Does Haiti need additional money to get shelter for all these people or is all the money that has been donated not been released to give these people aid?
Good Evening Everyone,
Doing the right thing by Haiti –
Shelter, money, the Haitian government doing the right thing. I truly wish this gets worked out. 3 months later, there are still many of us concerned.
Myself, along with a group of other fitness instructors will be donating our talents and time for a fitness benefit next month. The particulars of having all funds donated to the American Red Cross was just confirmed on Monday. I unsettles me to think money raised from this upcoming event may never reach the Haitian citizens.
Rather than give huge sums of money to a corrupt Haitian government to build shelters, why not allocate money to US contractors to build the shelters. This would help both the Haitian population and provide needed construction jobs for American workers.
Use the fema concept–flat house. Ship the material and Haitians would gladly help build their own.
In addition:
There are other Hotels outside of the city. Is it possible to use these as a temporary solution. Is it possible to use the FEMA
I think its amazing what Sean is doing for Haiti, its wonderful. Its sad but it has a natural disaster for the world to come together like this. Its great.
why cant the United States temporilary loan to Haiti the trailers that were destined to the people in Katrina. Surley they are sill housed somewhere.....Thank You.
The radical Muslims seem to be able to do whatever it takes to succeed in their cause.
I think Sean Penn put his finger on the reason for the great interest and response in the US toward Haiti...it is 90 minutes away from us. Places like Rawanda must just sound as far as the moon.
Go Carlos!!!
I just can not believe that there is not more being done in a orderly/timely fashion for these poor people,what is the goverment waiting for??Now the rainy season, so what is the hold up?? another diaster???It blows my mine and thought process.
We gave money in many different ways here in the U.S. to aid these people and looks like they have not received or seen any benifit from these donated dollars.Tell Us what is the problem?? and hold up???
SOMEONE DO SOMETHING FOR THESE POOR SOULS IN NEED. PLEASE HELP THEM...
Sean Penn has done incredible work in Haiti. Your interview has been fascinating.
What a brave little boy!
@ David, Indiana
What a great post! You are so right! Where is the shelter!
Yes, i checked into actual geodesic homes and it is feasible and necessary.
As i said last night, i contacted the Clinton Foundation to ask if that type of housing would be considered in the future for Haiti.
Thank you Sean for doing everything you do. You not only give your own money to each and every cause that is needed. You also are there personally doing hands on work.
Unfortunately the Haitian government is extremely corrupt. No matter who is left in charge. It's part of the culture and unless the US administers the funds, food, clothing etc...it will disappear into the black market.
Anderson you and Sean or doing such a great job trying to help the people of hati may god bless you both
Thanks Anderson for this Haiti update!!
@Jo Ann,
"I can't help but wonder how many Haitian people could be fed on what it cost to throw one of those wasteful Oscar parties."
That is an interesting thought!
I wonder if any one at any of them were doing a fund raiser or something? ...not likely, I'm sure in their borrowed outfits, and jewellery!
I think to many people keep talking about Haiti. When bed thinks are going on right here in the USA. Dont get me wrong my Lord Jesus sad help my people. At the same time you need to use wisdom in your help.
Haiti – unimaginable suffering. A nation that had nothing before the quake now, somehow, has even less. God bless those that have been touched by it and those that are helping. Godspeed.
Anderson – besides the raining season, the hurricane season starts in June and as we know the makeshift tents are pretty much excess flying objects in a hurricane; no match for the stormy rains and therefore cannot provide any form of protection. I just hope that all these factors are being considered in some sort of a plan.
I used to volunteer with a group called Corazon. They build housing for poor families in Mexico and can finish a house per day. They use the same set of plans over and over.
Sean Penn is so right about the situation in Haiti
I spent a short time in CapHaiten at the end of January. The needs are great outside Port au Prince for small hospitals in process of building to accomodate patients repatriated to Haiti. Please keep the Haiti appeal alive...there are years of rehab ahead for people with injuries that need care for months and years ahead. How can we get connected to Sean Penn to keep this area being revitalized alive to accomodate people in need of rehab and would care?
