Hello Anderson, I am on the edge of my seat with anticipation, again. I can not wait to see what you’ve uncovered for tonight’s show.

Anderson, the last time this happened was when McChrystal's predecessor was relieved early.

The General is entitled to his own opinion. I applaud him for not being an automaton and being honest. The mission is moving forward. Bottom line -"Is he still doing what's he's been ordered to? "

    Good evening everyone.
Either the general's lost his mind, or he's starting a new career in politics, in which case he's just made a brilliant move.

If Truman could fire MacArthur then Obama can surely chuck McChrystal.

Gen. McChrystal was very focused on population-centric counterinsurgency, rather than President Obama's focus on al-Qa'eda. I would be interested in Peter Bergen's views as to whether any replacement for McChrystal would focus more on the insurgency or more on al-Qa'eda, given the strategic divide in focus.

Am i the only one who is a little happy today that we haven't started the news with BP yet?

Feels good to not think about them yet!

Obviously all these issues demonstrates severe issues in the U.S. General McChrystal obviously thought himself a movie star instead of a warrior. His immature behaviour has undermined the very soldiers he is sending into combat to die. Then there are the Louisiana folks, that are encouraging more oil companies to drill away. Well done Bobby Jinal, keep governing as is. Wow, I need to join the republican party.

So Obama's handpicked general smacked him down! McChrystal may have been out of line, but he may also be expressing opinions about Obama shared by other military personnel.

McChrystal should be FIRED for not merely ONE but more infractions. I don't care if the man is a risk-taker, that is part and parcel of being in the military, and does NOT excuse bad behavior! Period. Yut you do NOT allow, nor contribute to the disrespect of your Commander In Chief, and his office, whether you agree with him or not. That is behavior unbecoming of an Officer of his stature and should NOT be tolerated at all! Do NOT accept his resignation, he does not deserve that level of respect. He should be dressed down and fired!

I don't know why Obama and his boys are so shocked by what General McChrystal said in the Rolling Stones article. All the General said is what the rest of us are already thinking.

its funny how "some" think this Adminstration has messed up these fruitless wars...When this Administration had "nothing" to do with the start of the wars...and they're not able to turn over eveything within a years time...Seems all these opinions...on what bad this Administration has done...when they've done so much good...

I believe the man was expressing his views and opinions to a magazine. Right, wrong or indiffeent, he has that right. He did nothing to compromise his duties and if he is forced to resign or is terminated, I fear for my own job. Maybe President Obama should seek WHY he dels that way and consider his point of view.

    General McChrystal shoul be fired,
It is not an Officers position to speak about politcs to the Public.
And if he was drinking alchol in a muslum country that is a poor example of a Officer in the United States Army officers are to hold a higher moral and ethical behavior in combat or any other Host country.

The General defied the Uniform Code of Military Justice, knowingly, and in a time of war. Like McClellan and MacArthur before him, McChrystal deserves to be fired. The partisans need to cool it. This isn't about party viewpoint, but the preservation of our democracy and that requires absolute control of the military by civilian authority.

McArthur and Truman went through this, and I think we know how that turned out–this should be the same. Obama should not give the general the choice to resign but should fire him.

I'm disappointed in our general but he does make a valid point. our president doesn't seem to be leading our military to victory.

It is unfortunate that a guy of this stature can't keep his mouth shut. He is what this country needs to protect it. it reminds me of watching a movie...A Few Good Men.

General McChrystal did make a mistake... However, he apologized. I think that it would be a even worse mistake for President Obama to fire him. General McChrystal is bearing the weight of the war in Afghanistan on his shoulders. Everyday he has to deal with a corrupt government and the deaths of those he's lead. Obviously, the amount of pressure is tremendous.

    June 22, 2010 at 10:10 pm |

I think the General's apology is enough and that " there is much ado about nothing"! I think the Rolling Stone reporter played those guys like a violin. He should be ashamed with his gotcha journalism sprung on war weary soldiers.

It is about time someone in the military has the guts to stand up to this regime. This regime does not care about the military and will do anything to weaken it. Hats off to you General McChrystal for speaking up and telling it like it is. I just wish the rest of the media would do the same about this puppet president and his followers. Don't drink the kool aid like many of the country did 1 1/2 years ago.

I think the General said what many American's have been saying in the coffee shops, living rooms and other meeting areas the past year.

I think that President Obama should fire the general as opposed to letting the general resign. Although my husband and I have never been in favor of this war, there are men and women putting their lives on the line minute by minute. The toll on them and their families is huge. This kind of scathing subordination is harmful to our troops as well as how we are viewed by the world.

Obama must fire McChrystal, he must show the country he is in charge. This is not the first time SM has pulled this kind of crap. He covered up the Tillman death and also has leaked some report so he could achieve what he wanted. I say throw the bum out!

So is the General planning to run for president as a republican against Pres Obama? Is that why he is trying to make Obama look bad?

Gen. McChrystal should be facing a courts martial. When I was on active duty if I would have made a public satement like that about my commander (especially the Commander In Chief) I would have gotten a ticket straight to Levenworth. No Questions asked

It seems a strange sequence of events for the General. The Rolling Stone article is fascinating, especially in that it isn't just speculative.

I agree with civilian rule of the military, but not left of center liberals who know nothing about it; what an oxy moron. This great country is free and what it is because of the likes of Patton and MacArthur; this general is a good replica.

It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow in the meeting with the President. I've wondering if the President will allow him to resign without recourse or will exact punishment from the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice)...with a possible Article 91 offense for insubordination?

Well truth hurts..General is right, the administration has bungled the afghan war, cutting him loose and putting a yes man in place is not going to solve the problem. there is still time to cut losses and wrap up the afghan theater, winning there is a dream which is never going to happen.

    June 22, 2010 at 10:08 pm |

I think that the President should listen to the General and then fire him.

so is it true that mcchrystal is considered by many to be the only one who can do the job? would that make mcchrystal 'too big to fail' ?

come on ... if the military doesn't have redundancy (surely generals have understudies) i would be shocked. what would they do if he had ever been killed in combat ... the entire afghan project would have fallen apart? sheesh.

It's questionable that the comments rise to the level of insubordination. However, Obama can fire any flag officer at any time if he loses confidence in him or her.

Was this Gen. MCChrystal under the influence of something while doing the interview with RS? What was he thinking. Poor judgement indeed!

General McChrystal exercised poor judgment and a major breech of protocol by being insubordinate to his chain of command. Such behavior cannot be tolerated.
