Dr. Laura's N-Word Rant: Join the Live Chat

[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/02/liveblogfinal.copy.jpg]

Tonight on 360°, Doctor Laura Schlessinger's n-word rant. What she said to an African American caller on her radio show about race, interracial marriage, and the N-Word over and over again. And what she is saying about it now. Plus, keeping them honest, more on the allegations of terror babies taking aim at the U.S. You'll hear from the Congressman who claims he got the information from a former FBI.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

Dr. Laura loves to use the word whether she called anyone the name or not. She is a terrible woman.

I was white until I got a tan this summer, according to Dr. Laura I may have enough melanin to use the "n" word. Unbelievable! She must go the way of Imus. Gone!

why is it ok for Black people to use the N word and not white people.
If they dont like the word the the Black people should not use it either.

Dr. Laura has no idea how it feels to be on the side of the fence....

Much of our history is written all over it and that "hypersensitivity" has nothing to do with it. Try reading some literature books, i.e. "To Kill a Mockingbird..." maybe you'll get an idea, Dr. Laura.

Her apology is very well not accepted, by the way.

Dr. Laura spoke the intellectual truth, with a palpable degree of arrogance, about the use of the N word, but given her status on the radio and the size of her audience, she had to know what she was saying was inflammatory, and easily misunderstood by a sizable portion of that audience. She's a reactionary, let's face it, and her comments were in sync with that world view.

i do disagree with the dr using the n word multiple times, and it seems that at one point she was doing it to antagonize. however i do believe that black people are using the n word as a way to keep themselves bound to their past as slaves, i disagree with slavery, but i feel that black people are too sensitive about a word that they themselves have never heard in the context where it was born.

@Emily, talk is cheap. And words can hurt. A lot

It is an offensive word. Where did the word come from? I think it reflects poorly on the person using it.

Well, I knew Louie Gohmert as a Judge, felt he would be a mistake as a congressman, and just realized I was correct. God help those of us he represents. Charlie Wilson just turned over in his grave...

"Don't NAACP me!" What's that supposed to mean??! I would like to see someone interview the caller. Get on this story like they did the flight attendant one.

Dr Laura's words sound even WORSE now that I've heard the whole segment. She immediately dismissed this woman's concerns, before the n-word was ever even brought up! Then she quite randomly interjected that blacks voted for Obama b/c he is black. That was completely out of left field.

  13. Renee

You have to be kidding me? Did she really think she was right? Does she really think that every Black person says the n word on a daily basis. Oh.....no.........

  14. Heather - Spokane, WA

She really didn't apologize, she just said it was wrong to say

I believe this was a full blown racial insult to the woman who called on the phone for help. Dr S, didn't help her, she ranted about her own

  16. Pete

Her apology is entirely lacking in sincerity. This woman has absolutely no integrity, morals or manners.

  17. Casey Jones - Palm Springs, CA

Oh......my......word. What is Schlessinger thinking? She is absolutely evil. I didn't have any opinion about her until now. She didn't INTEND to hurt anyone? This is not about intent, it's about reality–that was NOT an acceptable apology. She is not one bit sorry.

Dr. Laura needs to be off the air. Not just for her language in this instance, but because she attempts to "help" people without actually listening to them. She is dangerous.

    August 12, 2010 at 10:24 pm |
  19. Sharon Hastings

It's appropriate that she did apologize. Her attitude stinks. Separate from the n–word, she is just plain obnoxious, rude, and full of herself.

    August 12, 2010 at 10:24 pm |
  20. Emily

What about the fact that she called the caller "too insensitive"; and that she "shouldn't have married someone out of her own race" ?

Aside, from using the "N-word" over & over again....

    August 12, 2010 at 10:23 pm |
  21. Dave

Not a fan of Dr Laura. I don't like the "N" word. Listening to the preview I of the segment I thought she was wrong.
After listening to the entire segment I don't see that she owes any apology to anyone.

I must say, I have been a big fan of Dr. Laura's since the early 90's. But she was wrong... I'm glad she apologized.

Dr. (Racist) Laura – just simply sounded like she had to vent about her true feelings...The woman simply called to ask a question...Her comment about the NAACP didn't have anything to do with the question the woman had to ask...If she was simply wanting to prove a point about what the comedians have to say maybe she could have said it once to prove that point, but to repeat it over and over again – Dr. Laura "I think Youre a racist.

If she was really sorry, she would have made it a point to be available for an interview..

The concept of terror babies is ridiculous. There has been no evidence to substantiate it so why is it getting so much press time? Isn't there any other news-worthy things going on in the world?

With Gohmert: anyone who can pose a potential threat to the citizens of the United States should be under question themselves. I am appalled that this is what is representing our government.

Dr Laura: the n word literally translates to "one who is ignorant." so what does that make her??

Thank you Anderson for challenging these reps from Texas for some evidence. I hope we don't see this false argument grow with the upcoming election. It is a scare tactic and I hope people will investigate this before believing. It's yet another way to scare people to vote Republican.

She just seems so obnoxious. and its not the first time she's said something like this with no remorse and then apologize later. She seems very much no genuine.

thank goodness she apologised. that makes it all better. she articulated it.

WoW! The caller is courageous enough to stay on the line and confront Laura! You go "Caller"...

I can purely see that Dr. Laura starting to tread back towards the end of the conversation.

Oh! Please – Dr. Laura -Your apology is worse.

laura is making a point. it's just a word. i believe her point was to show how certain words are restricted to certain groups of people.

I'm suprised Anderson Cooper believes the FBI is actually going to admit something like 'terroritst babies' is happening. IF this is going on...there is ZERO chance the FBI is going to divulge to anybody that they are aware of it. The FBI tries to fight things like 'terrorist babies' by not letting anybody know they are fighting it.

  38. Kayteee

OMG! That woman's audience should stop listening to her!!

    August 12, 2010 at 10:22 pm |
  39. Danielle

What one person does has nothing to do with what you do, how you choose to conduct yourself. She and people like her, have no sympathy or consideration for what Black people have gone through in this country. She owns that. She can't blame that on what anyone else does. And I don't buy her apology.

    August 12, 2010 at 10:22 pm |

I think she should be shunned by all the radio stations and listeners.
I thought she was above this type racism. Comedians say it once and kill they're career. Why not her??
    By the way...Im white

This "terror baby" congressman clearly has absolutely no evidence. He is only grandstanding or has lost his grip on reality.

Obviously we may not know where when or how the next terrorist attack will come. However, the congressman, at best, is using this as a pretext to fuel the effort to attack the 14th amendment
