[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/02/liveblogfinal.copy.jpg]

We're following breaking news. Was it a practice run to blow up a U.S. jetliner? Bottles of liquid with watches and cell phones attached, inside checked luggage on a flight out of Chicago. Two men are in custody in the Netherlands. We'll have the latest and tonight's other news.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

Are terrorists able to get into the country thru our southern borders with Mexico?

I hope coverage of the congresswoman's nepotism doesn't stall at just "Did she know or didn't she?". It is obvious, to any sane person who heard the details, that she did know what she was doing. So let's stay focused CNN, Anderson, on the road to her reprimand, whether it be lawsuits, and/or criminal investigation, arrest, trial, and conviction. Please don't get hung up in the politicism of race, the CBC, or any other unrelated topic.

He/They bought 2 tickets on different airlines at the same time.
They had 2setsof luggage; one for each airline purchase. They only thing they had to make sure – both airlines in same corridor. It was a test run.

Glenn Beck: "This is a moment that I think we 'reclaim' the civil-rights movement." The we to which Glenn Beck belongs is the we that said no, the we that cried "socialism!" "communism!" "tyranny!" whenever black people and their allies cried freedom.

Glen Beck sounded like he was rallying for Obama. Seems like the same message.

Isn't there input or dissemination of info on these scholarships from and to the public schools, actually all schools in the district?

Why was al soofi stopped for the obviously suspicious items in his luggage? When were these items discovered?

I think that mock runs are being done everyday by terrorists that are already here in our country. I believe that there have been too many attempts that have failed and its only a matter of time before some nutjob succeeds. I hope and pray that never happens.

Regarding CBCF. This issue is trivial. Examine the records of the Ford Foundation, Carnegie Foundation and others and I'll bet you a BBQ rib dinner, that there are discrepencies found within those institutions as well.

I hope that this case will allow each if those "weaknesses" to be addressed to enhance safety, rather than instigate the usual round of the "blame game" for political purposes.

@ Casey – You are not questioned on over stay when you are exiting the country! If you return back, thats when you get questioned and probably be deported.

There is category 4 Hurricane Headed for the Atlantic Seaboard, What could be a dry run by terrorist to blow up an airplane by terrorist, and the lead story is about a congesswoman in Texas who gave scholarship money to her relatives? Are you kidding me? IIf she did she should be exposed and punished by the voters but how is this the lead story today?.....I guess CNN has bought into Fox Playbook....Acorn, the NAACP [Shirley Sherrod], and I guess the Congressional Black Caucus is next...Go for it CNN...try to legitmize yourself to white folks that you are not easy on Black Institutions...stoking white resentment....you have drunk the Kool-Aid..Go back on vacation Anderson.

If someone overstays their Visa, wouldn't they be stopped and questioned on they way out of the country? Isn't overstaying a reason to be suspicious?

    August 30, 2010 at 10:22 pm |
  31. aliou, FL

I don't know about the terrorists but aren't we becoming paranoi? empty bottle, watch, cellphones, are usual things traders and trafficers use as allowances as they travel around the world. These are small items to pay their way in fast trades at destination.

We will need more details and I am hoping that DHS will jump all over this unlike the last time with the somalian bomber.

I guess this situation offers more questions at this time than the answers.

Remember all that holier then thou accusiation about security outside the US during the "panty bomber" incident?.
No doubt those voices will use this case to throw dirt at the Obama administration.

Good evening Anderson, Isabel, Emily, Starr, Megan, Sree, Nicole, everyone.

Yes, definitely a conflict of interest. Family members can't be applying for those scholarships. This includes family of staff also? I imagine it does. How are these CBC scholarships published, posted, or made known to the public in other CBC members districts. How is this handled for any other congressional group that awards scholarships? Isn't their input from the public schools on this.

Even so there is more to learn from the congresswoman.

  39. Nicole The Netherlands

    Hi Everyone! Good Evening
Just joining you to bring the Dutch news on the Amsterdam dry run.. There is no news! Searched all dutch online papers; they are all quoting U.S. media. The arrest was made in demand of the U.S. that's what they all report.
Good isn't it, that Anderson and the 360 team are gonna tell me in a minute what happened just a few miles from where I am.. 😉
(but it is 4 am here..)

Are we going to start investigating all our scholarship boards or just some of them?
This is a country where everything depends on who you know, not what you know!!!!!
Are we going to start investigating anyone who has hired a friend, a borther, son/daughter, cousin?

    August 30, 2010 at 10:19 pm |
  42. Emily

How could she give away 23 scholarships in a 4 yr period (?) and not know the rules?! It would be bad enough if it happened even once, as she should 'know the rules', yet to do that Twenty-Three Times....
I'm not buying what she's selling...

    August 30, 2010 at 10:18 pm |

It seems the corruption is at all levels including the CBC

Let's be real here. She's probably not the only politician that's given out a scholarship to a family member. She just got caught.

    August 30, 2010 at 10:16 pm |
  46. Gina

It would go a long way for the CBC to immediately hire an outside agency to investigate the polices and practices.

  47. Catherine La Mirada,CA

Anderson is right; it is about trust. Sadly, she could have helped kids with a desire to go to school and limited funds.

The contraband on the plane school is scary.

I think I've heard all I need to about Glenn Beck and his revival meeting.

    August 30, 2010 at 10:16 pm |
  48. Rudy -Phoenix, AZ

My question is why didn't the authorities in Chicago talk to the two men before they boarded the plane. TSA obviously searched the bags before the plane took off. I don't think anyone on the flight would have been upset if the plane was delayed because they were questioning the men. It seems like proper procedure wasn't followed through here.
