To Linda Winchell who commented "all the volunteers were white":

There were two African-American Evacuteers interviewed, so I don't think you watched the whole segment before commenting.

And perhaps that's as far as you've truly explored the issue? Just a guess. People tend to see in reality what they believe or want to believe.

Also Evacuteer is simply a non-profit trying to help in New Orleans. Non-profits are not government organizations, so they rely on charitable donations, friends, and friends of friends to do their work.

So Evacuteer may be training a lot of young white people simply because its founder is white and has a lot of white friends. Is your grand thesis on "the willingness of blacks to volunteer" really required here? I think not. Evacuteer is a young, growing organization and may soon be more black than white depending on many of factors that have nothing to do with who's willing and able to volunteer, but mostly by who actually hears about them. I'm guessing this week a lot of the volunteers will probably be people who watch CNN.

P.S. Most non-profits need money just as much as volunteers. So even if you don't live in New Orleans you could easily donate at Evacuteer's website. If you don't donate, can I draw the conclusion that whites prefer stereotyping to donating? Well I could, but I'd be wrong, right?

On your CNN piece on "Katrinas' Evacuteers'", I couldn't help but notice that all the voluteers were white? But yet, the stadium during Katrinas' floods disaster were all black?

I have seen this more than once, where when asking for volunteers or any help to build housing etc. very few ,if any black people step up to the plate! While I know that there must be many black run organizations in place to help victims of this horrilbe disaster, but I have yet to see them? Please explain. Mrs. Linda Winchell

I LIKE TO COMMENT ON IMMIGRATION. I can not blame anyone for going to any county in search of work to feed their family. But I could blame the employer who employs and encourages illegal Immigrants to come here and I feel they should be heavily fine with jail time attached.
