Senate to hold final vote on 'don't ask, don't tell,' DREAM Act fails

Washington (CNN) - The Senate will hold a final vote on "don't ask, don't tell" at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Earlier Saturday, the Senate voted 63-33 to proceed to a final vote to repeal the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy which bans openly gay people from serving in the armed forces.
Six Republicans crossed party lines to vote for the bill, which is supported by Democrats and President Obama. A simple majority will pass the legislation to repeal "don't ask, don't tell."
Following the 3 p.m. vote, the Senate will consider an amendment from Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, on START, a nuclear arms treaty with Russia.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid also announced that the Senate will be in session Sunday afternoon to continue the START debate.
Just before the "don't ask, don't tell" vote, a bill that would have offered a path to citizenship to some illegal immigrants who entered the United States as children failed a similar procedural vote.

on the surface they extend unemployment 13 months. that a lie, the long-term unemployed such as myself lose benefits all together because we were the 99ers. now we cant pay our bills and there is no job out here..they need to amend the law before america starts a roit.
I am amazed DADT finally actually passed,but all credit to Democrats from taking politics out of it by it being separated from defense bills, and being stand alone.
Dream Act disappointing, but glad to hear the the session will debate on Sunday START. I sincerely hope this passes as a McCain amendment designed to castrate the agreement was voted down.Enough already its been under debate for months passed House and senate committees had concessions given to Senator KYL, and recent polls show 70% of the nation wants it passed. Therefore grow up Republicans just because you won the House does not mean you have a mandate on everything. This is not a purely national issue but rather International and a place where in the past Bi partisanship has worked best ( not always) but generally speaking.
Tuesday and onwards on other bills will be interesting.Please re-activate and pass the food bill.
If all that gets done actually some "NON lame duck" session in reality.!!

I do agreed with the bill however, the question is, how we can proceeded something that is so complex into this world qualitative when there will a serious challenge occur psychologically and physiologically. This bill is not about voting for feeling it is an approach that is not scientifically proven on any virtue principle where there will not be any implication based on kernel violently on their exaggeration. Where we can say There won't be any out of context of this situation where infringement of our constitution won't be at stake based upon seven principles in body of Americans Constitutional approach. If this is a don't ask don't tell, then there will be a degree of suspicion among what seem to be normal and unfortunately become abnormal concept. Now what is the percentages become the phenomenon into this notion.
The defeat of the Dream Act is fantastic news. In a time of economic crisis it is unfathomable that some of our alleged representatives would be more concerned about the plight of people illegally in our country than US Citizens or legal residents. Of course the answer is that the Democrats seek to add to their voter base by this giveaway of citizenship to people who fundamentally do not respect our laws.
High-achieving illegal immigrant students already can receive private scholarship money and they can apply for a foreign student visa the way law-abiding people do.
I think the Dream Act would have passed if it were not so wide open with loopholes (e.g., the 10-year work visa to any applicant, even those who later are found to not qualify).
it's really sad that they are playing with people lives. they are penalizing people who are 'illegal' through no fault of their own.
I hope CNN and all Americans witnessed the distasteful and sad display of DIS-Honor, Senator McCain portrayed today on the Senate floor. Through carefully crafted rhetoric, Senator McCain connected the sacrifices, severe injuries and deaths of soldiers, with the service of Gay and Lesbian soldiers if they were allowed to be honest. Senator McCain went on to declare these injured and sacrificing soldiers are heroes, as individuals serving with great honor, which implied Gay and Lesbian soldiers are not heroes or honorable. Just disgraceful. Barry Goldwater (a stated hero of Senator McCain) would be ashamed. Shame on you Senator McCain for speaking out against veterans and currently serving soldiers who are Gay or Lesbian.
SENATROS, DON'T SIGN DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL...PLEASE. The American people have such a high respect for the military more than any other government organization. If the Senate signs this bill, they will begin to unravel the repsect of our prized military institutions.
I don't want openly gay men/women in our military. We don't need this now and never did before. If are for everbody and everything, we stand for nothing.
