Hello Anderson, the only way to solve this old leak, is a heavy duty parashute with 4 anchor weights and a funnel pipe at the top of the the shute, with a pump attached or pumps, on the funnel pipe back to the ship...they know what i'am talking about.
In addition to a per barrel penalty let's set up a simple graduated time based penalty scale to pay for the disaster. On days 0 – 15 the additional penalty is $10M per day. Days 16 – 30 the penalty is $100M per day. Every two weeks the penalty’s increased 10 fold. This should help BP add to their own risk management plan a heightened sense of urgency and place an appropriate solution to failed safety violations. The money should go to Feds to divvy out to those most affected with 99% going to those in need (this also helps regulate politics). These are big boys who figured out how to make multi-billion dollar qtr profits. Let’s help them figure out an appropriate risk management plan.
For me,the Worst with all of this is, that we have so many new technocnologies which could dispense us from THAT OIL!!!!
@Nancy, that's a good question. Relief wells could be drilled close but not all the way to the main well. One problem, relief wells need to be sealed also and come with the risk of hitting pockets natural gas and oil.
Is the coast guard mapping underwater plumes? does the oil washing ashore indicate an underwater plume?
BP should come on the show. I think Rep Markey's pt about limiting liablility is a fair concern, but did have the impression from some reports that BP was aware they were putting forward an estimate. BP shld be concerned about he livability of people in the gulf.
Worrisome to hear about the pipe not possibly ftting and certainly cleaning up the oil hard physical work.
Good night everyone.
Why are we not "sucking" the oil (and plumes) out with tankers or "Super" tankers, then taking the soup back to a refinery
to seperate the oil from the seawater, Also what is happening
to Kevin Kosners "centrifuge" idea? We can not let these plumes
get into the gulf stream.
With the oil spreading, have any comments come from Mexico to protect their area of the Gulf of Mexico even though it is not there yet, they must be concerned too?
BP's attitude is so arrogant, why isn't the CEO and other people from BP looking at Venice to see what they are destroying. I know I will not be buying from BP stations.
Anderson.
I got sick on the BP excuses and false statements. This looks to me the same strategy Exxon made on the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1998 and of Amoco during the Amoco Cadiz oil spill in 1978.
The US government should freeze the US bank accounts of BP and pay all workers, ship owners and local fishermen, who lost their business and all costs for clean up from the BP accounts. BP sure will bring in a ton of lawyers scaring these peoples to dead, making them afraid of using their civil rights. President Obama should take the lead here and bring these BT guys to justice.
Good night Anderson and Gary, and bloggers Emily, Mike, Starr, Nancy, Nicole, and Megan.
Someone need to take the bull by the horns and blow to collapse that BP well now! My FCP parallel hole solution will work...so why are they waiting?
Didn't get a chance to comment tonight, but this was a very enlightening discussion.

Living along the coastline as I have my whole life people dont understand how detrimental this oil will be for the gulf of mexico it is a gulf killer! I am infuriated at the do nothing attitude of the Obama administration that just want to sit back and watch and baffle us with BS, there are many resources available to help contain the the oil from reaching our wetlands and beaches ie.. the corps of engineers, the Navy seabees, Marine Corps and Army combat engineers to build barrier islands to keep this oil away from the actual coast line then let the feds bill bp just my opinion.
Good Night every one!!!
Great discussion every one – Thank You Anderson and AC360 team as well.
Why hasn't BP brought in as many tankers they can get their hands on to use as giant oil/water separators out in the Gulf? Tether as many oil/water skimmers or other equipment to the tankers that pump the oil/ water mixture on the surface into the tanker, where it will separate. Then pump out (from the bottom of the tanker) the water, continue until filled with oil, and send to shore to unload. If BP won't get the tankers, the government should.
Good Night Everyone! Enjoy the night!
Hazardous waste handling and they are only paying 12 dollars per hour! Wow, that's outrageous but far to common with Corporate business's operating here in America.
What, more oil coming out...OMG! Until August? Please explain BP?
Emergency, emergency!!! Close Destin pass completely, to SAVE the WHOLE Chocataw Bay system, including all of Santa Rosa sound. The only totally saveable inland waterway in ALL of north Florida. Anderson please come to Okaloosa County before it's too late. Our pass is shallow & narrow it will be excuseless to not close the pass completely. Our pass can be closed off in a matter of days! Last and only safe haven in Northwest Florida. Our local leaders aren't treating this like an Emergency!
At this point, it's the oil company against America; its people, its resources and its environment. No matter how much money BP or any other company, gives to politicians, the federal government needs to break away from this company and others, that destroy the American public and America's lands and resources...
This oil spill just got worse, over 33,000 gallons per hour are now being spilled out thank to another BP blunder.
Won't all the oil have leaked out of the earth's surface by August. The Gulf Coast as we know it will be dead and gone. 🙁
Goodnight to you all.
