Clinton Back at the White House: Join the Live Chat

[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/02/liveblogfinal.copy.jpg]

A president and former president walk into the White House briefing room. No joke, you've never heard this one before. We'll show you the remarkable moment. Barack Obama and Bill Clinton walk in, but only Clinton stays, at his old podium, to make a powerful pitch for President Obama's policies. We've got the raw politics and tonight's other headlines.

Want more details on what else we're covering? <a href="http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/category/the-buzz/" target="_blank">Read EVENING BUZZ

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

All this deal making comes across as elitism to many of us out here.

Why don't the goverment make a law to protect funeral. Which is a private moment. Unless we are invited. Keep away at least 1 mile from the funeral from the viewing to the church to the grave. Unless you are real news organization.

I think Maria is correct. If taxes are raised on the middle class in January, they will never forget this and remember at the next election. I think something will happen before month-end. President Clinton does look much more comfortable at the podium. He has a good rapport with the press as well.

I think the reason why there is deal making now is because our president is sick of all the childish behavior going on from the republicans

@BettyAnn: I'm thinking that Obama and Clinton worked that exit of Obama's out ahead of time so that Clinton could be alone with them all to plead the case. Probably a very smart move. Obama is perfectly able to plead his own case but to have Clinton do it indicating his overwhelming support of Obama I think was a very smart move.

I hated Clinton when he was President, buy would trade Obama for him in a heartbeat.

Even if you don't like Clinton, he has a charm about him that Obama lacks.

I think it is a good idea that Obama is asking for some help from the former presidents to try and get everyone on the same page, anything would help right now!

Gergen is looking dressed to the T tonight! 😉

I loved the press conference with Bill Clinton!
He was very informative and, as usual, very chatty.
I wish all of the Presidents would be invited, at times, to speak.
Isn't there a saying that says something like..when nobody is happy, you know you have a good compromise.
Love David G.'s remarks as always.
Good panel to discuss this issue!

    December 10, 2010 at 10:20 pm |
  16. BettyAnn, Nacogdoches,TX

David Gergen is right. Bill Clinton makes a much better arguement. President Obama was rude to walk out saying his wife was waiting. unbelieveable! President Obama is so dissappointing.

Haven't the President and Bill Clinton met on a number of occasions? They seem to have developed a supportive relationship. I think it was a smart move on Obama's part and Clinton will always rise to the occasion.

as well as freedom of speech, there is also freedom of absorption – people can speak as they please, but people can also listen as they please too – that is what the channel button and the off switch are for

the idea of two opposing groups voicing freedom of speech on opposite sides to counterbalance each other – interesting take

There are some truly wacko "men of God" out there. Sickening I think they are mentally ill. They drank the kool-aid

The president should bring all former presidents on deck to help the american people. This is desperate time, partisanship is useless. I wish all pundits would go away and let republicans and democrats work for the good of the country.
By bringing president Clinton is also a little mischievious. It is making me smile . That certainly got Bernie Sander rant off the news.

Praying for someone's death in such a hateful way is not Christianity. But, you know, there are all kinds of crazy folks in this world and there are always some people willing to be "followers" of their perceived leader. Mr. Phelp's relationship with god doesn't seem to be bringing him much peace and joy.

@Helen, Im sure God has something for these people, if not, hopefully these people will see the error of their ways and stop what they are doing

I believe a former president put it rather well... "There ought to be limits to freedom."

They are right about the first amendment protection. Unfortunately, it does include people like Nazis and these fools. They twist the gospel to their own evil ends. They neglect the fact that there is a special place in hell for those who pervert the gospel and preach lies. That is what they have to look forward to.

The monsters of the Westboro Church are dangerous and vile. They should be carefully monitored! Horrible, hateful people!

I don't want to sound dramatic but I really wish God could come down and strikes this group with lighting. Sorry that is just how I feel. This group is hateful.

Shame on Fred Phelps for claiming to be a man of God. A man of God does not preach hate

I briefly looked the WBC site earlier today from an article I read on CNN stating they would be protesting Elizabeth Edwards' funeral, and was absolutely appalled at the rhetoric being spewed on this site. So incredibly judgmental...it brings to mind the Scripture that says "he who is without sin, cast the first stone". They are so self-righteous, it makes me ill. I agree Anderson that this needs to be brought up not to give them necessarily more attention, but to expose their shenanigans. Where is the love in this church?

Elizabeth Edwards was such a nice lady. Stop hating and show love and kindness.

Good evening Anderson & Team 360. TGIF!

    Hello, David, Isabel, Nichole, Nancy-OR, Megan, Emily, JoAnn-OH, Mike, Casey-CA, Heather-CA, Heather-WA, Samantha-TN, Nina, Sharon H., everyone.....TGIF!

I am so angered by this horrible hate group i just don't know what to say.
If they are allowed to picket their hate at Elizabeth Edwards' funeral tomorrow i will be enraged.
I am SICK to death of ALL fundamentalists who insist on forcing their beliefs on any of us and the terror tactics that generally follow.
I would really like to defeat this hate with love, but right now I am tired, weary, and frankly fed up with hate groups.
When i calm down, i will pray for them and for peace and love, but not today!

I disagree Ben and Susan, Please tell guest, Please repect our troops and Elizabeth Edwards!!!!!!! I hope they will not protest at EE's funeral!

    December 10, 2010 at 10:08 pm |
  40. Heather - Spokane, WA

Fred Phelps really needs to take a good look at what a Christian is and realize that he is not preaching God's words. These 'church' people came here and protested a month ago in front of a high school and they were met with more positive protesters protesting that they leave the city. That is pretty much the way to get these people to go away

    December 10, 2010 at 10:07 pm |
  41. Gloria, Brooklyn, NY

This is so sad for anyone who claim that they believe in God to express such hatred. God is love. God is not about hurting anyone, good or bad.

I'd just like to point out from Psalm 109 "They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship". Pardon me for failing to see any friendship come anywhere from Mr. Phelps.

Fred Phelps is a super nut job. Him and his protesters should be arrested. Geez~ Insane! Thy shall not judge!

Good evening Anderson and fellow bloggers. Sounds like very interesting topics. I am very angry about this group that plans to disrupt Elizabeth Edward's funeral. Some people should round them all up and take them for a scenic ride.