Bernie
the world has givin enough money, we should not pay for the money that is stolen. why should we give more when the people of haiti are stealing it?
@ David, Indiana yes Oregon Domes has shipped hundreds and hundreds of heavy geodesic domed tents to the Haitian people that should hold up in severe storms that are expected to hit Haiti in June-July.
Even worse, all those people Americans helped save will be homeless and sick and many will die just because they lack some inexpensive prefab housing!
@Emily,
Thx! When you endured so much in life, somehow you become more and more resilient to situation like the one happening right now in Haiti. It seems like it never gets better for us, no matter how hard we try. We always preparing ourselves for the worst. I know it's hard to believe, but that's how it is in my homeland.
Apart from the rainy season creating another disaster in Haiti, hurricane season starts end June. It might be an idea for the Haitian government to step aside for a time so that more competent people can pull that country together again. Money is continually pumped into Haiti and it remains dysfunctional.
I have great respect for Mr. Penn, but I would like the aid mone to stay as far away from Preval as possible....don't trust him.
the gove't and the NGO have a conflict of interests. They need the people on the ground to justify getting money.
we must get other willing gov't to accept the haitian people in their country and use our donations in these countries. Please stop messing around with the people's livelihood. Somebody help. Senegal want to take in haitians, ant there are others. we must start this dialogue now!!
what would it take for those responsible for getting the money out there to provide temporary homes, food, clothing? I'm just curious as I have never been to Haiti, what is being done to provide education for the children? are there temporary school built?
This is becoming a nightmare!
Hello everyone. I really enjoy your reporting Anderson. Keep up the outstanding work!
It's great to see Sean Penn stepping up to the plate in this effort.
@emily~ yes, tragic and yet so much work left to do.
a lot of people may afraid that their donations might not Really be going to help the people,,how can they be sure of this?
@Cessy,
"Where are the money that were donated?"
That is something that I have been asking since DAY #1!
I've heard that the NGO's are the ones that have the money....
Those poor people need to have lessons and training to transfer into a farming community from a tourist driven economy. Many Caribbean Island community's do very well with niche farming community's.
My father was a former diplomat in Haiti and I had a chance to live there for about 2 years. It's a shame what has happened that country.
Sean, thank you for using your success and helping others. If only others would follow in your footsteps.
Sean, What about shipping containers(tractor trailors) for temporary housing. They are 40' or 53' long and could be easily modified tor sanitation. Hooking several together could help in the hurricane season.
Grateful to Sean Penn for his dedication to assist Haiti.
Thank YOU Anderson for keeping Haiti in the news.
Is the gov. of Haiti still asking for "taxes" on incoming aid?
I can't help but wonder how many Haitian people could be fed on what it cost to throw one of those wasteful Oscar parties.
#1. FEMA Flat houses. Formerly a private FEMA contractor, Harbor Homes LLC has an impeccable record producing temporary housing, travel trailers, and more for disaster relief inside the United States.These are collapsable and ready to ship.!!!!
#2. There are other Hotels outside of the city. Is it possible to use these as a temporary solution. Is it possible to use the FEMA
Good for Sean Penn. I really appreciate celebrities who use their status to help others. Way Cool!
Anderson and Sean,
Please help me understand why there are not military camps/mash units set up in Haiti...we have tons of troops in training or waiting to go to war...couldn't they serve in Haiti in the mean time...these ARE human beings!! Pls help me to understand! Thank you for all your are doing ...Lori
Good Work Sean. We support you.
right now the number 1 priority is not rebuliding. its getting people sheltered for the rainy season. period end of story.
Thanks for keeping us updated on the situation in Haiti
@Betty
Yes, I know...... There are so suffering lot struggle to eat or without eat, very poor there. I agree with you, It isn't fair for people.
Hurricane season is coming also in Haiti around May-June
