Amazon Removes Pedophilla Books, Others Remain: Join the Live Chat

Tonight, profiting from pedophilia. After our report last night, Amazon.com finally pulled a controversial how-to book telling pedophiles what they can get away with. This morning, they pulled another pro-pedophilia book by the same author. But as we'll show you tonight, there are any number of similar books with content just as disturbing still being sold on their site.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

Regarding obesity, the biggest problem here is that our own federal government funds the industries that grow and create foods that are killing us. "Modified" foods are engineered in a way that makes us want to eat more and more and more.

The best way to curb childhood obesity (and all obesity for that matter) is to get people to eat whole foods–eliminate GMO soy, eliminate GMO corn, eat organic vegetables, free-range chicken and grass-fed beef. Get rid of the dairy and especially get rid of the sugar. Focus consumption of fruits to level one of the glycemic index and so on. I did these things (and more) and it has absolutely changed my life and my health.

I'm never hungry and I'll bet anyone that my healthcare costs will be trimmed dramatically as I age.

It all comes down to moderation, parents need to limit how many happy meals a child eats! That's all, it has nothing to do with the toys, half the time my girls do not even open the toy. An occasional happy meal is fine, but obesity is more than a one time trip to micky-d's!

The responsible parent makes sure that their kids eat healthy, but once and a while, there are times kids have to eat out, although it's not too healthy, I see nothing wrong with a meal such as this. The TOY in no way makes this choice for me, It is the parent that makes that decision, Not a TOY and not the Gov.

    @Nancy in Oregon,
You mean, think "logically"? It seems that logical thinking is not so logical after all! 😦
TOO bad that are a buzz-kill for the kids, just because things are not going their way, or they don't want to take responsibility!

@Melissa Collins, "Yes they do, But when ever they are exposed on issues like this they should be held accountable."

Remember when Kennedy tried to change the succession law in Massachusetts? That was being politically manipulative as well.

    Amazon, you stink!
DO you condone child porn and child abuse? You are deemed just as bad as pedophiles if you condone the sale of these types of books.
If someone purchases a book from Amazon and commits a pedophile crime, then you are an accomplice to that crime! Face it!! You may get sued for it someday...as any offender can claim they got the book from your site and claim that Amazon sold them the information.

Just wow. It's truly shocking and disgusting that this is even happening. It's only a pedophiles' meager attempt to hide behind the freedom of speech ploy just so they can gain some sympathy for their twisted ways of victimizing children. They are not "misunderstood" by the society, nor are they victims. The children are!

I do business with Amazon and I won't be as long as these books continue being sold. It's hard enough as is to keep our children safe and their selling books to teach people how to harm them! Disgusting!

  15. Tom Baker

There is no absolute right to publish. Much like freedom of speech does not mean you can scream FIRE in a theater.
A book advocating Pedophile is a book advocating the actions of a crime, and even how to deal with Police.
There is no reason why Amazon needs to have these books, there is no right to them, and censorship is partaken by the government, not a private company.

I am so disappointed to hear all of this about what Amazon sells. I have bought A LOT of products through Amazon over the years. It was my favorite "one-stop-shop" online. I did not know they were selling books encouraging and teaching crimes against children. I sent my e-mail into Amazon last night after watching the story on AC360. Now it looks like I will stop business with them for good, especially since they refuse to talk to the media; makes it look like they condone crimes against children.

I agree! I remember the Happy Meal when friends would have their Birthday Parties at McDonald's. Also, it was something that was a very rare 'treat'.

The subject on Pedophiles was very disturbing.
If Opra has had the ceo of Amazon on her program I am sure she would not approve these books and perhaps she can help to do something about this situation. Amazon needs to recieve all the publicty possible regarding the books on pedophiles they are allowing on their site. I hope all parents will protest them.

