Jack Gray
AC360° Producer/Writer

Starting tonight at 7 p.m. ET join us here for the AC360° Academy Awards Live Blog.  The winners, the losers, the debate over Best Supporting Kardashian…we’ve got your running commentary. And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important. But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.

We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.

What makes me qualified to lead this live blog? Well, I once worked at a video store/tanning parlor. And I own Fletch on VHS.

If you would like to participate in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) please follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Please keep your comments short
2) Don’t write in ALL CAPS (we don’t like screaming)
3) No links
4) Use your real name

Please note that due to volume we may not be able to post all comments.

That clip about the dolphin was horrifying! Documentary filmmakers deserve more credit for the work they do.

other blogs are saying that Farrah was not shown during the tribute of actors who died during the year! I missed that ! If so that was so wrong! I wonder why she was missed if that is true!

Also not much interaction with the hosts this year especially since there was two hosts this year!

Nonverbal communication(dance) is important to the arts. It is expression.

I agree, these awards seem to be dragging and cutting off the acceptance speeches is giving us nothing to talk about, it's like they are playing it safe tonight.

If it wasn't for this blog, I'd have fallen asleep by now.

Thanks for hosting the live blog tonight Jack! Good Night bloggers!

I am trying to stay awake for the Best Documentary category – a friend is nominated for Food Inc but this show is a total bore!

    March 7, 2010 at 10:57 pm |
  22. Gale

Maybe they had to cut out the musical productions and performances of best songs, so they could show clips from those additional 5 movies that have no chance at winning Best Pic?

One big monochromatic yawn!! Where's Betty White?!!

Avatar is best movie in the year!!!!!!!

    March 7, 2010 at 10:56 pm |
  28. Isabel Siaba

The best part of Avatar is this: visual effects.

For me, Avatar is a movie much more to "see" than to understand, to think or to like!

I think someone who actually sits at home and watches the Oscars year after year should be in charge of coordinating it–that way they might actually come up with something interesting.

Why the hell is George Clooney so damn ornery!? He is gonna be in the remake of Grumpy Old men! Watch!

This year's Awards: one big monochromatic yawn! Stage too industrial, to antiseptic...

    March 7, 2010 at 10:53 pm |
  43. Amy

What the heck is up with George Clooney? Does he need anti-depressants or something? I heard that this year they were trying to shorten the time of the show & that is why they did not have the performances for the nominated songs. Yet they have all the other crap...like that long dance that made zero sense?

    March 7, 2010 at 10:53 pm |

How come no one told SJP to comb her hair?

Is Sammy tired right now or eating some food?

Couldn't disagree more about the Awards being boring - just because no one is using the stage for their own political means, doesn't mean it lacks excitement. My wife and I feel this is more entertaining than usual - and Martin/Baldwin are perfect.

    Dancing was great but boring.

The theme from UP ... I love this movie!

    March 7, 2010 at 10:50 pm |
  49. Jack Gray

@Laura: I would book presenters with more gravitas and better chemistry. I would have performances of the nominated songs, I would let Lauren Bacall make a speech. I would have some surprise walk-ons. I would cut out the interpretive dance. Of course, it's all easier said than done.
