Darn time change!!! In class during first hour of program. Oh well.

I normally love AC360 but really why give air time to John Edwards mistress?

Even though they're both to blame for the affair, Rielle Hunter seems a bit delusional about her current relationship with John Edwards.

Good evening Anderson, Isabel, Emily, Starr, Megan, everyone.

I'm sorry can anyone tell me what numbers from the CBO congress is waiting for?

What can be done in12 yr to lower costs to make needed drugs available? How much profit will drug companies make to recoup costs in 7yrs for production of biologicals?

@Ms. Best.....excellent commentary! It is such a shame that we could not get universal healthcare in the country.

The Congressional Budget Office's estimates are being misused in all conversations in the media. These estimates only tally the cost to the government, not the public. So legislation could reduce the deficit (in the long run), but have a very negative impact (e.g., higher drug costs) on the public.

    March 15, 2010 at 9:10 pm |
  18. Claus

@A. Smith, it would be good if everyone could become familiar with the guidelines for obtaining fee drugs from pharmaceutical companies. The income thresholds are impressively liberal for some of the companies, to the point that some older people would be better off not to sign up for Med D, pay $5 for their generics and obtain their brands free.

The second pill costs pennies to produce. The first pill costs $1 billion for R&D, testing and the approval process. Who do you propose pays for that?

There is no difference between the two parties with the legalize bribery. How can we get public financing if the ones who have to vote on it are the crooks and cheat in congress

Well over 90% of ALL Rx drugs which Big Pharma sells for many hundreds of dollars per monthly refills, cost Big Pharma mere pennys to produce. It is utter hyprocracy to hold American's health hostage to hyper-expensive Big Pharma markups.

    March 15, 2010 at 9:07 pm |
  28. Sharon Hastings

Good evening everyone. Hope you all had a great weekend. I guess I do understand that the research and development of these drugs costs a huge amount of money for a number of years. And yes the cost is passed onto the consumer. I'm not totally shocked. Having said this the generics argument seems fair. Hope there is a compromise. I'm sure this close to the end there are any number of compromises or "deals" being made.

    March 15, 2010 at 9:07 pm |
  29. Mike, formerly from Syracuse

If a new drug costs $1 billion, and not every drug is approved, I can see that the industry needs some protection from generics until they recoup their investment. The question is how long?

good evening anderson & team 360

hello everyone (my caps are not working right)

    March 15, 2010 at 9:06 pm |

It is ridiculous to think a biologic should have only a 7 year patent. A patent should be of no less length than the time it takes to develop a drug. And no thanks when it comes to a generic on biologic.

Only the US Govt. can lawfully force Big Pharma to charge less on their drugs which is exactly what Canada and many other countrys have done. American's are subsidizing the lower costs in Canada by hyper-markups to American's.

    Hi Anderson,
With regards to your healthcare dilemma in the US, I think it was Ghandi that said that 'the measure of a society was in the way it looked after its weakest members'.....right now you could measure the value of American society with a 6 inch ruler! In addition, on our worst day, Canadians have an unbelievable healthcare system, and a longer life expectancy than people in the US. There's a reason why every industrialized nation on earth has universal healthcare...it is right.
