A wonderful piece on the intellegence of dolphins.
Makes me wonder how smart we are since we insist on keeping them captive and forcing them to do tricks for our entertainment.
It even makes the slaughter of dolphins in Taiji Japan even more horrible.
If Randi Kaye or Anderson Cooper want to do something to help dolphins that is their follow up story. Not how smart dolphins are and how they can entertain us but how we treat a species with similar intellegence to ours.
We need to stop killing dolphins for food and we need to stop keeping them captive in swimming pools for our greedy entertainment needs.
yes, dolphins are extremely intelligent and very socially/emotionally complex as well. Does this not have implications as to whether or not it is ethical to force them to entertain humans for food?
Without a doubt I know these beings are more human than what most realize. They think, act and are very independant but love as a community and most honorably. I have spent time with several different dolphins in the wild and can tell you from personal experience they are more than fish, and dispensible property. One Dolphin actually taught me how to dive, much better than I could have on my own. Mothers and little ones share lovingly as they swim and play and learn/ teach. They invite us to know them, to know they trust us even though we have given no reason to trust. They are aware of dangers humans offer yet do not attack those who do them harm and stil invite us to know them. Seems they have a few lesson to teach us as we still need to learn how life of any kind should be honored and valued. Thank you for allowing me to share.
