Evening Buzz: GOP edge in November?

Maureen Miller

With the midterm elections fast-approaching, tonight we kick-off a new series of reports that take you inside the campaigns. You’ll meet the candidates in an up close and behind-the-scenes way that shows the emotions and events that make or break political careers.

Our first up close report takes you along on Rep. Michele Bachmann's reelection campaign. 360's Gary Tuchman caught up with her at the Minnesota State Fair. Bachmann has served Minnesota since 2006 as a champion of conservative values. That's a far cry from the launch of her political career as a volunteer for Jimmy Carter's 1976 presidential campaign.

And, consider this whopping price tag: A projected $3 billion dollars will be spent nationwide on campaign ads this year. That would set a new record. Tonight Tom Foreman will show you some of the wackiest politics ads hitting the airwaves.

We also have new CNN / Opinion Research polling that shows that people hate Democrats and Republicans equally. But, interestingly, the same polling also shows the GOP edging out Democrats come November. We'll have the raw politics.

We're also tracking Tropical Storm Hermine, which is currently about 80 miles south of Brownsville, Texas. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. We'll show you where it’s headed.

Plus, a scary sight in a river. Bullhead sharks have been caught by fishermen along a famous waterway. The killers can survive in fresh water. We'll tell you where they are on the prowl and show you the photo proof.

See you at 10 p.m. ET for these stories and much more.

Here's my story. worked all my life as a waitress, educated bachelors history/philosophy. Disabled, income 777 per month. I smoke. NY state taxes on cigarettes pay over 9.00 a pack. when does it stop. when does the corruption/thievery/greed stop. when do all (politicians) have enough. they all serve themselves. example our congressman, mike arcuri (no relation) has state contracts/ rents his buildings to ny state police, funds non profits his ex wife runs etc etc. Roann Destito, legislator, just got a lucrative contract with turning stone casino -her company provides liquor to the casino -conflict of interest.. tip of iceberg and we americans are SICK of it SICK of it. We are taking back our country and Godforbid the people we elect this time try this nonsense, then it will be time for a revolution.
