[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/02/liveblogfinal.copy.jpg]

Tonight on 360, more on the strange case fo the Michigan Assistant Attorney General targeting a gay University of Michigan student. Also, Dr. Phil joins us to talk about cyberbullying and the Rutgers student who committed suicide this week after his roommate streamed live video online of him kissing another boy. And an update to our Dr. Detectives series. 360 MD Sanjay Gupta joins us along with patient Sally Massagee. That and more on AC360° tonight at 10pm ET.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

It sounds like the current Attorney General just wanted to retire in peace. Didn't he say that he only has three more months or was I hearing things?

I find it horrific that a person's sexuality is so offensive to someone that a symbol which is equated with the killing of millions such as the Nazi swastika is used to label another group. Hate is hate and it is unacceptable to me.

Thanks to Andersons show we are hearing a lot more about Mr Shervell and his deviant behavior on our local news. I'm sure he won't have his job for very much longer.

"Mr. Shirvill needs a psychiatric evaluation."

I agree with you. Sounds like Mr. Cox wants to send him too using the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Seems that Mr. Cox is walking on eggshells on handling this situation.

    @Heather,
one has to wonder if there is not more to this story...

I completely agree as anyone else would have been placed immediately on administrative hold pending a full investigation

I'm Jamaican and even here in Jamaica where were are percieved to be homophobic, This is wrong, no matter which way you look at it. He should be fired with immediate effect.

I still don't understand how a State Official can get away with harassing a person and their family & friends...standing outside of their house videotaping them, etc.
    Emily,
Most cases are most very important to say stop bullies on internet or blog..... If you stalker against anyone includng gays or spying in the house, we won't accept that cyberbully at all!!!!!

@Emily-'one has to wonder if there is not more to this story...'

I think there is a whole lot more that everyone doesn't know......

  13. Casey Jones - Palm Springs, CA

@Heather......there is much more having to do with personal feelings than has been reported at this point. I can guaranty you that.

    September 30, 2010 at 10:07 pm |
  14. Sara Hailstone, MA

Absolutely he should be fired! Anyone utilizing Nazi propaganda in order to slander homosexuality is beyond unethical. This should not be taken lightly.

Chris' sexual orientation is not this politician's business nor anyone elses!

"The state should stay out of the peoples' bedrooms!!!!!"

  15. Rusk

This is tantamount to hate crime. He should be fired!!!

    September 30, 2010 at 10:07 pm |
  16. Chris W

Legally he can't, but from an ethical and moral stand point he should be let go.

No person in a government even local should be able to spew the foul and descrimatory things this man is saying. I say Anderson hit it on the head, when he told him " he was obsessed with a homosexual".

  17. Gloria, Brooklyn, NY

His boss is probably pushing him to do this.

Big thanks to you Anderson and your staff for continuing to put awareness on stalking/bullying!

Good evening Anderson & Team 360.

Hi, David, Nichole, Nancy, Emily, Megan, JoAnn, Mike, Casey, everyone.

I so disagree that this assist. ag cannot be reprimanded or fired for his behavior.

  20. Kenya

If Mr. Cox is embarassed for Shirvell it should only make sense that he ought to feel embarassed for himself too by keeping this hateful guy as his assistant!

    September 30, 2010 at 10:06 pm |
  21. Nina

This is ridiculous. Any other government employee would have been placed on administrative hold pending a full investigation.

    September 30, 2010 at 10:06 pm |
  22. jennifer

Should be fired immediately. His boss should be fired too for bad judgment in making the 1st amendment justification.

    September 30, 2010 at 10:06 pm |
  23. Amber

Absolutely, he should be fired. It's fine to have personal opinions, but attacking someone this openly and publicly is ridiculous as well as shameful and possibly even dangerous. By doing this, he has already forfeited his respect from the people of Michigan, as well as his respect in the workplace.

    September 30, 2010 at 10:06 pm |
  24. Heather - Spokane, WA

I heard that Chris Armstrong is getting a restraining order against Shirvall so then Mr. Cox will be able to do something

    September 30, 2010 at 10:06 pm |
  25. Gloria, Brooklyn, NY

His boss sounds like he is all for it.

    September 30, 2010 at 10:05 pm |

I'd like to know if any national GLBT organizations have weighed-in on this? Has there been any media coverage outside of 360?

Good evening Anderson and everyone. Well, you said it Anderson "if he really wanted to" (fire him). He doesn't want to. It's just so weird and Mr. Shervell doesn't come across as someone who is a professional attorney.

    September 30, 2010 at 10:05 pm |
  29. Gloria, Brooklyn, NY

Wow! He should give an awareness to himself.

    September 30, 2010 at 10:05 pm |
  30. Nina

Excellent question Anderson. Oh Cox, please!!! What about the MOU???

    September 30, 2010 at 10:05 pm |
  31. Cessy - Chicago

Shrivell: " I'm not the first person to criticized Chris Armstrong..."

sure...but you're probably the first person who stalked him

    September 30, 2010 at 10:04 pm |
  32. Casey Jones - Palm Springs, CA

Wow. 360 is not about to let this story go. Well......good for you and "thanks."

    September 30, 2010 at 10:04 pm |
  33. Libby

Why does Shirvell keep calling his behavior a political campaign?

    September 30, 2010 at 10:04 pm |
  34. Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA

I don't believe this Andrew Shrivell targeted Chris Armstrong who is gay posted "resign" his blog! Shame on Andrew!!!!

    Good evening Anderson and everyone.
Glad to hear Mr. Shirvell is banned from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. Whether he gets fired or not, he at a minimum should be reprimanded. I feel his actions are unbecoming a public official. Hopefully, the news reports will set in action something.

  39. Libby

    Evening 360 bloggers! 😀

    September 30, 2010 at 10:02 pm |
  40. Nina

All government employees are under more scrutiny as we all must sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which trumps freedom of speech and any amendment. Shirvell should be immediately released on administrative hold until a full investigation is completed.

As a Canadian, I find myself in awe and disbelief that this individual has not been fired already. In British Columbia, we have hate-crime legislation; a criminal offense. And what this individual is doing certainly qualifies as the promotion of hatred. He would have have been fired and denounced from any political party long ago. Yes, people are free to say what they want. But when it comes to espousing hatred and fear – that is crossing the line. When you combine this with the obsessive quality such as stalking the student at his house – there is something psychologically wrong. This man is dangerous.
