Illegal immigration & the U.S. Consititution: Join the live chat

Tonight, the government puts out a new estimate of how much oil has leaked from BP's well... and it's higher than BP ever acknowledged. And the big news on the immigration front is that some lawmakers are now advocating drastic action, or a hearing to explore such action, to change not the state law but the United States Constitution. We'll bring you all the angles.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

An alarm didn't go off and the accomplice threw pliers over the fence. Was there any video monitoring?

So the static kill is backed up by the relief wells or that is a second step? It is amazing that once they got a cap on the well they can proceed.

I enjoyed catching some of the news about the wedding this weekend. Congratulations to the newlyweds

    Good night everyone.

I keep seeing CNN say "have we made too much of the oil spill?" the chemicals that were used to disperse the oil have changed the life in the ocean for a long time. just cause you can't see something doesn't mean it's not there. do you really get this?

@Nicole from Netherlands – No where in this world though, you could come with 90$ in your pocket and make it too 1000 or much more times in just 10 years.

This country and the people have taught me a lot more that i could for the rest of my life (till to the grave). Even with all the pain of legal immigrant and being sand bagged time and time again with illegal immigration, I still love this country and what it did do for me!

Think of it Nicole – It probably is still worth for the right person with a right cause!

Is the static kill going to take four months to do like it took for the oil to stop?

    August 2, 2010 at 10:56 pm |
  21. Mike, formerly from Syracuse

It's a myth that illegals are doing jobs no American wants. Only 2% of illegals work in agriculture. Many others have jibs paying 20/hr or more in construction. The problem is they accept jobs at much less than Americans will. It's been shown they depress wages. Companies can pay cash and avoid paying payroll taxes and benefits, and illegals accept that. There are over 14 million unemployed Americans, many of whom will do ANY job that pays a fair wage.

it will be interesting to see if the experts hired by bp have the same published conclusions as other independent analysts.

I wonder what legal arguments BP would use to say that they are "not grossly negligent"...

23 Billion ... I wonder if that amount will be even higher?

    August 2, 2010 at 10:53 pm |
  29. Samantha Rowley - Nashville, TN

    4.9 million?! Amazing...

Hope the static kill works and ends this well once and for all.

BP knew the pressure and flow rate to a very high degree of accuracy from day one. They had digital readings up to the minute when it blew. They lied and hoped no one would call them out on it.

Craigslist is no different from these annoying "pop-ups" asking people to join some silly websites for "cheap dates in your area". I'm looking forward to that report tomorrow.

    Kenya,
I agree..... that is very danger one I have seen....... Good point there, It is annoyed to me, I never use this website Craiglist.
