President Obama and his family head to Martha's Vineyard on Friday for a weeklong vacation, but don't expect it to be without controversy.

It will be the president's second time on the island off the coast of Massachusetts. In 2009, Obama spent time golfing and hanging out with family and friends.

Vacations are often considered political low-hanging fruit: Zing a president or first lady anytime they go away for some rest and relaxation.

Critics have asked: Why did the Obamas go to Maine instead of the Gulf Coast as Obama had encouraged Americans to help bolster tourism there? Once in the Gulf, why only for 27 hours? Who footed the bill for Michelle Obama's glitzy trip to Spain?

I think lots of people wonder why the pres didn't stay in the Gulf on vacation since his point to Americans was "come on in the water is fine." Just some more spin. The Obamas knew full well it was a forced photo op and then off to have some real fun at Martha's Vineyard.

No one questioned Bush when he traveled, he spent more time in texas than in the whitehouse.

I'm a very upset American who doesn't even feel proud to be here. Frankly, I feel like America is becoming the dog and pony show of the world. It isn't the fact the Obama's are taking a vacation, it is the principle of the matter. Our Country is falling apart and he is enjoying the life of luxury while we are unemployed! This is SICK!

If you can't beat them join them. Your family deserve the same, not criticism.

to the obama's: you take as many vacations as you want, as long as you get your work done first.

I, personally, want a well rested, happy, family unit running my country. Enjoy each other and the great outdoors.

Must be nice. They can later write a book about their travels and make additional millions...

The President will serve us better by having some free time to get away from all the problems. Other presidents have done this. As far as Michelle, I believe it when she went in comfort for a friend...of course this did not get much headline news, only the complaints did. The article went on to say that Laura Bush took trips and did not always inform her staff...so I just know that complainers are just complainers...and go on with my thinking that it is okay for the President to take trips to relax and refreshen his mind.

Any vacation President Obama takes is well deserved.

Who is checking into vacations the CEOs of the Corporations and Institutions we bailed out take on our money?
Now that would be something to scream about.

Studies have shown that those with stressful jobs such as being a president should always balance work with leisure activities. As we all know one that takes time to relax can produce better results as they are balanced within all aspects of life. Excerise, eating well and being with those that love you and want you around is also good as well. I mean the man is constantly being critized and being measured in sometimes very negative ways so why shouldn't he able to relax with Michelle and the kids afterall the kids will shortly be going back to school. America needs to learn that children need family time as well. I mean sitting and playing play station is not healthy all the time. Going outside, to the parks and even a summer camp is good too. I understand that not every family may be able to afford a camp, however the local parks are a great place for children to also spend time and its free.

Mrs Obama paid for a lot her Spain trip but heard the airplane to get there was $11,500.00 an hour. Tax payer paid $----? Mrs. Obama paid $----? Obama is making a good salary as an executive and President of the US but how much for all these vacations is the tax payer spending total thus far ? In the middle of the worst recession since the Great Depression ? One last vacation before the kids get back to school and have fun.

It is not that I don;t understand that Mr. Obama is going to Martha's Vineyard rather than to the Gulf as he has lectured all us little people to do; it is that I don't understand why he is going on another vacation at all. When does the man actually work at his job? He opines that people should not make too much money although he likes to live well, he apologizes to the world about the the perceived "evils of his own (/) country, he campaigns, and he plays basketball and works out – but he doesn't seem to work. He seems perfectly happy to dole and live off of other people's money because he has no sense of how to work for his own.

President Obama needs to get him a get away place like the previous Presidents have had, then there would be no comments about his time away from the White House. There he would have a place to rest & relax, plus a place to have the press when needed like last Christmas when the attempt of the bombing on the plane happened,
it took him over a week to respond, because he was on vacation &
could not or did not respond in a timely manner.
Just an example President George W. Bush had his ranch when anything happened he would call a press conference as the event
occured, not waiting for a week, but then it takes Obama a week or
longer to make a statement about anything.
