Tonight on 360°, we're keeping them honest along the Gulf coast. Last week, Pres. Obama promised to triple the oil cleanup crews. So, where is that manpower? Wait to you see what Gary Tuchman discovered today. Plus, all the day's developments on the spill.

4) No links

Another great show. Thank you to Anderson Cooper and staff!
What did ever happened to the clean up crew hired for presidents visit. Are they still there? how much oil spill was there in the 1970's oil spill from Ixtoc when compare to Valdez and deep horizon?
I dont like the idea of the cut and cap. why not try to loosen up the nuts/bolts from the top of the rizer where it is contencted to the bent pipe? loosen it and remove it.. then when installing the new cap you can have a way to secure it. as an original.... They hae the best engineers workinging on this?
Samantha, I agree with you. Clean up can be organized by government and coast guard, and the bills sent to BP. I'm also pretty sure, although I don't know a lot about wet lands, that marshes are delicate, too. Yes, the oil has to be cleaned up, but care has to be taken as well... as silly as this might sound.
Anderson. Criminal Prosecution is a distration from the fact that government has no idea what to do. Wyndham.
Perhaps if BP hired the thousands of people who were affected by the hurricane and left homeless, they might get some sympathy, if the gave back. They could hire them to help build sand barges to protect the marshes.
A couple of items,
1. if the reaction with the sea water created the frozen hydrates foul up the first containment attempt, why didnt they then just pump sea water into the well to create the same situation within the BOP and have the pipe 'freeze' up?
2. Why do they always want to continue to collect the oil from the BOP to the surface? Why not just unbolt the top connection of the riser at the BOP and bolt on a valve and shut it off?
3. Are they wanting to collect the oil in lieu of a shut off so that they keep getting oil production?
Thats all for now
Good night Anderson, Gary, and David, and bloggers Emily, Mike, Nicole, Starr and Megan.
Well, it was great sharing the comments, news and information and also learning some great opinions tonight.
As always a great evening and time worth spent here all.
Anderson, AC360 Team, Megan, Starr and all others – good night!!!
Again, this shows a company who puts profits before safety!!! If this company knows how to cut corners on standard practices, why should the federal government spare them on any front. Hurt them where it hurt the most- their pocket!
what are we going to do? This is crazy, there has to be something, my friend is losing his seafood business, how sad, this is so wrong.
Stop worrying about the money and who's to blame give us the 1200 or more workers you promised, now!!!!!
I heard there is a tanker used in the middle east that has special equipment to pickup the oil from the ocean and have it separated from the water at a land facility. Why aren't they using this tanker if it exists?
BP cut corners and took chances just like they did in Texas City. The government should have been watching BP very closely because of their terrible safety record and should not have been granting them any favors.
This is not just a U.S. disaster, this is a world disaster. If this was happening somewhere else in the world, United States would be all over it to tell any country that it was a world disaster. Because it's happening in United States you're saying its only affecting U.S. ... this is a world disaster. All country's should be involved in resolving this problem, it should be taken out of bp's hands ASAP and let the world help fix the problem.
Yes, the vip's of bp should be charged personally.
"Stop killing our wildlife!"
Thank you Anderson. Good show! Thank you CNN. Have a nice evening Everyone.
Good night. Sweet dreams.
I think the government and BP should have responded and paid attention to those red flags. If that had happened, we would not be in the place we are now
Good Night Everyone!
good to see yesterday a total recap of all what has happened...
(without blogging)
Good you are still there Anderson and keeping them honest!!
Hope James Carville is alright...
Good luck to everyone in the Gulf, i am thinking about you all!

