I watched the conversation between the Tea party gentleman and the black gentleman (sorry I'm lousy with names) and might have enjoyed the debate. The black gentleman needs to learn that talking over people and loudly proclaiming your point at the speed of light is not the way to inform people nor is it any way to have a debate. What I came away with was that regardless of what we do any white person is a racist because we're white. That attitude is wrong headed in the extreme.
Men and women died to free slaves...... Men and women died for out freedom of speech. We do not have to agree to what people say, we need to fight for the right for them to say it!
Unfortunately a great deal our press has become no more than a haven for sensationalism. Pity. But Anderson, I can rely on you for the great journalism that used to be ours.
I'm really surprised by some of the negative comments towards CNN. CNN is the only news I will bother watching and this incident is another reason why, I want to hear all of the facts. I don't need to watch other programs who want to preach to me and tell me how to think. I have my own mind and I would like to hear all of the facts, I don't need help thinking. Thank you Anderson for bothering to report only the facts and for giving me a program to watch where I can hear both sides of an issue. I cannot help but put myself in this lady's place, I cannot imagine losing my job over someone's twisted agenda.
Its amazing when I hear a racist remark, I just can't believe that ignorance like Sharrods views exsist. You can't be so narrow minded to believe you can make a racist comment and then scream racism yourself when you're shown for who you truly are. Karma.
Doesn't Louisiana and the other gulf states benefit greatly from offshore drilling and should have had an emergency fund and plan for a disaster like this in place. Alot of the claims are based on killing animals that don't belong to the fisher's. I'm curious of the state's right to say no to offshore drilling and signing a consequence sheet. Aren't alot of federal dollars going to unemployment claims there and then also they get settlements for staying home. If the states in the gulf were benefitting all these years, shouldn't they pay the federal government for their assistance? Then these gulf states want to keep on drilling when there should be a safety standdown....
Enough about race ,We already fought that war 150 years ago
Whatever you do should always be "truth-based". I have never believed in fabricating the truth; it serves no positive purpose.
Louisiana Parish President Billy Nunngasser a long running CNN Guest for Anderson Cooper in AC360's coverage of the Louisiana Oil Gulf gusher has stated on CNN that he was glad that BP's CEO Tony Hayward was stepping down and being replaced so 'We can get back to doing what we have done before'.
Ok, 2,000 Miles of Louisiana Marshes and Wetlands disappeared because of big Oil and Gas dredges along Louisiana's Gulf during the past several decades. Is that what you are referring to Billy? This spill lost 20 miles of marshes, and yet previously 2,000 Miles were lost. Louisiana crude has heavily poisoned the Gulf of Mexico, is Billy realistic in stating 'getting back to doing what was done before'?
Rebuilding New Orleans again under sea level seems to have absolutely no common sense in learning from the Katrina disaster.
Rushing to operate Louisiana deep Ocean Oil wells without environmental impact studys, federal emergency contingency plans filed also appears to contain absolutely no common sense in learning from the ongoing Louisiana Gulf disaster.
funny that you won't post my comments since they are critical of the 'fair and balanced' meme you hold so dear.
there simply is nothing coming from the left side that comes close to the outright lies and rubbish the right uses to score political points.
that's the truth AC and just a little 'real' research will lead you there and set you free sir.
watching you twist yourself into a pretzel to be fair to the right is just darned painful to behold.
I have nothing to gain by this comment – I'm a Canadian that follows the political antics down there – it's real reality tv.
I fully agree with Anderson
This guy has achieved exactly what he set out to achieve which is to take away the focus regarding racism from the Tea party. to NAACP
It makes me sick to see just how much air time he gets.
His coverage makes a mockery of the media, journalism, and the original intention and meaning of free speech.
Hey Anderson, do you remember Judge Pickering from 2004? A lot of similarities minus the outrage from the media. Certain senators from New York along with liberal organizations in this country had no problem labeling this man a racist to further their point of view. Too bad Medgar Evers family did not share same point of view. What's up with that? If anyone took the time to look back at that situation they would find that another fine American was slandered to further a political cause. What Breitbart did was no different than what Senators Clinton and Schumer, and the liberal establishment did to Judge Pickering. It is wrong now and it was wrong then. The only difference is there was no outrage like there is now.
It would be honest if CNN, along with the other mainstream media, admit and apologiize for their part in spreading the false and edited video before the full video was found. You claim to be professional journalists but often act like the tabloid press. I was amazed at how CNN repeatedly played the story about Acorn during the last election as if it was fact. Stop trying to compete with the tabloids CNN and admit it when you make a mistake instead of just pointing to others mistakes.
