Starting tonight at 7 p.m. ET join us here for the AC360° Academy Awards Live Blog. The winners, the losers, the debate over Best Supporting Kardashian…we’ve got your running commentary. And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important. But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.
We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.
What makes me qualified to lead this live blog? Well, I once worked at a video store/tanning parlor. And I own Fletch on VHS.
If you would like to participate in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) please follow our rules.
Here are some of them:
1) Please keep your comments short
2) Don’t write in ALL CAPS (we don’t like screaming)
3) No links
4) Use your real name
Please note that due to volume we may not be able to post all comments.

YAYAYAY! i am so glad THE COVE won for best documentary. it is amazing!
Bea Arthur was also in "Lovers and Other Strangers" and "Mame."
what motion picture was Michael Jackson in if that is the case for Bea Arthur! Farrah was in some movies.
Jeff Bridges..deserving of an Oscar award
Other best supporting actors don't look very happy
Wow!!! He has been married for 33 years with the same woman! Nowadays, this is a victory!
Jeff Bridges seems like such a great guy...
Jeff Bridges forgot to thank his beard.
Wow people clapped ovation for Jeff Bridges!!!!!! Congrats Jeff!!! But Morgan Freeman is best actor!!!!!
They could have cut that 10 minutes to talk about the actors, and let Jeff recite some lines from The Big Lebowski. That would boost the entertainment level.
Yes! Jeff Bridges! Country music is gonna ride this one a little longer. Good stuff.
Congrats to The Dude.
Won the expected! And well deserved too!
yay! Jeff Bridges! I loved Crazy Heart. if you liked The Wrestler, you'd probably enjoy it... it's kind of a country music version of that. very good.
Way to go Jeff Bridges
Farrah was in Logan's Run, Cannonball Runn, Saturn 3...
that was awkward
I love when they give the personal speeches. Last year when former winners presented to each nominee, I had tears in my eyes throughout the entire show.
Colin Farrell and Colin Firth are super dreamy
see Jack, i think we are soulmates! I am a mini Julianne Moore and i don't like Avatar...and i think Sammy rocks, she and i can share our wine.
Of course, if someone did walk on water It'd be great TV, and I wouldn't feel like I just wasted the last few hours 🙂
I'm getting tired of actors fueling each other's egos. Being nominated is enough. There's no need to continue with all these monologues. It's a bit self indulgent.
Wow...let's boost their egos a little bit more...
Morgan Freeman is the best! He really is a master!
Wow. This little speech-about-every-nominee thing is a bit much. They were all incredible... we know this, BECAUSE OF THE NOMINATION.
This is sort of like listening to obituaries.
I would love it if Precious won (or anything but avatar). (full disclosure: i haven't seen any of the best pic nominees) it would maybe mean that james cameron's ego would no longer need its own seat. some of the best movies of all time have very few special effects.
jamie, philly: YOU ARE RIGHT, that was the only spontaneous moment!
Paul Newman died in 2008. Bea Arthur was not credited in any movies – she was a television superstar, but according to IMDB was only in "History of the World Part I" on film.
They did have a news story about changing to "the winner is... " instead of "the Oscar goes to..."
GEORGE CLOONEY is the man that every woman dreams! lol ...
He is perfect !!!!!!
I saw all of the nominated Best Actor performances. They were all spectacular.
Did Farrah do any motion pictures?
Ok...let's remember that these are Actors. No one walks on water or cures cancer....
The best Actor nominee section is making me nuts.
@Kimberly Miller Thanks!
Damn this show is running long. I like this segment tho.
Michelle Pfeiffer is still pfabulous.
I let the DVR record for a while. Just fast-forwarded through all the boring stuff – the parts when Alec and Steve aren't on stage. *yawn*
Michelle Pfeiffer is always beautiful and young! She is wonderful!
bring back the rude lady who interrupted her partner in the short doc category-that will liven this show up
Stacy from NJ,
Paul Newman died 2 years ago.
Misery loves company here. Whud I miss? 🙂
@judymccord
Julianne Moore is gorgeous. I saw her on the subway the other day.
I have a beta fish named "Betty White" 🙂 She is fierce!
Oscars have been boring. I just finished reading my book with the Oscars in the background. Best part was the dancing to the movie scores.
Bea Arthur died April 25, 09, somehow they missed her too.
So how many minutes will it run over? That's how many minutes I have to take off the time I'm not spending on the treadmill.
@Stacy from NJ–According to Wikipedia Paul Newman died in 2008. Still can't believe they didn't include Farrah Fawcett, maybe it's because she's known for TV and not movies?
What's with the lampshades? I don't get it.
Anyone else notice that they're saying, "And the winner is..." instead of, "And the Oscar goes to..."?
@Jamie No you're not alone...I have not seen Avitar and do not care anything about seeing it either.
@Jamie: I didn't see Avatar and I have no interest in seeing it. I'm sure it's a cinematic tour de force but I'm just not into that genre, whatever it is. Unless Betty White is in Avatar. Then I'll go.
