Bullies & Victims: Join the Live Chat

[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/02/liveblogfinal.copy.jpg]

Tonight on 360°, we're looking for answers in the suicide of a Massachusetts high school student. Prosecutors say bullies drove Phoebe Prince to take her own life. Some are saying the school completely missed the trouble. You'll hear from the principal. We're keeping them honest. Plus, Pres. Obama's new plan for offshore drilling. Is he flip-flopping from comments he made on the campaign trail and we continue our week-long series 'Scientology: A History of Violence".

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

It's more like Stall, Baby, Stall – this "drilling" is a political ploy to leave an impression of drilling with a gullible public.

Notice how scientology does not spend time refuting all the allegations the critics make, from fairgame, disconnection, child labor, etc....

They spend the entire time speaking of the "crimes" of the critics.

    Fairgame in action, folks.

Where in the world is the Massachusetts statute that requires school boards to develop policies on bullying?? I am retired from the MN Dept of Ed and MN has required schools to develop bullying policies for years. No principal in MN would EVER get by with what these people in this school are.

If you think that only young kids are being bullied at school,
No! Too bad some adults are still being bullied at the workplace and still these adults are allowing themselves to be bullied.

Yingling says that beatings were handled internally. What if the beaten person wanted to press charges? Would scientology allow it?
    NO WAY
And the beaten person would be put in an ethics condition or RPF for trying to put the cult into disrepute.

When a person is attacked, the cult should not get to decide if charges are filed.

It makes sense what the church is saying as in Rathbun is lying. you have to understand that these people were essentially fired and kicked out from the church for what they had done. So yes they will be bitter and lie. Its not that far fetched, think about the lady that was fired from her supermarket job recently that when in with a gun and opened fire.. sorta the same thing.

Congratulations to the District Attorney n charging these nine bullies. After removing my daughter from a small, private school that failed to take any action over three years of my telling them of the bullying, the school finally took some action. The bullies were the most lauded and popular girls in the class and had completely hoodwinked the teachers and administrators. We have never experienced such pain and were fortunate enough to get my daughter counseling and she was accepted to one of the finest prep schools in the country. Our only mistake was not taking legal action because after years of learning about bullying, I believe this is the only way schools and parents of bullies and those who are by-standers (enablers) will get it. Please keep covering this story – bullying is epidemic.

I feel awful for the parents of the Carmichael boy. Hopefully other parents will learn from them. They said they didn't know how bad it was. They didn't know the names he was called. If anything can be learned it is that parents need to talk to their children.

I agree. Bullying is so widespread & it's not getting nearly enough attention. In fact, there are some that think it's just a part of life now as it's so prevelent! 🙁

My perception is that these spokespeople for the Church of Scientology lack credibility. They are way too excited and just don't appear rational in a believable way.

David Miscavige won't speak for himeself.. that way he won't get caught in any lies... he lets others lie for him.. he is a coward for sure

I think the president's decision to drill was made based on two goals. The first, is to minimize our dependency on foreign oil. The second is to indirectly stimulate our economy. Think of how many jobs this process will offer, and how much money the US can save on oil and natural gas. Ultimately, If we can use our treasures why reach out to other nations?

Some school districts do very well in establishing a more supportive overall atmosphere. I imagine they have much cooperation and involvment of parents.

Bullying creates alienation and isolation. That is the spiritual death that proceeds the physical death. No one chooses suicide – -it's what people use when pain exceeds their ability to manage it.

How do these people sleep at night?
I don't understand how whoever it is lying about the violence can live with themselves spewing lies over and over and over on national tv.

most of the time we seem to rely on facts to prove things – sometimes lack of facts to disprove things can be just as meaningful. person A can say 'prove it', and person B can say 'unprove it'. it is humorous in an ironic kind of way.

I can't beleive i'm going to suggest this, given how much we All pay in school taxes...But, perhaps in shcools affected by bullying, parents need to hire private security to monitor what goes on on school grounds.

I still don't have an answer as to how to protect children on the bus, or walking home, or who are harrassed thru social media.

Apparently some laws need to be changed so that school districts, teachers and administrators can be held Liable legally for the actions of known bullies.

  50. P James

Bullies, Why? The answer is simple, the bullies get away with it. Folks, when your child get phisically bullied at school it is not bullying, it is assault. If your child is assaulted at school ( I am sorry bullied) get your child a lawyer. You just might be saving your childs life. If your child is assaulted outside of school call the police and press charges.
