[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/02/liveblogfinal.copy.jpg]

Forecasters warn Tropical Storm Bonnie is headed for the Gulf. We have the breaking developments on what this means for the BP oil disaster. Plus, Shirley Sherrod gets an apology from Pres. Obama.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

is it not news that BP should/could have replaced the broken riser on day 2 or any day since – including today – this is a relatively simple operation – that would have completely eliminated this disaster – and this is a fact that never has been reported – how can this be ..........

I am praying for a mild storm season for those in the South!

The Lockerbie scandal just goes to show you that even when it comes to a country like Great Britain and a tragedy like Lockerbie, money is more important than the lives of innocent people.

    @Merl,Ohio
"Lockerbie bomber showed no mercy for his victims, none should be shown to him!"
When you have an Oil Company behind you, which is what it appears happened...again, the victims take second place.

If the oil is not flowing from well it is likely that the storm will be beneficial if it agitates the seas.

    @ Brad Ohio

I completely agree. Not to mention that from now on, people will be a lot more careful regarding prejudice and this situation.

Thank you again and again Anderson for your commitment to keeping the oil spill incident a priority. It's not surprising that BP "altered" anything. Makes us wonder what else they have altered!! I think we have to be skeptical of the results of any of their internal investigations about what really happened to cause this.

@Emily it is scary how much influence the oil companies have..
It changed my view of the world.
Just imagine what would have happened when the environmentalists in the seventies where taken serious..
That's why whe need government and legislation.

@ Brad, Yes that has been a positive. Hopefully, no matter what our political views are, we will not take videos/articles/blogs as "truth". Fingers crossed that Journalists/ News Org's. will start to be more mindful in who/what they use as a source. A bit of fact checking can go a long way ;).

If this depression turns into a hurricane can it effect the B.O.P. and oil that has settled on the ocean floor .

Did the oil make it into the current and make it around Florida towards the east coast?

Loved Anderson's opening comments tonight about searching for and finding the truth. Most folks should apply these principals to every day living and their own relationships. Seek first to understand in lieu of opening one's mouth.

I completely agree. Those killed never had a second chance and this guy will be living for how long?? Hopefully, this is a lesson to the world!

The Lockerbie case should be a major lesson to us. We need to look deeper into these stories and the corporate motivation behind these events. Lockerbie looks like it was manipulated by BP in order to get an oil contract. You guys are great but you need to follow the money full circle..

  17. Louise W.

You know, crime victims never really stop being victimized. First they are victimized by the crime itself, then the system that is supposed to "help" them (or their families) get justice also vicimizes them in so many other ways. It's disgusting!

They will need luck, Starr (good evening!) But I do think more than BP is a player there.

    July 22, 2010 at 10:47 pm |
  19. Helen

I don't know why the Lockerbie Bomber is such a big story. Really, a corrupt big oil company lobbying a government for oil contract? What a novel idea? BP is the british government.

    July 22, 2010 at 10:47 pm |
  20. Nancy in Oregon

Probably not just with the help of BP, Adriana. There were probably lots of powerful sources and elements at work.

@Nicole The Netherlands, "We can agree to disagree, can we?"

    @Michael – Orange County, CA

Lets hope that BP stays in business so they can make good on all their debts!!! However, I would suspect that the executives will try to gather as much money on their way out!!! Orange County... nice place! :~)

The people who lost their life on The Pan Am flight 103 never had a chance to live out their life. My heart goes out for the pain that these families must be going through. I think theres a lot more imfo behind this that were not being told.

So true, Carla...absolute power corrupts. So does major power. It is true on all levels, right down to family dynamics. I think we have to expect it when we relegate great power.

Or the British goverment did not check the facts about his cancer (apparently they have no mri's or ct scanner's ?)
Or BP and business opportunities played a role of the release of this terrorist..

One of the greatest things about Ms. Sherrod's whole ordeal is to see the tremendous outpouring of support for her. This is what the real America is about. Thanks to CNN and all who have done so!

Could Tropical Storm Bonnie become a Hurricane sometime soon?

Thank you for your diatribe on how journalism is being replaced with unfiltered blather on the blogosphere and on the politically-oriented networks. I prefer to hear real reporting and to form my opinions from facts and fear that future generations will not have that opportunity. Even worse, I fear that the country will not survive as a place of hope.

I can't believe that guy Lockerbie released by british government, big mistake...... he should have stay jail long time now.

  33. Merl,Ohio

I think we all should take note that this well is not yet sealed and we still have that chance. What would it be like if we didn't get this chance? Should we take this chance in the future? Water is the basis of life.

Ever since this oil leak, over 90 Days ago, I think we are seeing just how much influence the Oil Companies really have. Many may have known it, however, I think we are really seeing it....

Good Job on keeping them honest !! Breinhert needs to apologize to Shirley for putting up the doctored video.

    July 22, 2010 at 10:43 pm |
  37. Michael - Orange County, CA.

I believe BP's oil spill has already bankrupt their company and we'll see numerous executives retiring and cashing out their shares before the massive flood of lawsuits are filed.

    July 22, 2010 at 10:42 pm |
  38. Adriana

Poor guy...his brother will never come back and his killer was freed with the help of BP. Sad and scary...

    July 22, 2010 at 10:42 pm |
  39. Bill

Like I said, Sherrod was going to resign for all the wrong reasons.......Cheryl Cook should step up and resign for all the right reasons! What kind of executive or government administrator would request an employee to pull over to the side of the road to resign anyway? Cheryl Cook must be a coward.

    July 22, 2010 at 10:41 pm |
  40. Starr, formerly known as vincent

The Lockerbie terrorist's release was a travesty and didn't seem quite right at the time.

I hope that a hearing will get to the bottom of a possible "business" relationship between the release and BP.

I wish the hearing luck, they're going to need it.

  41. Nicole The Netherlands

@Jewell and Nancy, that is how my brain picked up the story she told...

    July 22, 2010 at 10:41 pm |
  42. Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio

@Jewell, "that was how Ms. Sherrod felt at the time."

I watched the unedited tape and I do understand what you are saying, but she was using those words to describe the incident in the present tense to her audience, she did not say that is how she felt at the time.

It is really tragic that BP has to resort to photoshop corrections. ~sigh~

BP has so much power !
I think that they had great sway in the release of the Lockerbie Bomber.

Isn't this well drilled in international waters? Or is it drilled in U.S. territory of the gulf?

Unbelievable! It's shocking that BP may be involved with the release of that extremist. Absolutely shocking.

Time and time again, folks on this blog have been crying foul on videos and photos saying that they have been doctored.

We have come to a point that there is no "pure truth"...