Anderson,
Have a great night & good sleep at home after work!!!
See you tomorrow night!!! Just a plenty sleep at home!
Stay safe in NOLA!!!! HUGS!
Good night people...Please take it a day at a time.
Anderson – I have also heard that BP had arguments with maintenance people on the rig just a few hours right before the explosion
The government's responsibility is not to clean up the mess but to force the people responsible (BP) to clean it up. I hope BP is feeling a lot of pressure behind the scenes. They should face heavy penalties for failure to restore the gulf coast to some semblance of normalcy.
Hayward's "apology" – as arrogant as drilling without any safty/emergency measures. 11 people are dead – and he want's his life back... Spraying thousands of gallons of disbursants, who is cleaning all that up on the bottom of the ocean – same arrogance – what we don't see, we won't know?
Any idea where we can donate to – maybe Bird sanctuaries – helping out with Dawn, towels etc? Eventhough others are responsible, I still feel I need to do something.
Thanks for keeping them "honest"
Kind regards
bp has to close the break forever but greed won't let them.....
Good night AC360team and fellow bloggers.
Thank you for all the updates CNN and Anderson Cooper.
I will continue to pray for all who are suffering in the Gulf and for the families who lost their loved ones.
How do the boats with skimmers work?
What about using tankers to suck and separate the oil and water? Why no tankers?
Gloria – This is how long it takes to drill relief wells. This is the risk of drilling that far down in the ocean. There are safety measures, but like all safety measures, sometimes they fail. They try to make planes safe.. but still, planes go down. It does happen. This is the result. This is the very sad and tragic result, and if you are going to drill a mile down in the sea... sooner or later, this is going to happen. Now the price has to paid. Plain and simple.
Hey Anderson, You're doing a great job:-) Please be careful!
Put a cup full of diesel oil in the BP's exec swimming pool and we'll see a quick response. It's not until it's in your backyard when you realize how serious this problem is.
Why can't they encase the well in a larger structure like what is done with leakey sewer or water mains?
I had read that this blowout preventer had failed in the past.
Keep up the great reporting on this crisis. We can't look away now. Keep holding BP and the White House accountable. You guys own this story. Great work.
The slice and cap is not going to work. the top kill did not work they know it we needed that relief well last year and now August, August!!!!! Now we have even more oil gushing out.
Boycott BP
Look Obama we need help more help now.
I also have another concern here – BP burns all this oil then it will form vapor – with the storm season closing in, will it bring that kind of oily vapor all over the land?
If yes, what will happen to the land? I understand that the amount of oil might not be a lot, but, is it of some concern that the vapor from burnt oil will come back much more into the country with the rain?
As an engineer I find myself wanting to help with a solution for the BP oil spill. What I find troubling is that nowhere can I find schematics of the infamous blow out preventer or the current state of equipment on the sea floor. If BP were to share this information I am sure we find a solution in days not the weeks that we have taken so far. Get us the schematics.
Thanks Joe
nite all – just keep cleaning it up as it appears I guess
Tracy, I agree to a point that BP supposedly has the expertise to handle this crisis by capping the well. In conjunction with their efforts, other team are needed to corral the oil so it won't reach other shorelines. It will take many operations (clean up crews, wildlife crews, etc.) this summer to finally find resolution.
Thanks Anderson for the continued coverage!
David Mattingly has done a fabulous job covering this disaster from the beginning!
Thank you Anderson for another great show…When the days’ news seams like the whole world is spiralling down, and there is no end in sight…I am so thankful that you are there, making it real and bringing it home so that we can all be motivated into action.
@Tracy
You are correct only the experts that know this Business if Govt take it over they will have to come up with finding people who's going to try different methods same thing BP is doing..The fact of the matter is making sure they get the 2 relief wells built and put in place
Would putting Gen Honore in charge push Admiral Allen to the side? or can they both be working on solving this issue? It would be ideal if they can co-direct this mission.
this is experiment number what.....i lost count bp
what about the other rigs in the Gulf? How old are those pipes? And now they need to be fixed so this doesnt happen again!!!!
Why didn't they think of putting a cap on the leak before?! That is what I call one of those 'duh' moments.
I once met a very old engineer who had invented something like a large tube that could withstand underwater pressure. He intended it for use as an underwater tunnel for car travel and it was designed to be easily and quickly erected.
Bloggers,
I agree with all of you, Spike Lee is right about that, He knows that Oil spill is also disaster, too!!!
