Administration's fourth bill to BP totals $99.7 million

The Obama administration has sent a fourth bill for $99.7 million to BP and other responsible parties relating to the energy company's oil spill, according to a statement from the Deepwater Horizon Incident Joint Information Center.
The government said BP is financially responsible for all costs associated with the response to the spill, including efforts to stop the leak at its source, reduce the spread of oil, protect the shoreline and mitigate damages, as well as long-term recovery efforts for individuals and communities.
The government bills BP and other parties regularly for costs incurred by the federal on-scene coordinator to support federal, state and local response efforts and ensure the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund is reimbursed on an ongoing basis.

With respect, BP did not wait 20 years to start paying and helping affected people. Unlike the glorious American owners of Exxon Valdez Exxon Mobil who are still dragging things thru the courts 20 years later.
Also there are some aspects for which BP may not be fully reponsible in the monetary/legal sense but I agree they have to fight those contractual battles with the other companies separately and later on. Pay first and share/allocate blame later.
The big problem here is that in reality the US governments mis-management of certain things is partially at least to blame especially EPA, MMS. And like it or not please don't forget the fact that Transocean owned and operated the rig not BP, and that the well is owned by Mitsui 10% and Andarko 25% and BP 65%.

Give BP a break they are working on the issue, if you want a better story look at he Dow Bhophl diaster and you will be happy with what BP is doing.
Think about 7000 people in Bhophl and your goverment changes laws so BP has to pay, only in America!

The problem is all of the small companies that are not going to be getting reimbursements. While they definitely should, there are still so many small businesses that just don't keep good financial records because they are operating on such small amounts. While the amounts are small, when you take away all revenue from companies that have small gross revenues or operate primarily in cash, they have no way to be reimbursed due to lack of documentation and the inability to prove the losses they are experiencing. Small businesses will likely take the brunt of this mistake.
Keep up the goood work. That is how a President is suppose to do his job. Have the party who is responsible pay for the clean up and damage. Not waiting for twenty years or more while BP tries to wangle out of payment through court.
