The Birthers are Back: Join the Live Chat

[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/02/liveblogfinal.copy.jpg]

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected a case about President Obama's citizenship, but a Texas lawmaker isn't listening. He has a new bill based on birther doubts about where Mr. Obama was born. How does he reconcile his birther beliefs against the facts? We're keeping him honest. Plus, tonight's other headlines.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

this is interesting, but wouldn't information like this (about how a sting was set up) make potential terrorists even more careful? i always wonder about that

I used to have a great respect for John McCain before he unleashed Sarah Palin on us.

Don't ask don't tell survey questions were biased to favor repeal of don't ask don't tell. Don't believe me? Get a copy of the survey and review it! I took the survey, and STRONGLY OPPOSE repeal of don't ask don't tell. Yet if you look at the answers to the questions that were asked, you could see it either way. I thin that is the fact that should be presented!

What's scary is that even with their well documented flip floppiing on many issues and lack of evidence for some of their outrageous claims,McCain and that other guy from Texas still are in office....whats wrong with the voters in AZ and TX? We have to VOTE people!!!

Who, what, when, where, why and how is the fundamental foundation of journalism. Presenting opinions as facts is a vehicle for propoganda. The Willie Nelson/Larry King Live joke is a perfect example of source value.

whichever it was,,,an entrapment or a sting. It's great to hear that this young boy was intercepted and did not end up blowing up a group of innocent people. It's frightening to know that there are many loners out there who want to do nothing but harm to the people in our country.

"Anatomy of a Sting" is a great report by Randi. Mohamud sure sounds arrogant, doesn't he?

Anderson, it is a sad state of affairs that people like Mr. Berman are focusing on the issue of President Obama's birthplace. Last time I looked Hawaii was part of the United States. In a country where we are facing the serious issues. It is people like this that are trying to divide our country instead of unite it. I makes me wonder if Mr. Obama were white, and his father had been Christian if any of this would even be discussed. How will we ever get out of the mess we are in as nation if we don't come together as a nation and focus on what's important.

Barack Obama said he went to Pakistan in 1981
in his own words on camera. How can you say he did't. This reminds me of people in Arkansas saying Bill Clinton did not do anything with Monica after he admitted it. Blind Loyality.

Anderson, why do you keep giving these "Obama haters" air time.

I don't see anyone questioning John McCain's birth place. He was not born in the United States. He was born in The Panama Canal Zone. It was questioned at one point, but it is now as it should be, a non-issue.

people like Berman shouldnt be put on the national television....there are so embrassing and ignorant!!! If a "Texas lawmaker", doesnt believe the president was born here, then many americans should be checked out because it seems like some states like Hawaior maybe even Texas are issueing false birth certificates, what a dammy!!!

  17. Niki G., Georgia

It's truly shameful that such blistering ignorance and blatant bigotry is still, in this era, holding positions of authority and power in any state legislature. This old man embarrasses me–if you're reading this and you're in any way related to or know Leo, please see that he gets some medication and under the immediate supervision of a good adult care facility.
Leo, it is 2010 not 1960. Your ill-concieved efforts and baseless claims have failed this time and always will.
Anderson, outstanding job combating lies with the facts!

Why does the PoPo even bother to arrest Willie Nelson, he is one of those old heads who have been smoking all their lives back in the hippie days , it;s part of who he is ,it makes up Willie Nelson. leave him alone he's not bothering anyone, go catch those drug cartels killing up people.

WoW! What a shifty character... (Berman), looking off camera and fidgeting with his earpiece for some help as he flailed... never answering your questions and toting his own accomplishments... "i served my country"
and what does that got to do with the topic? why did this guy get airtime?

What about the real "facts" don't the birthers want to accept? They only use rumors by a blogger quoting un-verified,un-researched propaganda. Our country wasn't set up to run on propaganda.

Hi Anderson! I was so impressed by the way you respected Leo Berman although he was factually incorrect. It is sad to see a politician in the Texas State house be so racist towards our President. If Obama was caucasian there would be no question of his citizenship. Even though he was born in Hawaii and his birth certificate is on record people still doubt the legitimacy of his citizenship. He went through the same congressional process before reaching office as any other politician would and there is no shadow of a doubt that he has every right to hold his office. It is alarming to see the disrespect some people have towards our President who was chosen by the people for the people.

Does Willie Nelson know where his pot is from? Or is he helping to keep murderous drug cartels in business? They may be guilty of killing an American citizen. All the druggies out there should think about who they keep in business with their addictions. Cartels, the taliban, al queada, etc.

One additional comment. I was born in Pa. who did not want to give me a photocopy of my original birth certificate but a transcript only? I found out if someone requests a birth certificate (not knowing to even ask for a PHOTOCOPY OF THE ORIGINAL) they send out a short version but don't tell people they have three different versions of material they omit, and do not send out photocopies of originals but transcript only? I had to hire a lawyer to get a photocopy of mine with a court order. If Mr. Berman went to Hawaii, would they give him a photocopy of the original or even let him see it? I am curious. Obama IS a citizen., mom was.

This guy from Tx is just one of those people who will not accept anything other than what he wants, and, has no respect for the facts. I agree that he cannot answer direct questions; and, it is quite insulting to see him on a national news program deliberately misrepresenting the facts.

I am really saddened that such a "lawmaker" would be elected to office. If there was really any truth to this rumor, don't you think the republicans would have brought it to light during the election, come on. I am originally from the northeast, and living in Texas because of the job opportunities. But every time I see nonsense like this, I want to pack up and leave. I guess fact and reason can't dispel the lunacy of the gullable.
