The issues of attachment disorder that surround adoption need to come to the forefront. Not only in cases that involve adoptions from foreign orphanages, but in domestic adoptions as well. We adopted our daughter domestically. We brought her home to us at 10 days old. She suffers quite severly from attachment issues that surfaced early in her teens. She is 16 now and is at a residential treatment center in Utah that caters to girls with these issues. It is a very REAL condition that can exist in ANY type of adoption. People need to be educated about this condition. Our daughter was misdiagnosed several times before we got to the heart of the matter. She has been away from us for just under a year now, and while we miss her so much each and every day, we know she will emerge healthy and strong with a bright future ahead of her.
