Roland is correct–no matter what evidence is presented to them that the President was born in the U.S., they won't let up. The issues they have with the President probably have nothing to do with where he was born, but the fact that he was able to get elected in the first place.

I can't believe that these birthers are back! Does that attorney realize how annoying he was.

I think "birthers" are just racists by another name...Has anyone ever brought this issue up before Obama?

Is there even a real belief in the birth issue...or are they grasping at straws, in their desperation to de-legitimize someone they dislike.

There is an original. Its the one the doctor signed thats in a file somewhere...

Does Hawaii only issues cert of live birth or do do they issue birth certs as well? As AC ever asked the Pres for his BC? I'm sure he was born in Hawaii why not show BC?

LTC Laken is wrong and he should be charged under the UCMJ.

I thought if a child is born to an American citizen that child is automaticly an American citizen. Wouldn't this be the case for President Obama.

They got what they wanted... their fifteen seconds of fame. Come on, there are so many important things that should be covered instead of this nonsense

I am a political science major, and all of my professors have instructed me to ask the "why" in everything political. So as I watch this headline about the President's birth certificate I want to know why are there a percentage of people who believe that he is not an American citizen?

    May 10, 2010 at 10:16 pm |
  13. Gail (former US Army Staff Sergeant)

Anderson, the lawyer is correct when he said it's not an issue for the Chief of Staff to be a natural born citizen. It is however, a requirement to be President of the US.

I think the Lt. Col. is afraid to go back and is trying to save his butt now. Why dignify this group with airtime?

Wasn't McCain born on American soil (in Panama) on a Military Base?
It was not "another Country", was it?

I know that there are those that are born on Military bases over seas & are given American Citizenship for their parents were out of the country serving it.

  15. Steve

Does anyone know where the president's birth certificate is?

    May 10, 2010 at 10:16 pm |
  16. Zinah

Anderson, I appreciate the way you handled the so called military officer that refuses to serve his country because of Obama's birth certificate. People serve their country for the love of the nation not just because of who is in the white house. This is a shame.

    May 10, 2010 at 10:16 pm |
  17. Cassandra

It was obvious this is just a way for the attorney to get his fees paid while he drags this out. I found it even more discerning that this military doctor didn't have enough sense to realize he is being used (unless he is getting paid to do this too).

  18. Anthony Adewumi

It is ridiculous that America is debating on whether Obama was born in the USA or not. Those two men that AC just interviewed are a disgrace to the American people. The birthers are just still upset that an African American is president. It all boils down to racism, which is ignorance.

While no lawyer, it seems the ABSENCE of proof of a live birth is NOT proof that it DID NOT occur. The Hawaiian certificate, I believe, attests to a live birth in Hawaii and would thus seems legitimate.

  20. Chris

Did I read your screen correctly, that contributions to that birther support fund are tax deductible? If that's a charity, then I'm Albert Einstein and Harvard should be calling any day now.

@ Mike, it would be mutiny thanks. It seems as previously mentioned any true evidence would be disavowed by the 'birthers'.

When I was born and when my children were born in the state of Idaho the birth certificate we are given are the state ones. The certificate we are given in the hospital are not even filled out anymore. So if my daughter was president would they not accept the legal birth certificate since the one given in the hospital isn't even sighned?

@Emily, a Court Martial is a military criminal trial. If found guilty penalties can include imprisonment, dishonorable discharge, fines, demotion, or a combination thereof.

Anderson, thank you for nailing these two imbeciles.
I wonder why previous Presidents were never asked for their birth certificates. This army doctor should be discharged. This whole birther movement is getting ridiculous and is an embarrassment for the country.

You are so Right!! I was born to a military family and my sister was born in Hawaii when it was a territory-She's American-because her parents Are American (and Hawaii became a state.)

Thanks for pointing this apparently not well known fact out.

Maybe the Birthers could spend some time on helping out with say the oil spill in the Gulf-MUCh better use of their and our time!

The physician needs to get a grip. This is not the forum for questioning the birth of the president. The physician is a coward and does not want to honor his oath to defend our nation and is a traitor. Simple as that. He should go to jail and because he is a traitor and in jail should lose his right to practice medicine.

Just a question, but can you obtain a driver's license anywhere in the country with that same certificate of live birth issued in Hawaii?

    Evening Anderson

Lt Col Laken, should do prison time for his failing to follow orders over this. He is betraying his country and his hippocratic oath as a Doctor. The birthers are a load of idiots period!!

YES! Thank you! It doesn't matter where President Obama was born – his mother was a US citizen which confers citizenship automatically on her child.

I don't think I've heard such a stupid argument since the jr. High schooyard.

    May 10, 2010 at 10:14 pm |
  32. Tracey Duncan

I served under the first Bush and I never once questioned his citizenship. I cannot believe someone would throw away their career for something he will never prove. You think he is seeking his 15 minutes of fame? WOW!

    May 10, 2010 at 10:14 pm |
  33. Lee

Yay, Anderson! These "birther" people need to get a real issue.

    May 10, 2010 at 10:14 pm |
  34. Sue

Why doesn't anyone bring up the fact that John McCain was born in Panama? These bigots wouldn't be having this stupid discussion if he were president. It's all racially based and they need to be called out on it.

    May 10, 2010 at 10:14 pm |
  35. Ron

Why cant the issue be resolved as the guest suggests, one piece of paper and the argument is undisputedly dissolved

Lakin is toast if this guy is his lawyer. Anderson took him down several times and should that he is a poor excuse for a defender. Also, Lakin is a disgrace to the uniform and his family. Resign . Now he will be court martialed and dismissed. I hope he loses his pension for this stunt to keep from deploying.

I think Gupta needs to give that military MD some knowledge of being a doctor...and what a doctor's roles are.

And, hello everyone. It's been a while since I did the live-blog thing!

That fool questioning Mr. President Obama's birth records? Where did the respect go to our leaders? Our President doesn't need this negative publicity but support on the issues he's trying to fix.

What are these people wanting? Is that not the original birth certificate? Is there a such thing as an ORIGINAL, original birth certificate. It makes no sense.

I just have a thought – if there was anything wrong with Obama's birth certificate – why did Bush and Cheney not use this during the last part of the presidential election – if there was any truth to this conspericy – don't you think they (Bush/Cheney) would have loved to drop that bomb – that would have given the Republicans the Presidency – I just have a simple thought

It's so hard to watch the program tonight, this attorney is so bogus. How can he not be disbarred? And his client...even more pathetic. AC, I don't know how you you do it – I couldn't interview such ignorant individuals. I wish they'd get a life!

Good evening Anderson, Isabel, Emily, Starr, Megan, everyone.

How does the lawyer respond to the point that Hawaii Certificate of Live Birth is accepted by the Federal government? Doesn't a candidate file credentials of eligibility when becoming a candidate? Why is that not sufficient?
