Why is bi-partisnship even seen as desirable. It just muddies the acountability and creates endless political dealing.

They have to fight, remember the Waterloo statement? The Republicans are still trying to discredit the president however they can...the Dems MUST stick together on this.

Of course the Healthcare bill is bipartisan – the Democrats are bipartisan. They captured the middle and have to satisfy a much broader spectrum of political viewpoints (hello bluedogs). The rump Republican Party can posture all it wants to – but they do NOT represent most Americans. And, as one – I want this healthcare bill!

i thought that pres. obama had adopted the idea of selling ins. across state lines when they had the summit. did i hear wrong?

Good evening Anderson, Isabel, Emily, Starr, Megan, everyone.

Those voting numbers are all over the place. How to account for discrepancy btwn the "yes" votes reported by the New York Times and Washington Post?

Some fireworks there in the house. Given the last minute push it's not too surprising.

well i think i'll be trying to keep up on the hilights of this vote this weekend. i'm not sure yet if it's like watching a train-wreck or democracy in action.

@Jane – WI, "So why not just work on the parts of the bill where there is agreement?"

Why not pass those parts of the bill and work out the rest later?

    @Starr

It's important to help and raise awareness the people that any help is significant for the Haitian people.

@Mike, formerly from Syracuse, If it can't pass with a legitimate up or down vote, start over and get agreement on things everyone wants."

I agree, if it can't pass with a legitimate vote then it doesn't deserve to pass.

Thanks Ed for pointing out that the Republican changes accepted have been token. I'm sick of hearing how bipartisan Obama has been, when in fact this bill has been a Democratic show the whole way.

Being able to buy insurance from other States seems like a much simper idea, however, that is clearly "naive", as it's not an option.

    March 19, 2010 at 10:11 pm |
  19. Jane - WI

So why not just work on the parts of the bill where there is agreement?

misleading commercials, lies from all kinds of reps and sens, now a fake memo....

this whole issue has, as dana said, become ugly. why can't we have medical reform so that this nation's people can receive medical help?

I know some of us disagree, but this is at least a starting point, modifications can be made as we go forward.

    March 19, 2010 at 10:09 pm |
  21. Tim

Well it looks like the good guys are winning; Health Care reform should be law in short order. And boy are those insurance companies desperate; running ads calling the Dems sleazy. Well after bribing the entire Republican party and cutting people off their insurance when they get sick, after a lifetime of paying in, they are certainly the undisputed experts in sleaze.

The Democrats are not interested in working across the aisle. When you create the bill behind closed doors, that is not bi-partisan.

  25. Kathryn- Plym Mtg, PA

Republicans/Democrats. Are there any Americans voting?

Do you bloggers think the bill will pass?

    March 19, 2010 at 10:08 pm |
  27. Sharon Hastings

Good evening everyone. I hope you all have a great weekend. It's a fight to the finish on the health care bill. I think it will pass but then what happens after that? I guess it's healthy if everyone is heard and fights for what they believe in but will this vote be the end of it?

    March 19, 2010 at 10:07 pm |
  28. Emily

    @Mike,
It seems that this bill gets "messier" & messier" as they come closer to the vote! Coincidence?

    March 19, 2010 at 10:07 pm |
  29. Susan, NJ

No one can answer why we need "exchanges" when with 1300 insurance companies in the US, we just need competition between state lines.

  30. Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA

    Starr,

Agreed! I feel pain for Haiti..... Hope they are doing as well. I am glad Sean Penn is there in Haiti. 🙂

    March 19, 2010 at 10:07 pm |
  31. Jane - WI

The public doesn't want this bill.....what about that don't Democrats understand? Democrats tell us that the public likes certain parts of health insurance reform. Why is it, then, that Democrats refuse to pass just those parts of the bill, which could probably get bi-partisan support? It seems that it is the Democrats way or the highway. So much for a new tone.

Planned Parenthood's research arm said with public funding that abortions will increase by 30%. Wexler said this is good because it will mean fewer children. Sickening.

Kill the bill. It's a mess. If it can't pass with a legitimate up or down vote, start over and get agreement on things everyone wants.
