'South Park' Security Threat: Join the Live Chat

[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/02/liveblogfinal.copy.jpg]

Tonight on 360°, reports that security is beefed up outside the offices of Comedy Central after a radical Muslim web site takes on the creators of  'South Park' for depicting the Prophet Mohammed in a bear-suit.  Plus, an up close look at an Oregon church that shuns traditional medicine for "faith healing." Authorities say it's led to preventable deaths.  We'll also take you to Connecticut where two doctors are suing so they can help patients die with dignity.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

@ Nancy You must remember that the good doctors have medications to help patients to "Zoom, Zoom!" right out of the suffering!

Still can't understand Sarah Palin's speech pattern. She seems incapable of formulating her thoughts into sentances.

It is distressing that Ms Ali has to be at undisclosed location. I strongly feel that South Park and Comedy Central are well with their rights to air those South Park episodes if they so choose. I do feel that it would great if we could ratchet down the tensions even more internationally that that would help.

Amazing that purchases of new homes are up 26 percent.

There are wider impacts to society and medicine to allowing physican assisted suicide. I would think it undermines medical practice and shouldn't be allowed.

That imterviewee just quoted the expression that causes religious extremism "We are god's chosen people". That is the thinking that makes them think they are above the law due to their religious affiliation. Whether Catholics church protecting child abusers, islamic terrorists or self righteous protestant groups imposing their will.

  24. Emily

    @Nicole The Netherlands,
I think that the bit from the South Park cartoon, where they beeped it, was very funny...perhaps not all would "get it"...it was not so 'in your face'.
It's very tragic what happened over there...No one should die because of a Cartoon. Outrageous! Taking things way too far & I think most Muslims would agree.

    April 23, 2010 at 10:51 pm |
  25. Karoline, Los Angeles

    @ Mike-It's not even a religion. It's an addiction.

You can have faith in God, but you need to have faith in medicine also.

I guess it depends on how Kevorkian defines suffering. Does it mean any suffering even if it doesn't necessarily end in death?

    April 23, 2010 at 10:48 pm |
  30. Nancy in Oregon

Absolutely, charlie....religious extremism is not limited to Islam. Christianity has had its fair share of shameful extremism. I don't even want to think about the Crusades.

    April 23, 2010 at 10:48 pm |
  31. Linda in Arizona

And here is our local religious insanity. Watch out for anyone calling themselves, "God's chosen". They're insane.

    April 23, 2010 at 10:48 pm |
  32. Emily

    @Jonas Rasch, Norway,

"You just asked on CNN International why islam is the only religion we can't make fun of in America."

I just read your post...I wonder if those of use that are Christians were not at ease with these Cartoons, etc, it would not be different?
I remember when it was illegal to shop on Sundays!

Sadly, ignorance kills more and more every day than knowledge ever could.

What kind of religion is this?

    April 23, 2010 at 10:46 pm |
  35. charlie

The church on Oregon story is another illustration of the dangers of religious extremism. This time christianity.

@Gloria, sometimes dying "naturally" can be horrifically painful. It is a cruel thing to witness.

@Nancy, well said about dignity and especially Respect.

  37. Nancy in Oregon

I don't think you need to be so fearful Miranda. I wish fear didn't rule so many people when it comes to terminal illness and dying.

Why aren't these parents turned into Child Protective Services? Do they hide from outsiders?

@ Starr, thanks for saying that! it gives so much peace of mind to people

    @Mike, formerly from Syracuse,

"My daughter is a police officer and has done so many times. Once when the person stopped pulled out their ID a bag of dope fell out too!"

That's a very interesting story about what happened with your daughter.
I can only imagine the things that she sees on the job. I'd have many sleepless nights if I were her mother.

    April 23, 2010 at 10:44 pm |
  41. Nancy in Oregon

Oh I hope not, Gloria, when 'naturally' entails suffering.

    April 23, 2010 at 10:43 pm |
  42. Vincent Flores

As flustering a concept as assisted suicide is or even denial of life saving drugs to children, we have always tried to limit suffering no matter what religion, race, sex, culture, creed or age.

the doctor should go to jail in any state for instance im on Oxycontin the highest painkiller there is if my doctor who swore an oath to protect all human life was okay with me taking the whole bottle even though just three 80 mg would put me into a coma that is irreversible if he was okay with that it is just wrong where do you draw the line even suicide people could claim they should be able to die where do you draw the line to me the line should never be drawn in the first place. Enough said.

If I had family members working at comedy central I would be less self righteous about their decision. Thay have a right and maybe an obligation not to endanger their employees.

    April 23, 2010 at 10:43 pm |
  45. Nancy in Oregon

Oh I think there is, Emily. I think dignity is a state of mind and has to do with the way one is being treated. Respect has a huge part to play in dignity.

    April 23, 2010 at 10:42 pm |
  46. Starr, formerly known as vincent

Dying with dignity, to me, means a person has control over how and when they die. Instead of suffering, sometimes for long periods of time.

I hope thses docs (&all docs who want to) win their law suits to assist patients with dying with dignity.

    April 23, 2010 at 10:41 pm |
