Here are some of them:

2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

Forgot to mention that as a Michigan citizen, I'm not happy about paying Shirvell's salary with my tax money. Afterall, isn't the job of the Attorney General's office to help people, not give them cause to live in fear.

I agree with Dana Loesch Sarah Palin shld acknowledge a good fact checking report esp when such a report is presented. I didn't catch the full tweet though.

That's a very eloquent verse–devoting yourself to your wife as Christ devoted himself to the church.

Grayson is making hay exactly Anderson.

Roland is right if there's a write in provision in Alaska Lisa Murkowski has every right to run. That is the very definition of taking her case to the people.

First Amendment doesn't allow you to be abusive and intimidating and threatening. This guy is using this like a weapon, it borders on it being a hate crime. I know this guy would not be able to get away with this kind of stuff in Canada. It is sad to see the U.S.A. made to look like a country that isn't so welcoming of all kinds of people regardless of their life style.

@Lindy I totally agree wiht you that our Governor should ask for immediate resignations.

    Make them resign
    Why still pay them?

    @ Kevin E.

The hate crimes law is federal, so it applies nationally.

Odd that Shirvell screams Radical homophobic ideals while he (to some) spouts radical Christian ideals

No offense but its the flip side of the same coin.

when given the choice, why do some of us inflict pain instead of extending comfort and compassion?

i challenge everyone here on the blog tonight to engage in one random act of kindness during the next 24 hours.

Yes, he should be fired. Not for violating free speech, but for harassing someone. I think that
Chris should immediately file a restraining order to start the process. This on the heels three teen suicide cases over being harassed because of sexual orientation is exactly why we can not stand for intolerance against any citizens personal choices. I am sure he would be fired if it involved race, or harassment of a woman.

I just emailed the Michigan AG.

"Without a doubt, the choice to KEEP Mr. Shirvell on staff within your office is disgraceful to the State of Michigan and the United States of America. I am a Civil Service employee in New York State. It is employees like this, who continue to give government employees "a bad name".

I hope that the constituents in your State take immediate action against your office, in whatever way they can. The victim, Mr. Armstrong, should file a complaint with your office, regarding your office. Even your Governor believes he should be fired.

Thank goodness for CNN and Anderson Cooper for KEEPING YOU HONEST."

@Brenda, "I am so sick and tired of Sarah Palin attacking the media. Why do people listen to this woman?"

I don't like Palin, but both sides attack the media. It is not exclusive to Palin or the Republicans. Obama just attacked Fox in his Rolling Stone interview. No matter which side you agree with, they both have the same right to complain.

Someone should file a state bar grievance against Shirvell.

Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct, Rule 6.5 Professional Conduct
A lawyer is an officer of the court who has sworn to uphold the federal and state constitutions, to proceed only by means that are truthful and honorable, and to avoid offensive personality. It follows that such a professional must treat clients and third persons with courtesy and respect."

Kevin I'm with you in being thankful our governor is bothered by this situation. But it is my understanding that she does have the authority to fire the assitant AG and call for the resignation of Mike Cox.

2010 many conservatives don’t know the meaning of Nazi, conservatism and free speech

In the name of free speech they called every one Nazi if they don’t agree with them

The worst part is Michigan wouldn't hesitate to arrest a private citizen who was stalking Mr. Shirvell.

I ahve been working for 7 years to get an anti-bullying bill passed but it has been blocked by some shirvell types in the legislature

This person (Asst. AG) should have been fired. Also the AG should step down for not acting on this type of behavior, I think both have deep mental problems.

Everyone makes mistakes. Hope Sarah Palin does watch your show once in a while. Maybe she can pick up some points on how to better check the facts in some of her public speeches.

He should be held to the "legal" standard. Hopefully, judicial precedent covers this type of behavior.
On a side note, please understand that this man's views are NOT representative of the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is unfortunate that his hate-filled rhetoric is being linked to Christianity. I'm a Christian, and I assure that Jesus Christ emphasized a message of love; not HATE.

Unforgettably, cyberbullying is not a new phenomenon....why is there not laws on the books against it as of yet?
I really find that mindboggling that it's taking so long for the justice system to move on this.

Theirs a difference with Grayson, he does interviews AC. Sarah Palin fly's around making millions of $'s dividing the the Nation and answers to no-one. She give's no interviews yet is considered a leader in the Republican party! How about calling her out for the fraud that she is ?

I am the second Canadian Anderson fan commenting tonight. I find Andrew Shrivell's behavior SHOCKING, as most reasonable free-thinking and empathetic people would. Heck, I am going to go out on a limb here and suppose that there are people who hold anti-gay sentiments who would find this to be completely out of line.

Does Michigan have hate-crime laws? There is such a need!

Roland is correct. Only R's could vote and Lisa Murkowski has a ton of Independent & Democratic support here. That lady is wrong. He didn't win overwhelmingly; he won by 1% only.

    September 30, 2010 at 10:25 pm |

The other problem is that cyberbullying is THE biggest concern in our schools and MI's AG basically condened it but allowing Shirvell to stay on staff.

personally i think that whenever someone extracts and plays a portion of a video clip there should be a [legal] requirement to provide a link to the source of the clip.

  41. Brad from Michigan

The Attorney General's Office used to be beyond reproach. Just the mentioning the AG's office would result in businesses resolving unfair treatment of consumers. For the last 8 years, the office has been used for political purposes. Comsumer complaints are ignored. That never happened before. His upcoming replacement is a career politician with less experience and more political bias that Mr. Cox.

@Casey Jones – Palm Springs, CA, "you just made me wonder how "we" can control anybody who wants to write their own blog about ANY subject, considering the lack of physical confrontation."

This case has gone way past the talking stage if Shirvell is following Armstrong around and harassing his family, but you make a good point. The slippery slope is that if the law starts controlling speech on the Internet they would probably have to close Face Book and Twitter to begin with and we might not be writing on this blog right now.

    September 30, 2010 at 10:24 pm |
  44. Emily

    @David, Indiana
"Maybe suspension while the matter is under review by the attorney general or other non court duties."
Shirvell has not denied any of the allegations that are against him...what do you think that they need to investigate?

Anybody could chop anybody up (no pun intended) editing things said out of context, photographs montaged together, etc. Yikes. No integrity in political campaigns anymore. No wonder we are all disenchanted with politician right now. If they can make that kind of ad, what would they do if they got into office. Think about it.
