Some people are pushing for the federal government to take the lead in the effort to stop the Gulf oil leak. But is that a good idea? The feds should have been involved at the very beginning.
I am Canadian and I am very concerned about this tragedy and the developments unfolding in the area.
I think the entire planet is concerned about this issue. Canada already offered its help by sending abroad scientists specifically trained in these disasters. I am certain many other countries offered to help.
FIrst of all, BP is not even paying 50% of the cost of the disaster, their insurance company is covering the most part and this will raise the price of insurance globally without a doubt. Already, BP is kind of off the hook. They showed sign of major negligence before, why would we expect them to be on top of their game during the recovery process.

That is an interesting report on Capt Phillips and the Maersk Alabama crew by Drew Griffin. Sounds possibly like the Capt was under pressure to make port at a certain time. How did shipping dispatch handle the warning received by captains.
