The term "alter boy" has has been a double entendre for decades. It show an apalling lack of empathy for the boys thus abused, but it has not been any secret, just mystification about why priests and bishops seem to be above the law.
@JoAnn, I dont think the priests need to admit they are addicted to sex, its just they need to admit what they did. They are told that they are not supposed to do what their bodies and nature says and so instead of keeping their hands to themselves (not meant to sound the way it does) they are abusing these kids and thats the part that is not right.
@A. Smith, the report said the evidence shows the pope didn't know, so why do you assume he did?
Chances are this priest is not an isolated case. There are probably more out there who were protected by Benedict.

Osama has openly stated that he will Not be taken Alive! He has apparently ordered his body guards to kill him before he can be captured.
The catholic church will never allow the pope to take the blame for any wrongdoing because their dogma dictates that the pope is God's representative here on earth, the pope is holy and infallible, and his word supercedes Scripture. Bleh! Disgusting!
This story just sickens me...the sexual abuse and cover ups in the Catholic church. I can't understand why they do all these cover ups. Don't they find these actions wrong. I know they don't want the church to look bad, but they look so much worse when they cover up these abuse cases and it later comes out.
@Gloria, but I think those things are additions as well and not conveniences. For some people, these things lead to addiction; fortunately not for most.

Used to be a alter boy at the Catholic church in my town. No doubt celibacy causes problems. 1 Timothy 4:3 lists "forbiding to marry" as a teaching of demons. "Wisdom is proved righteous by its works" as Jesus said.
This has been happening for 1600 years since they made priests celibate in 400AD
I think sex offenders and perverts are created by absenist. Sex is a natural behavior in humans. People who are incarcerated are becoming more and more violent in and out of prison. Someone should do a study on how many sexual predators was incarcerated before their first encounter. We already know sexual abuse is very high among priest.
Pope Ratz appears to have instructed Cardinals to move clergy accused of being pedophiles to other non-suspecting parishes where they repeated their preditation on new children.
I'm sorry how long can the military now hold detainees?

Wasn't the issue of child abuse an issue that was brought up when this priest was made Pope?
I remain sickened that the Church handled ALL of these cases so badly and that the children suffered.

This is shameful... The scandal threatens the pope because in 1980, when Archbishop of Munich, he accepted that his archdiocese received a pedophile priest in northern Germany.
Pope Ratz appears to be present in the cover up and movement of serial pedophiles within the Vatican and outlining parishes.
Wasn't the churche's whole philosophy until things blew up, to cover up everything? Move priests around, not record anything in writing, etc. Why would we think that the pope when a bishop would do otherwise?

Yes I think Tiger should come back,,golf is not the same...Don't think people should critisize so much,, how many skeletons do they have in their closets that we don't know about. I certainly don't condon what he did. I think he was sincere in his apology.
The Catholic church has been in utter disgrace for decades already and remains so. Why are there not massive criminal prosecutions for those who sheilded the paedophiles over many decades.

There were a few priests here that were charged with sex abuse. Its amazing how many there really are that do not make the news

If sex is an addiction, then ignorance is a widespread disease in this country. Impulse control is something you learn in kindergarten. Give me a break.

Theres alot of people that agree with me but some people try to hide the truth and keep peoples statements silent because there a bunch of single minded people with there own views .
Maybe there needs to be a better screening process on becoming a priest. It sickens me what "men of god" do to children.

I so happy to hear about the changing of the 96 hr rule!!! I hope it'll help soldiers gather more evidence. But I really hope there is oversight and the extended time frame is used wisely.

Good question I'm also curious... if there is no emotion involved then I wouldn't say Woods is an addict because he told some of those girls that he loved them. He's more of a womanizer IMO.
Why asumeTiger is a sicko. Maybe Benoits book can help enlighten and educate us. Tiger needs to be left alone. We need to accept and educate ourselves. Who gave any of us the right to judge another. Leave Tiger alone. Lets focus on tolerence and accept anothers attempt to go
on with their life, and set about just worrying about what we are doing with ours.
