Homicide in Hollenbeck: Join the AC360° Live Chat

[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/02/liveblogfinal.copy.jpg]

Tonight on 360°, we take you back to Hollenbeck, an area in L.A., where we brought you a documentary on gangs five years ago. Has the stop snitchin' code changed? Plus, we're keeping them honest in Haiti. As the rains pour down in Haiti, thousands of quake survivors still don't have tents to stay dry. Why? We'll talk to the Red Cross.

In regards to the shooting death in Hollenbeck, I spent about 5 years in a part of inner city Chicago, known as K-town. I extend my most sincere condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Bueno but in response the people that are critical of people who are "afraid" put yourself in that position. I am in the military, but have someone threaten your loved ones lives and then check your blood pressure. I agree with Mr. Perry, but there are so many extenuating circumstances that it is ridiculous.

I did not watch the Oscars. I am too busy and can't sit down for longer than a minute. I would rather wait for the conclusion on the next morning and get the results in a minute or less.

I am really happy for Sandra Bullock. I think that she is beautiful and very grounded.

I could not understand the point of the speach from woman in purple. It was totally wasted on me.

Good night and sweet dreams. See you tomorrow.

The Oscar stage should have a bright Red hook to remove deranged, bumbling speakers from the stage.

Sandra Bullock really looked vastly aged in the Oscars tonight and this past year. Her schedule has been very hectic but has anyone said anything about health issues?

    March 8, 2010 at 10:57 pm |
  20. Paula, Colorado

The Oscars are always kind of tedious.

    March 8, 2010 at 10:57 pm |
  21. Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio

Most Oscar broadcasts are boring. It didn't help that, except for Avatar, few people saw these movies.

    @Nancy,

I agree with you. ...what a terrible way to live. For sure not a good way to live.

I am so happy bacause Bullock and Bigelow wins in the Oscars, but I am sad because Avatar didn't win for best picture! I was expecting that this movie wins, but the Oscar are like that, unpredictable!

Good night Anderson, Emily, Isabel, Dodie, Heather, Megan D, Starr, 360 Crew and everyone!

Jane-Obama is right--Congressman need to get off their butts and do the job they were sent to Washington to do. All they think about is being re-elected, retirement & health insurance guaranteed!!

Great to see Sandra Bullock win. I think she and Kate Winslet were the best dressed women and Colin Firth was a knockout!

7000$ for a cubicle! and cars that already depreciated the second they left the lot-parked. Wow! I wonder if the pigeons are making good use of them as target practice.

The reporting by Anderson and Dr Gupta an all of the other reporters on Haiti was amazing. I really applaud them for that. Very good to hear and see updates.. Hope the money raised in The United States and other country will have an impact, and help the Haiti people. I can still see Anderson next to the graves... It's so sad what happened to this country.

This is so typical I work in the school system and it frustrates me to see them laying off teachers and not giving raise for years because of budget cut but meanwhile they are spending millions of dollars on new windows, furniture, flat screen monitors, phone systems etc. – I often wonder how do they prioritize they spending... you are right AC unbelievable!

When i thought government couldn't get more ignorant, I am again proved wrong!

This incident in CA is an outrage given how many services that have had to cut. And, the massive increase in health benefits too.

There needs to be a house cleaning from the top to the bottom. Last week a state Senator was pulled over for DUI after a night of partying in a state vehicle. RIDICULOUS!

    @Danie T.
It can be hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel with the history that Haiti has, IMO, however, I hope that things will get better for them there.
There has been much money donated from all over the world for their recovery.
    Only time will tell.

The government could make major budget cuts that are not necessary, but yet they are forcing schools to make budget cuts. As it is students are already in debt from student loans and with these budget cuts the government is forcing us further in debt, because tuition keeps rising from these cuts. Why are students getting the raw end of the deal?

I can tell you that CalTrans doesn't spend money on road repairs. It's not only CalTrans that's up to this type of stuff. I read a distressing report from the LA Times today about elected officials collecting unemployment once their terms in office are up.

@Starr...I do agree with you...they do serve a purpose out there. Secretly I desired at one time to do exactly what they are doing, weather has fasinated me, but then reality hits. I don't have what it takes to storm chase 🙂

Across America, the most expensive and expansive buildings are the State and Federal buildings. Marble columns, marble stairways, huge custom crafted desks are all to common and are a stark contrast to the dilapidated homes and business's nearby. How many Hundreds of Billions of taxpayer dollars were spent adding security cameras to all of them the past 10 years? American taxpayers will never be told!

I am so sad to hear that in Haiti everything is still the same, maybe a little better, but poor people, That's sad news! Thanks for the update!

@ Mike (Syracuse) If you had been denied coverage, or lost half your retirement you would very well undertstand that unrestrained corporate greed is indeed the enemy.

Millions $$$ for flat sceen tv's and office furniture?

What?..... are they made out of gold?

    March 8, 2010 at 10:48 pm |
  43. David, Indiana

@Isabel, Yes that's a good point. It takes courage even to call an anonymous tip line.

@Starr, you are right about families and parents.

These tents in the video look very vulnerable. Good to get Matt Marek's insights about the housing situation in Haiti.

What are transitional shelters? Are these better storm resistant shelters and tents. There are such tents that are sold only to relief agencies. The tents in the video don't look like such tents. What more sturdy housing is being considered and who is leading that?

    March 8, 2010 at 10:48 pm |
  44. starr, formerly known as vincent

I the Haitian government trying to "tax" incoming supplies, including tents?

I did check into geodesic domes and they are not only feasible they are the perfect structure for that area (eathquakes & hurricanes).

I am planning on contacting the Clinton Foundation to see how that kind of housing can be implimented. And, any other agency i can think of.

With the rains now and hurricanes sure to come, these wonderful people are at very high risk of disease and so many more deaths.

    Nancy in Oregon,
Well, Anywhere in the world is most normal, On depends are Tornado, Earthquakes, Fires, Hurricanes, or Flash Flood, you need know to prepare for 3 days to keep safety.

    March 8, 2010 at 10:48 pm |
  47. Leslie

Many reports are saying that there are still thousands of people who still has not received help since the quake. Raining and hurricane season is around the corner. Haiti is more vulnerable now with 10,000 NGOs running amok that don’t have the people best interest. Some of these NGOs employees are the one who has the big mansion and big cars in Haiti while the poor stay hungry. Anderson, please keep them honest.

    March 8, 2010 at 10:48 pm |
  48. Mike - Las Vegas

Why are these people still in Port-au-Prince? If they have nothing and their homes have been destroyed, why not move them to another city somewhere that hasn't been as affected as where they're trying to "live" now?

Oscar majic – Kanye was here!

The woman butted into the poor man's speech last night and no one understood or cared what she had to say.

What ever happened to originality? Perhaps we should bring back the days when people would streak, butt naked, across the stage carrying signs. Now that's gutsy, entertaining and rememberable. Butting into someone's speech mid stream to make a point; now that's just rude. : )
