I know people with biological children can be evil, but people who adopt that should be an even deeper commitment!! I have the reverse experience...verbal and physical abuse from adoptive parent. I was 4 when I was adopted, one of 4 adopted and 2 foster and 4 that lived with us. I am 57 years old and disconnected 5 years ago finally after I received a letter from my mother that said she wish she'd never taken any of us in. That was many years, and still of mental abuse...
This happens in the US also. I work in child welfare, people give their adopted kids back some times and some times they ever want to give us their biological kids. Yes of course it is abandonment. Duh! But the finding in the Russian child's case would be neglect.
I can sympathize with the adoptive parents disappointments and
hardships with trying to deal with a disturbed child.
But to lose sight of that child's humanity is even more disturbing.
It is definitely a reflection of the guardians character. I just hope
that it is not a reflection of broader issues that we face in this
society.
