We're following breaking news. Dr. Laura Schlessinger is ending her radio show, in a cloud of a racially-charged controversy. Hear what she told Larry King just moment ago. Plus, two reports on the oil still lingering in the Gulf of Mexico raising some chilling possibilities and more.

Here are some of them:
1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

I wonder what the solution is....how do you truly 'get rid of' the oil? You don't ship it out to space. What do you do, truly? Does anyone here know?
I don't know who Admiral Allen is taking his orders from but everything that has come from him has been hugely optimistic in BP's favor. It's not surprising to hear more of the same.
The US seems so incredibly sensitive to what poeple say. That seems so oppressive. How can the US critisize other countries for controlling freedom of expression?
I wasn't surprised to hear that most of the oil is at the bottom of the ocean. In fact (for 8 weeks) us bloggers all said that. It was just strange to hear that two weeks ago that the oil just "disappeared". Didn't believe it for a second.
Much ado over Schlesinger's use of the "N" word and she is rightfully called on it. What is missing is any comment re her condescending and disrespectful tone. Would she have used that attitude with others?
I see the issue with Dr. Laura is that it's her way or the highway. What a shame that a professional therapist doesn't actually know how to listen and what a disservice to anyone who wants to actually be heard. Ah, maybe she is being treated by others the same way she has been treating others.
I agree with Dr Laura, I have heard the Hip Hop music that refers to that particular 'racial' term. Furthermore I have heard African American's refer to each other with this term. What I would respond to is the need to jump on the Racism bandwagon every time, give someone a break!
the government lied....surprise surprize
As a person of color (non-African), I can say that I was offended by Dr. Laura's comments. She seemed to provoke the conversation rather than counseling the (more) reasonable caller. Then she got snippy when the caller experessed discomfort. No, it's time for Dr. Laura to go. That kind of insensitivity is not befitting an on-air professional counselor.
Dr. Laura had a well written apology. When she read the apology out loud, I thought her tone and the timing of particular words, did not portray remorse.
Wow, she really came across as bitter rather than remorseful. So she is tired of being chastised for insulting people? And the listening audience is supposed to do what–pamper her because she is now the one who is insulted? Get real!
Since when can we not speak our mind, i was listening live that day and didn't think much of it, this has been blown WAY out of proportion. Leave it up to the NAACP to make a huge deal out of something that's not that big of a deal. Besides why do all the comics say it and its socially acceptable, she was just making a point.
The government should put in place a plan for monitoring the health of adults and babies born in the gulf area for the next five years at least. No one will convince me that this spill is not affecting the health of locals without such a plan.
Dr. Laura was wrong as two left feet.
So far as the oil on the gulf coast:
there is no way that much oil just disappeared.
Good evening John Roberts nice to see you. Good evening Isabel, Emily, Starr, Megan, Sree, Nicole, good evening everyone.
Yes is if people are offended by Dr. Laura's comments they should say something about that. Why though is Dr. Laura not renewing her contract? The company she works for is not renewing her contract?
You know, if people would just quit thinking in terms of " a black man vs. a white man" think how much better things would be. A person is a person is a person. Forget the color of the skin....period.
Of course, you can have rappers and comedians use the N word and most people just take it for what it is in those media, but to broadcast and interact live on the air in such a manner, begs to move the show to a Howard Stern affiliate station!
Laura sounding self-serving and self righteous as ever. I feel for the caller Laura dumped on. Hateful people can hide for a while and then one day, BOOM they show their hearts. Buh-bye and thanks for cleaning up our airwaves with your departure doc.
Who uses a word is part of the context. being white is not a proper context to use the n-word. black people can use it because it means something different when they say it as opposed to dr. laura
I am glad Laura S. is leaving....she seems very resentful and racist!
The easiest solution to this issue is turn off the radio. The Dr. that was featured on tonights AC 360 really needs to rethink his opinion of the 1st Amendment.
The guest John Ridley is correct. Dr. Laura's 1st amendment rights were not lost. She was just insensitive to the caller that day. If you hear the tape, the caller remained calm while Dr. Laura went off on her tirade.
That's an interesting phrase...Post Racial America. Unfortunately, we're a ways off from that and that's too bad.
Don't know what to say about Dr. Laura. I was never a fan.
Dr. Laura decided to use this caller to make a buck. It backfired. She decided to make news. She did.
I had never ever listened to Dr. Laura so I had no preconceived notion of her. She comes off very shrill, brittle, angry, and just plain unlikable. I don't think I would ever seek her out for counseling. Humble and compassionate don't seem to be her strengths.
Dr. Laura should consider silence... for good.
No, she didn't Kayteee. I don't listen to her show so maybe she never does, I have no idea. But in the case cited, she clearly took up her own banner instead of helping the caller.
She didn't have to resign or end her career. We all screw up sometimes.
I didn't feel using the N word was racist. I was rather turned off by her loud ranting, angry advise and seeming problem with the NNACP. She illustrated a true point angrily.
i think laura was mad because of the interacial marriage.............hmmm
The "N" word is an urban thing. Huge numbers of blacks live outside of urban areas and would never say that word.
I agree, Kenya, she does not sound remorseful...she sounds resentful. I doubt she is remorseful, honestly, and very plainly is resentful. She probably doesn't think she really did anything wrong.
Dr. Laura knows she is wrong and that's exactly why she is going to retire. If she thought she didn't do anything then she'd be fighting back. Her remarks about her freedom of speech is absolute nonsense.
How does the US claim to the land of the free when poeple are not even free to express their views.
Good evening everyone, and AC wherever you are:) Dr. Laura should quit – she has no business being in the position she is in, to broadcast such negative words that fuel fires we have been trying to put out for many years. She screwed up, and she is doing the right thing by quitting.
She never even tried to listen to the caller and or help her at all!
Hello Everyone!
I don't see where Dr. Laura has lost her 1rst ammendment rights. As far as her racist remark on her talk show and what I heard from the tape she sounded very sarcastic when she answered this ladies question.
Good evening, people. I felt that Dr. L. really treated her caller badly.
I agree with Al Sharpton's comments today.
Dr. Laura sounds bitter because she purely made "some people angry" and is therefore leaving the radio. She just doesn't come off as remorseful to me IMO.
I don't know who Admiral Allen is taking his orders from but everything that has come from him has been hugely optimistic in BP's favor. It's not surprising to hear more of the same.
Yes! Laura, every time some one puts their foot in the mouth or fibs, they accuse some invisible force acting against them.
You brought this on to yourself.
@Samantha Rowley, lol! Fiasco is a good word for it!
NO Laura, you need giver up your job now!!!!!!!
Hey John Roberts, good evening, and also to all my fellow bloggers. I knew that oil didn't just disappear. I'm listening now to Dr. Laura and I would like to remind her that all African Americans are not a "special interest group".
Good evening.
Looking forward to tonights show.
