Evening Buzz: Hurricane Alex Coming Ashore

Hurricane Alex is coming ashore right now, about 100 miles south of the U.S.-Mexico border. It's a category two storm with sustained winds of 100 mph. Alex's outer bands are making an impact in Texas, where at least three tornadoes have touchdown. CNN meteorologist Reynolds Wolf will join us live tonight from South Padre Island, Texas with the latest on the developments.
Even though Hurricane Alex is headed away from the Gulf oil spill, it's still have a big impact on the site. Oil skimming ships had to return to shore and containment booms are also being moved around due the rough sea.
Plus, a third ship to collect the oil can't be connected to the well due to the 12-foot waves.
"Until this weather subsides, all we can do is have everything ready to attack and remove this oil once we have weather that is conductive," said Rear Adm. Paul Zukunft, who provided today's Coast Guard news briefing.
We also have breaking news out of Portland, Oregon, where police have reopened an investigation involving former vice president Al Gore. A massage therapist is accusing Gore of unwanted sexual contact at a hotel in 2006.
The police took statements from the woman but initially closed the investigation for lack of evidence. We'll talk it over with CNN Senior Legal Analyst and former federal prosecutor Jeffrey Toobin.

I am happy that you are making the connetion Alaska and the Gulf. The Alaskas Daily News does a great job reporting on the oil in the Gulf and BP lies.
what a pity the skimming is stopped for a few days. Perhaps this will give BP & USCG a little time to get some boom ready to deploy in several concentric circles above the wellhead to contain the oil there. Then also allocate the biggest & best skimmers available to get ready to go inside this containment area to skim oil once seas calm. Then transfer it via floating hoses to tankers outside the containment area for subsequent delivery to shore treatment facilities. BP/USCG should use these few days to muster their forces to contain the oil out at sea above the wellhead instead of letting it migrate all over the ocean and onto shore. It is not too late to do this better late then never.
I'm relieved that Hurricane Alex is just creating high waves for the spill and not going right through the middle of it. Hopefully, the waves will settle down within 24 hours and BP can get back to work hooking up the other ship to collect oil and sending the skimmers back out to work. The sooner they get back at it hopefully the sooner it is cleaned up.
I hope there is no substance to the charges against Al Gore. I have known of Al Gore for a very long time – since he was senator for Tennessee. He is the last one I would expect something like this of and I hope he is innocent of the charges. Looking forward to the show as usual.
