Whitman's husband says it's 'possible' he saw Social Security letter

Alan Duke

Los Angeles, California (CNN) - The husband of Meg Whitman, California's Republican nominee for governor, said "it was possible" he saw a 2003 letter that questioned his housekeeper's Social Security number, but he insisted it did not make him suspect she was an undocumented worker.

Dr. Griffith Harsh's acknowledgment came several hours after he stood next to Whitman as she told reporters neither of them saw the letter.

The reversal followed lawyer Gloria Allred's release of a letter with a note to the housekeeper, which she said was Harsh's handwriting.

Allred called it "the smoking gun or smoking document" that showed the couple knew their housekeeper for nine years, Nicky Diaz Santillan, was working illegally in the United States.

Whitman knew this woman was illegal because she purposely sought out someone who didn't speak English or very little and who are they most of the time, illegals.

I have lost all respect for Gloria Alred. She has connections with Brown and donated money to his campaign. The maid in this case was illegal but provided credentials...in fact whitman paid all taxes to her. When she received a letter about employee, the letter didn't state she was illegal but that if she was, she couldn't fire her.

Alred has no charges because they are frivolous. The maid made $23.00/hr which many Americans would treasure. I hope Americans are able to see through this facade of trying to put Whitman at a disadvantage while lying.

Meg Whitman is not only a lieing hypocrite, she is aLSO A CRIMINAL. I just saw what being a billionaire can get you if you need a little help from your friends. Your Tom Foreman and his "truth meter" gave the accusations against Meg Whitman a " tall tale " assessment. Meg campaigned on harsh punishment for those employers who hired illegal immigrants, so she should follow the same fate as those she so boisterously railed against. Quit the race Meg !!!

You would think as wealthy as Ms. Whitman is she would have made a point of checking to see if this woman was here legally or not before she hired her. She wants the job of running California yet she can't even hire her own housekeeper without making a huge error.

There's no case here. It's purely political. That maid used a fake SSN and working permit. She knew the SSA would sooner or later write the Whitmans about that. So, she waited for that letter and pounced on it. Maybe, there were several letters. But, she always got it. She had access to the mail. Look at her crying crocodile tears. The reason why she is now clinging to the opposition is to get money. She cannot find another job as a maid for $23 an hour. Too many Nicky's using others' SSN's not only her. Her employment agency should be sacked. Not the Whitmans.