There is not doubt that listening to Shirley Sherrod you can see that she is a racist.
Why did Anderson take it so easy on the five NAACP members? Some were claiming that they knew how Sherrod's speech would end and were encouraging her speech. If so, why were they showing encouragement during the racist parts?
If the movie Roots were playing and someone were to show approval during one of the whippings, that would be wrong and inproper. In this case, it was wrong and inproper to display approval during the racist parts of Sherrod's speech. If in fact the audience members were not racist themselves they sure picked the wrong time to show their approval, instead they should have reserved their approval for the part of the speech where she had her transformation.
Anderson, You left out Fox News' role in this. The were the platform that moved the video into the mainstream news cycle. It is not only about the guy who posted the video.
Breitbardt seems like the sort of person who would never admit he made a mistake or error in judgment even to himself. They end up eventually hurting their own careers and themselves. People are pretty quick to discern who is trying to be honest in their coverage and who is just calling "Wolf!" one more time. The blogosphere and the air waves would be a much better place to be without him and his rantings. Thanks Anderson for reminding us about what journalism is suppose to be first and foremost – truthful.
this was a beautiful moment, and i was glad to see it when it aired.
I listened to your report last night concerning Andrew Breitbach and the fact that he feels no compulsion to apologize to Mrs. Shirley Sherrod. In fact, according to your report he said he could care less about Shirley Sherrod. I listened to you say that the way he thinks is the way idealogues think, both on the left and on the right. I have not heard any reports from you or anyone else that I can remember on any specific person on the left who "cherry-pickied" his or her facts. It seems to be instead, that it has been those on the right who cannot bother to check facts, who falsify accounts and just out and out lie (I'm thinking about the ACORN disgrace, the New Black Panther nonsense) in order to push their agenda. If I am wrong and someone on the left has committed some similar charade, please inform me. If you cannot cite an example, please refrain from trying to make the left seem equally guilty of perpetrating frauds like these upon the American pubic.
thank you most sincerely,
I want to commend you for actually saying that journalism should be about telling the truth, not showing clips that will add fuel to one's own agenda. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find fair and balanced news. I hope Anderson Cooper continues to 'keep them honest'.
Good Morning Anderson.
I so agree the professional journalism should be about the truth. It's not about how hard someone can defraud the government or rip apart a repretation. It's not about anything like that. It's about giving us the truth. Journalism is about telling us what we want to know and being neutral in the process.
Thank you Anderson for being one of those journalist I can trust to give it to me straight. Every day, all the time.
I would like to thank Anderson Cooper for being an honorable
reporter in pointing out who the real story should be about, Breitbart. While other news outlets were quick to point the finger elsewhere, Anderson Cooper's comments are thruthfull and honest. It is refreshing to hear a clear voice in an ocean of misinformation and
sensationalism especially coming from FOX.
Thank you, Anderson
AC it's been painfull to watch the way you twist yourself into a pretzel trying to be 'fair and balanced' regarding the rhetoric being equal from the left and right wing. If you're looking for the thruth see if your research department can come up with anything the left says that comes close to the hate and vitriolic rubbish spewed by the right. The rw has perfected the art of twisting or making up facts to down right lying and when called onit – which is very rare byu the MSM they still won't apologise, they just find another attack to deflect. Seriously please do some real research and see what is really happened to the discourse in America, it's sickening and by a wide margin it originates from the right.
Anderson, I couldn't agree more. Might I add, that those who take 'snippets' to satisfy certain political agendas often do this to detract from the other side, when the other side does good. They have learned long ago, that this is effective tool to strengthen otherwise benign political movements in national, then global powers of strength. History has shown that strength is not always a good thing, in fact it can be horrible when used with less than honourable intent. I'm afraid to say the economic situation has made the United States particularly vulnerable. This is not about race so much as a struggle between the 'haves' and the 'have nots'. It's sad to say, that the 'good' do not always prevail. Its the ones who have the money, resources and consequential power that wins the struggle in the end.
Breitbart is a mis-information czar, has his own agenda and does not objectively report the news...hmm sounds like Olbermann, Maddow and CNN. ...Everyone is jumping on Fox News about this...I don't remember seeing anyone with a gun held to CNN and the NAACP's head (just to mention a few)when they jumped out there and prematurely ran with the "story". seeing the MSM striking at Vilsac, Cook, Gibbs and Obama is like watching cannibalism at its finest....and me? Am I a Republican? I answer that with, "Elect Hillary in 2012"! In the immortal words of Forest Gump "That's all I have to say about that".
Dear CNN: See if you have the cahungas to post this.
