Anti-Gay Facebook Rant Fallout: Join the Live Chat

What he did shocked the nation. What Clint McCance will do tonight, which so many others don't in a situation like this, won't be easy. McCance, a school district vice-president, who posted very harsh words online about gay victims of bullying who take their own lives, talks only to 360°. Plus, tonight's other headlines.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

"I like to take a look at myself when I say something" – McCance . The thing is, he didn't actually "say" that. People will usually censor what 'they say'...what he posted seems like what he was 'thinking'.

Used the "wrong" language...a Major understatement.

It seems fairly obvious that he regrets "language" but not Intent.

It seems he still believes what he wrote, he just would have "worded" it differently??

This looks like another case of inappropriate use of the Internet. It is so easy to feel anonymous and make off-the cuff comments. I just do not understand why he said those things.

Shameful to hide behind religious doctrine to preach inhumanity.

He appears to have a change of heart. That's a start, and this is where it starts.

Although I am gay and am personally offended, I find it even more repulsive that a school official would insult any student at any time. That alone is enough to prove that this man should step down.

Clint McCance needs to eat more "crow" pie!

I am now 25, and I live in a smaller "conservative" town. I got taunted with anti-gay comments every day in school. I almost DID kill myself many times. Mr. McCance, I invite you to come stay at my home for 24 hours. walk in my shoes.

Sounds like someone is just slightly uncomfortable. So, why the change of attitude?

Seems like he's only trying to save his job by apologizing.

He must have thought the whole world (his world) thought the same. That's how ignorance perpetuates.

Good for you Anderson. I am glad you are challenging him by quoting his horrible use of verbiage. Now he is grappling...

Hi Anderson. Pam from Arkansas here. Please ask your guest what advanced degrees, if any, he has, or other in depth studies, he is basing his beliefs on.

This guy can not be believed. He loves his wife and kids, but wrote he would disown them if they were gay.

Why is he now apologizing? This is a very quick turn around.

He’s back peddling and not doing a good job of it. He was wrong and needs to say it. “I was WRONG!” And then resign for the school board.

I was completely disgusted by McCance's offensive, disturbing facebook posts. How is someone who holds these perverse beliefs and so irrationally hateful allowed to be in a position to influence children?

I do not believe a word this man says. He knew exactly what he was saying. He is just apologizing because he got caught and he has a bad name on him now

Good evening Anderson & Team 360.
    ,
Hello, David, Isabel, Nichole, Nancy, Megan, Emily, JoAnn, Mike, Casey, everyone.

I can't believe what i am hearing from this school official?!

I think the change of heart is from fear of retaliation and loss of reputation and job.

He could probably take this terrible thing he's done and visit schools and educate other bullies. He can redeem himself.

    October 28, 2010 at 10:06 pm |
  30. Catherine La Mirada,CA

Good evening all. I can't believe how ignorant and heartless this school board member is. It's terrible for him to hide behind the Bible and his "Christian beliefs" to spew such hatred.

Clint McCance is now on "damage" control! lol

Since he's elected, they can't fire him, but he has the option to resign. I hope he does.

Good evening Anderson and everyone. The Florida story is probably true but doesn't anyone realize how many people have already voted in Florida? Early voting is big down here. I can't believe this Clint guy would come on.

Its sad that an official like this man cannot be removed for bullying, only for absenteeism

    October 28, 2010 at 10:04 pm |
  35. Kali Skinner

I am also very glad that this issue went national. McCance is a big bully, and deserves the Karma he's getting.

What Clint McCance (a district vice-president) posted is unspeakable... I can't believe that he was not asked to resign.

What really jumped out at me was what he said about disowning his kids if they were gay. How do your kids feel to know that their father's love is limited? Personally, I would be crushed. Parents are meant to love unconditionally. Parents who would hate their kids so easily probably shouldn't be parents.

    October 28, 2010 at 10:03 pm |
  38. Nina

Clint McCance is absolutely outrageous. What an idiot. His kids will end up bigots!!

I can't be watching because I am at work, but I just wanted everyone to know that I am a 20 year old straight female from Bald Knob, Arkansas, and I am absolutely disgusted by McCance's comments. Love is love, no matter what. And encouraging gay kids to kill themselves isn't Christlike. At all.

Mr. McCance, what are your feelings toward Jewish, Catholic, Black, Brown students? Are they the same as you feel towards LGBTQ sutdents?
