We have 10% unemployment and to hear that the MMS employees were carrying on like that is disgusting. A lot of the unemployed would do anything for their jobs, and they would do their jobs right.

The more tragedy we see, maybe Americans will wake up and want to find an alternative energy source. Maybe it will make us think twice about supporting Oil companies.

Put the pres. of Plaquemine Parish in charge of org the LA clean up. The idea of grids for rescuing birds, esp w/ migration near, is a great plan. Better than BP shirking and lying and sandbagging and the feds dithering!

It almost looks like a slow money bleed of BP at the expense of the Gulf of Mexico. Anderson, your wasting your time untill we find out BP is out of money, then, we'll see a solution.

it says depressing and disturbing news, let's hope the news gets better..
People do care about wildlife and there are millions of members of environmental groups all over this country and on the national level. It is always an uphill battle to get protections in place. Where once the brown pelican was 99% exctinct, we brought him back from the edge and now look at what is happening. It is an abomination to see how little BP thinks about our environment and the Dept of the Interior is just as bad.

What will prevent these 'rescued' animals from becoming covered once again in this oil from this massive slick? I wonder about the 'real' help that is done by 'rescuing' these doomed creatures.
We can not blame just one person for the Gulf situation.

The Presidents speech was horrible. It almost put me to sleep.
He is doing NOTHING to help battle the oil.
All he's doing is blowing hot air - and I WAS a very big supporter Before!
I'm disgusted with his empty talk, empty promises....
Put that General, who you interviewed last night in charge of the battle of the oil and maybe in charge of the country too!
What saddens me the most is that after this is behind us, nothing will change. It will be work as usual because most of us Americans just aren't willing to work for change. We keep believing the Republican's spin of less government and taxes and all the while they and their corporate bosses will be laughing all the way to the bank.

I am not taking a vacation this year, but next year I'm going to Louisiana! I've always wanted to visit there but now I'm going on principle. Even without the beaches, there are lots of historical sites to visit and great music and the place seems to have a soul of its own. Too, they're completely set up for a vacation.
I do agree with Obama on that – it's an industry that hates all regulation. They seem to want to get what they want the quick and dirty way. There's money to be made and that's all that matters!

Billy Nungesser would have destroyed all those birds and their nests with his plan for the widespread building of berms on Louisiana beaches and marshes that are not under imminent threat from oil.
Yes it is sad to see the deaths of these animals. But we need to see more of what is happening to our sea life. I wonder how many dolphins and sea turtles are washing up on the shoreline and we are not seeing it.
Why are responses to this disaster taking so long... or not happening at all? Peoples lives are being ruined. People, animals, sea creatures, habitat are dead and dying right before our eyes. We are in a state of emergency. Why isn't this being treat as one?
BP collecting oil statistics/reports should be monitored and reviewed by on-site Non-BP engineers.
How come now more leakage flow rate x12 more even after the so-called capping/collecting oil operation started. 1000 barrels leaked at the start and now the leak flow rate is 60,000 barrels, what is the logic!!!
If BP is a British Company, what are the British doing about this.
