Nepotism: It's a difficult act to juggle:
I did not know distributing scholarships to family member was unethical? Huh? I am sure the people of the people of Texas did not know they elected a magician either. You know, someone who takes the rules and produces a really good bait and switch out of it for YEARS- Now that is magic!
Reading the rules, understanding the legislation in which you are sworn to uphold is a job requirement. Maybe the Congresswoman is the one in need of those scholarships because reading truly is fundamental.
Good for you Anderson. What? She is pleading stupidity? I guess that doesn't prohibit you from being a Representative. And the records are "missing"? Sheesh.
This woman is obviously incompetent, how did she get that job?

How can Rep. Johnson not know the rules. It seems like another case of taking whats not yours and just hoping that you won't get caught.
I'm sure Rep. Johnson is not the only one in high positions like hers dishing out to friends and family members. Though her reasons were shallow it's a good thing Ms. Eddie has acknowledged her fault and apologized.

The kids she gave the scholarships to knew that they knew her! Didn't they or their parents read the rules?
Sometimes officials are misinformed by in-house counsel. They do not always read the rules. However, it seems obvious that grant monies should not be awarded to family members. If she is that naive, doesn't this make you wonder about this individuals' decision-making skills?
How can you not be aware of the rules when you are the one who is enforcing them?

Sorry to be late. Hurricane Earl is now downgraded to a category 2 storm. That comes as a surprise given how powerful it was on wednesday, but is the projected forecast.
I think it's good for the tourists to reschedule. Many might just postponing though I get the impression from an article on CNN.com
How could that women not know? How could she possibly claim ignorance of her wrong doing and can possibly be qualified for her job?
Not only did Johnson lie, but the kids lied when they signed the scholarship papers. Isn't that illegal?

2.5 GPA is pretty low.
She did that for years & gave out 23 scholarships; not one or two.
Also, if it's not okay with many businesses, why would it be different here?
Of course no one believes her story, she has been doing it for five years and has been giving them to her relatives for those five years!
Rep. Johnson doesn't think it's a scandal??? It is. And she's a liar and unethical. She should resign.
Even if it wasn't against the rules, common sense says you don't give scholarships to relatives.
