[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/02/liveblogfinal.copy.jpg]

A president and former president walk into the White House briefing room. No joke, you've never heard this one before. We'll show you the remarkable moment. Barack Obama and Bill Clinton walk in, but only Clinton stays, at his old podium, to make a powerful pitch for President Obama's policies. We've got the raw politics and tonight's other headlines.

Want more details on what else we're covering? <a href="http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/category/the-buzz/" target="_blank">Read EVENING BUZZ

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

The corruption in Haiti has been cross generational around 60-80 years. Very sad. I wish these people a light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel!

Who can blame those poor people in Haiti for being "fed up". There seems to be no good news coming from there. Bless Sean Penn for his steadfast work on their behalf. He wasn't just there for the good press!! We have some problems in our country and not to minimize them at all but we are so blessed in comparison to other parts of the world.

Has Sean Penn ever said "why" Haiti had become so important to him? He really has put everything he has into Haiti and the people there from all that I've heard. (& sincerely seems concerned)

    @Jo Ann,
"Laws can change and sometimes these guys get paroled."

I don't think that Mitchell will be going anywhere anytime in the near future. I doubt that if there are any laws that are changed, they would be applicable to him. He got a fair trial. If any laws were to be changed, I think that they would be applicable to those convicted after the changes.

Ed Smart is right...what Mitchell did to his child was OUTrageous!
Elizabeth looked good and sounded better todaym, thank God she feels justice was done.
What she went through is a Lot to recover from and she's right, there are many victims out there who have not seen and may Never see Justice in their cases.

Good Evening Megan... I have never seen a president before or after that has that connective quality! He always came across as very genuine with a wonderful sense of humor!

I am heartened to see that "good men (and women)" will be present
    at Ms Edwards funeral tomorrow.
They stand in my stead andalso represent the thousands of breast cancer warriors mourning the loss of one of our own..She was the picture of grace and dignity ,always. Elizabeth RIP

Nine years is such a long time to wait for justice when the criminal is in jail.

@JoAnn, I don't think we have to worry about this guy getting out of prison ever

Really tragic what happened to Elizabeth Smart. Her entire life has been and will be changed. Excellent interview. She is a very strong woman! I only hope once this story is old, she does not drop out the bottom.

I am so impressed with Elizabeth Smart. For what she has been through, she seems to have risen above it all with the help of her family and her faith. She is so poised and gracious and more brave than many would be to come to court and speak so eloquently. I applaud the verdict. I'm sure her abductor has mental health issues but he broke into her bedroom in the dead of night and abducted her using threats. He knew what he was doing and that it was wrong.

The problem is that "life in prison" doesn't really mean life in prison. Laws can change and sometimes these guys get paroled.

I was so relieved when the verdict for Mitchell found him Guilty, not crazy.
Mitchell belongs in Jail for the rest of his life.
God bless Elizabeth Smart for all that she went through at 14 yrs. old!

Camel abuse! Why would anyone expect an animal that large to stay on that tiny platform? Like the camel knows it's a stage?

    December 10, 2010 at 10:34 pm |
  35. Emily

Wow, what a shot...that would have been interesting to be in the audience. Glad no one was hurt...there are usually people "protesting" that sort of an event, not a funeral. (animal rights groups, etc)

think that the current president needs to bring out all the amo he needs to ,, even if need pres clinton because no matter what he trys its going to be a battle for him as has been from beginning shame that he is trying but has no republican help unless they get something out of it

I think the deal making is just typical Washington. Many of us thought it would be different with Obama there.

Unbelievable protesting Elizabeth Edward’s funeral! This is a good demonstration of the sickness within certain areas of this country. Pretty scary!

    Great panel discussion!!

@BettyAnn-TX – iagree, i miss him too. Nobody in politics today can explain an issue as well as Bill C. can.

@heather-WA- yes, David G. does look good. And, as always, speaks on the issues very well too.

    "President Obama is so disappointing."
I wonder just how many people feel the way that you expressed?!

Obama's widely touted as a 'great communicator,' but as I've noted before, he delivers a good prepared speech w/ the aid of a teleprompter, but true communication goes beyond 'speechifying' – it's a 2-way process: message sent + message received. Obama sends his messages in a cerebral, legalistic, unemotional manner that many, if not most people don't relate to or understand, i.e., it's not received. Clinton's clearly the better communicator, as witness today's event. He speaks in a manner that makes the message easily understandable to the masses, to close the loop on the 2-way process; the message is both sent & received. (That said, however, I still don't like the deal or the way it was done, but that's another issue.)
