House ethics committee investigators have recommended that Rep. Charlie Rangel of New York be reprimanded, according to one of those investigators, Rep. Gene Green, D-Texas.
A reprimand would be a relatively light punishment, compared with censure and expulsion. The recommendation was made to the ethics committee before Thursday's public hearing detailing charges against Rangel.
The full committee and the House would have to approve any sanction against Rangel.
Asked about the recommendation, Rangel said it's "untrue."

Just another example, for me, why we should VOTE everyone out of office and start all over.
The tax evasion and using premises are both beyong simple ethics.
He is 80 and been in government for 40 years. Time to let some new blood into Harlem politics. He could have fixed this when he stepped down from Ways and Means by saying I will stand down at the next election and give XYZ my support.
He hoped for and got as a resut of standing down from Ways and means a mere " reprimand" which he feels allows him ( EGO) to stay on as Senator.
He will do so, but for me shame on him.
Regards,
Hodgson.
Rep. Rangel, as a founder of the Congressional Black Caucus; what can you expect from a Democratic party that is terrified of the CBC?
All my life I've been told that the Democratic party is the party for the "common man", well I think the "common man" needs to wake up! Rangel and his friends are out for themselves and no one else! They use race and social economic status as a divisive weapon; it's always us against them. How can they claim to be one of us or doing what's in our best interest? When was the last time one of us forgot to pay our taxes and claim income from our home in the Dominican Republic! And very time one of them is caught breaking the rules we have to follow it's a "misunderstanding" or an over sight!
We need to change! We have the power in November to clean up that "swamp"! We were once a Proud Republic governed by rule of law! Where are the Americans that are proud of the U.S.A., what she stands for and of being Americans? We need more of them to stand up as our leaders and wake the rest of the nation up to what is going on! We are letting them change our country without saying a word! We need to come together as Americans and vote for leaders that are interested in what we want! Government was once for the people, by the people. Now it for special interest groups, social ideology and lining their own pockets! Open your eyes before it's too late; vote!
If i do those same crimes will I get just a Repremand?????????
Every day, ethical, hard working, law abiding citizens have to stomach politicians and corporate executives who speak out of both sides of their mouths while acting deplorably.
President Obama had the chance to change the culture of corruption when selecting a Treasury Secretary; he passed.
Now the House has the opportunity to throw out riff raff; until this country changes its culture, enforces its laws and demands accountability, we are doomed to Third World status.
Anderson, excellent program last night. As always we the people can depend on you to keep it truthful on politicians and you did so on Rangel last night. I am not surprised the committee investigators would make such a ridiculous recommendation as Rangel most likely has a lot of dirt on all these people and they sure don't want to be on the news with their dirty laundry exposed. I doubt Rangel will up easily. He's old school politician.
