders did was more amazing than words can say. It is appalling what Congress has been doing in delaying for 9 years in voting and passing 100% this act while these brave men and women continually suffer day in and day out. For any one of them to hesitate, to even think of questioning/denying "The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act" is incomprehensible. This should be passed immediately 100% across the aisle without any further hesitation, without political agenda's, "Pork", etc. We owe these men and women at least this much! Congress passes "PORK" without hesitation every day but has taken 9 years and still hasn’t got the job done on this one. Instead it is politics as usual! What a tragic example they have set. We have spent billions and billions on Iraq and Afghanistan and -0- for those here at home who risked and/or gave of their lives trying to save, rescue and recover those tragically involved in the 9/11 tragedy.

Good evening, I don't know all the in's & out's of this as I am just starting to look into it. All I know is that if I was in the trouble New York was in on 911, I would certainly pray to God that people with the hearts & Spirit of the first responders wouldn't think twice to help me or mine. Shame on anyone who doesn't want to find a way to help these wonderful and courageous people at whatever the cost and we will find some way to do it. Tell whoever is against this bill that they had ought to give up their expensive cars & drivers, trips and all the other expenses they take so for granted and help with the healthcare of the blessed souls of the first responders out of their expense accounts. My prayers are that the people in this country (and our congress) will start turning their hearts and lives back over to God and do the right things for this country and not just themselves, before it's too late.

What a sweet little girl. I have no doubt in my mind that that man kiled her, he was the last person to be with her, his information did not match what the evidence has and he already had a record too with the military for criminal offenses. Im happy that justice was served to her and her family

What the heck was Dana Loesch talking about when she said the 9/11 first responders health benefits bill was not paid for??? Senator Kirsten Gillibrand stated this evening that the bill is fully paid for by a fee placed on foreign companies that get procurement contracts from our government.

These 911 workers paid or volunteers, risk everything, by not knowing the hazards of the environment they worked in. The debate of how this will be paid for is stupidity and politics. If this doesn't pass I hope any congress person that votes against it will be voted out come next election if not kicked out before then.

Julie is correct. shaken baby would cause damage throughout the entire brain. This is so difficult to comprehend that a person would hit a baby with an object or use the baby as an object!

Tom Coburn was a member of the committee that was responsible for reviewing the 9/11 Health Bill. He didn't attend any of the meetings and now says that the bill was never reviewed and he will block it so he can have adequate time to reviewit. Dr. Coburn M.D. is playing games with the lives of the 9/11 First Responders.

How can Tom Coburn in good conscience vote to support tax cuts for the wealthy and then block relief for those who have, and continue to suffer from their efforts to save, and help other during 911? Because "you don't know how it would be payed for," Here are some suggested ways to pay for the bill #1. Stop your pay raise. #2 Reduce your pay to a previous level, #3. Stop the tax cut for the rich. Simply put; Pass The Bill!!!

@Robert DiGiovanni.... I hope and pray that your going to be OK. Fighting the battle with cancer is a rough and rocky road, I know that for sure. I watched some of the hearings and I hope they get this Bill passed soon. Good Luck to You. I also remember in 2003 when they said the air was ok and we found out later that it wasn't true.