Good work reporting, Anderson...living overseas, getting 'live' news is only available at certain times of the day, and not always from the best sources. I'm up at 4am every morning to hear what is going on in the States...if you didn't report on the Amazon situation yesterday, we wouldn't have known and continued to support Amazon with $...I have since joined the boycott and now must really reconsider future purchasing at this company (if I do decide to shop there again)...grazie mille, ciao!

When I saw Mitch McConnell's mid term election speech, I was dumbfounded by what came out of his mouth, saying in effect the main agenda for the GOP was to not let Obama get reelected. What? That was the only thing on his mind – hadn't he heard the pleas of Americans in dire straights? I knew he was a political game player then. He needs to retire. He's lost touch with America. He lost credibility with me.

I am not at all surprised at Mitch McConnel's actions.
As stated in the panel discussion, it is not uncommon that our people in the armed forces are used a political "pawns".
Therefore, it is any wonder that the American people are so cynical of true belief in either party?
Shame on Mitch McConnel and the many other politicians who speak with "forked tongue".
@JoAnn-thank you and you are right about my heart.

Just got done with live chat to Amazon. They cited that they removed the one book..and refused to comment further about the other books. I explained that i would not continue with my orders until i knew that they were committed to doing the right thing on this.

Are you kidding me? Enough already. Our children are abused enough. Anyone who buys anything from Amazon.com should be ashamed of themselves.
Anyone related to someone at the head of that company should watch their back, or their kids. I am very serious, no amount of money can take away morals and the respect for human life, especially childrens.

I have asked all my friends on FB to boycott Amazon. The Pedophile story was absolutely disgusting and it is so sad that Amazon would stoop this low for money. Please get your books or products elsewhere. This really touched a nerve of mine and I don't even have children!!!!

I just emailed Amazon and told them I will no longer do business with them. I order many books and DVD's thru them but NO MORE. Thank you Anderson Cooper for standing up to this kind of disgusting book. And for pointing out the fact Amazon will not answer for selling the book. Stand up Amazon and show some courage! You wimps...and I live in Seattle.

Mr. Walsh hit it on the head. Pedophiles can only see their own very warped point of view, not the suffering of a child.
Should society give the green light, under the guise of "freedom of speech", to all people regardless of how obviously warped their thinking is? I think not.
Thank you Anderson Cooper. It is good to know that one hideous book has been pulled from Amazon.com.
Hopefully this is just the start!

    RE: Amazon.
I am incensed by this story. I shop Amazon and will stop using this company if they do not regulate themselves! Are you kidding me? This is like an altered universe that would consider this behavior acceptable. Truly disgusting and justification is not even up for discussion.
    Are you listening Amazon?

    November 11, 2010 at 10:28 pm |
  41. Loretta (Grandma)

    I won't shop with Amazon again,ever!
This guy needs to be tracked " No smoke without fire"!
These are our children for God's sake!!!
Is there no limit to what "sick minded" people can do under the 1st Amendment?! What about our children's rights??? If there isn't a law to protect our children against this type of madness then maybe it's time something was done about it. Change the law or amend the 1st amendment to protect out children.
Again, this can't be rationalized under the 1st amenment.

I am sad that Amazon is involved in sales of this material. I have been a customer for years. I am a victim of abuse since the age of three. It has took away my life and still continues to affect me. All I can say to you Anderson, is that I appreciate your efforts in whatever you do. I also say thank you everyday to John Walsh.

Has the lawyers for Amazon.com completely forgot that there are exceptions to the first amendment? Publishing pro-pedophilia books violates several exceptions:obscenity, child pornography, advocacy of use of force or violation of law. It sounds like perhaps Amazon.com's board of directors need to take a serious look at not just their products, but their own standards.

I sent a note to Amazon last night and have advised them tonight I will do no more business with them and will make sure my friends and family are aware of this.

Thank you for your continued work in bringing this to light. Hopefully, you and others will keep the pressure on until Amazon realizes they cannot retain customers by doing business in such a sleazy, maladjusted way. This is so sick.
