Why doesn't the US send the fema trailers from Katrina to Haiti. Seems to me they could use them during the rainy season.

i am mostly curious about the situation with the landowners outside of the city – is it a political problem? internal or international? money-compensation based?

there needs to be this urban development, doesn't there, in order for things to progress. it seems to makes so much sense to develop in these areas – what is(are) the major obstacle(s)?

how come in the haiti piece nobody had a dirt skirt , shirt or pants with all that mud around . Even all the kids they showed were completely clean

    March 30, 2010 at 10:53 pm |
  30. TT, Los Angeles

I am shocked at the situation in Haitti. After all the money that was donated, there's no excuse for 1.2 million people to live in tarps. On top of it they're expected to clear up the rubble should they go home?! What was the money used for? So sad. So nice of Sean Penn to help.

    March 30, 2010 at 10:53 pm |
  31. Kenya

So where is all the donated money to Haiti and what is it being used for? Is it just sitting in a fund? It's completely worthless to Haiti if thats the case.

Is there any way CNN can contact Shipping Companies to see if there is a possibility of getting people off the land and onto a ship anchored off the city so that two things can happen.

    1. They are spared from the rain season until things can be built for them to return to and are out of the way so to speak.

    2. Those who can remain behind can rebuilt Haiti to get things moving

It is easier to load supplied ot a boat and spread out than it is to do so with so many obstacles on roads ... in Haiti

Where has all the money went?

Church of scientology series is very interesting,,I watched last night and this evening and I don't see you attacking the church in any way.The leaders of the church have so much power that I'm sure the ex- members have gone through some serious bullying where it has made it pretty hard for them to come forward with some of these accusation's.

if hate crime legislation is so hard to pass how on earth can we ever hope to get anti-bullying laws passed? I taught school for several years and tried to teach my students what they needed to be successful to pass their subjects and standardized tests so I could keep my job. I never ignored it if I saw children being mean to another child but there is only so much one person can do with 20-30 kids coming from all different homes. I once told a student that they shouldn't use the "n word" because it was insulting and his mother informed me that I couldn't tell him that because it was cultural and not my place. A thousand teachers can't replace a parent, it always starts at home!!!

Thanks for the update on Haiti, people like myself are still interested in this issue, even if others have moved onto other news.

My mother (an RN) and I have been looking to volunteer in Haiti but still trying to find an organization/group to go through- if anyone has any suggestions or information to help us it is greatly appreciated.

Glad to see that Sean Penn is still actively helping on the ground in Haiti!

On school bullying it is clearly the responsibility of the schools' administrations and parents to cap this phenomenon.. Candidly, school administrators ought to be held more accountable, indeed prosecuted, for them to begin to seriously regard this as a crime. Children spend a significant portion of their waking day at schools and they must be trusted to deliver the values and education we expect. Focused leadership and fair adjudication can inhibit this behaviour. There is no reason any parent should have to face this reality or any humiliation of their child or their neighbour's to suicide. Our son endured it in the Japanese school system where this is endemic and no leadership was then exercised. I am horrified that this can happen in America today especially after some precedence. Where is the leadership?

    March 30, 2010 at 10:51 pm |

@Karoline, Yes I agree it does have to do with the culture and atmosphere in the schools. There are many chances to intervene.
