Immigration Law Showdown: Join the Live Chat

[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/02/liveblogfinal.copy.jpg]

Within hours, Arizona's new immigration law takes effect. Although, a federal judge has blocked some key provisions. We'll have all the angles. Plus, a bizarre court case with allegations a defense contractor wanted a memory erasing pill and his alleged connection to pornographic videos, one million dollar race horses and a $100,000 jewel-encrusted belt buckle.

3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links

Is the company that David Brooks worked for not at all concerned about his activities? Or are they bringing the case against him, or is it the fed govt.

    A veterinarian?

Maybe the Swedish police don't have a lot of crime.

    Good night everyone.

I think Arizona has the right to take care of their business the way they need to until the government can create proper laws that do. Good night Anderson and all.

As a woman in the fashion industry and a reader of Essence magazine, they have promoted this as a magazine for and about black women. This has alot to do with why so many black women are mad about this, but to me this may have been about the buttom line and not color. Essence made the choose for there magazine and we either read it or not. I will pass on it myself.

In California there are illegal immigrants children receiving cash assistance and the entire family is receiving foodstamps. The mother may be using a false social security number for employment but not reporting the income to Social Services. Also, in some cases the fathers are in the household using false social security numbers providing an income for their families but not being reported in the home to Social Services and the mothers state there whereabouts are unknow so they do not have to pay child support to help reimburse cash services received.

Essence should be able to hire the person they feel is most qualified for the fashion editor or director position. I am surprised that that would be the one position available for an African American fashion editor.

Living in new mexico I have met a few people who are illegal immigrants- the saddest thing I have seen is how horrible a few of these people have been treated- there are a couple of guys in this floor crew who make 120 a week each and yet the man who hires these illegal immigrants gets 3000 a month and does none of the work- they are continuously going thru employees because that isn't enough money to pay rent let alone feed a family- there were a few times these men had to sleep in the parking lot because the lack of funds- I do not agree with illegal immigrants here illegally but this is even worse!

When will you ever get it? It's not the farm worker jobs that have been taken by illegals. It is roofing, painting, construction, etc, jobs lost by working Americans to lesser wages.

It really is the details! This is nasty...and some of what he spent it on...pornographic videos, etc.

I would not want to be the defense attorney in that case...

It is not about immigration, racial profiling, or the right and wrong thing to do. It is about illegal immigration, its about entering the country illegally and a state trying to maintain control of an illegal situation. The bottom line is that you must enter this country legally.

My question about the Essence issue would be whether the white fashion director understand the black woman's body. Essence has always featured fashions that fit and flattered the typically curvacious aspects of the black woman's body. The mainstream fashion magazines typically do not. And it appears that black women have never been able to get fashion director positions or many high level postions at mainstream magazines.

What is good for one should be good for all. Black, white, Hispanic, Asian..whatever the race we should all be qualified for any job that matches our credentials, experience, education, and any other requirement that a company feels "this person is right for us!"

Robert I agree that it is a horrible thing. Under the SB 1070 law any of my coworkers and family members would be stopped. It was and is a bad law because I believe it dide ar encourage racial profiling. However the argument on immigration has been discussed over and over. The laws are there it is just they are not been enforced.
