After the extend of the sex scandals in the US, i am no longer surprised at scandal in the Catholic church, even the Vatican.

    @Randi-Kaye, terrific report as always!

One ring leader was a member of the Pope's personal staff wasn't he?

Geez, more sex scandals, and now they have reached the Vatican!
    This is sickening!!!! ;(

There is a link between smoking pot and paranoid schizophrenia.
Maybe that is what set off the pentagon shooter. It would be a good story for Anderson to investigate. Mental illness is devestating for a family to endure and my heart goes out to them.

@ Isabel, if you call the discovery of the Vatican male prostitute ring a 'scandal' YES it certainly is a eye opener on what is actually going on there behind the scenes and doors.

I love John Walsh and what he is doing to protect our children. Let’s catch all these sex offenders and put them all on an island together.

    @ A. Smith,

"Ah, Bi-Polar but able to buy a firearm."

    Good point!
How was John Patrick Bedell able to buy a gun?!
    Has anyone answered that question?

the guy from the pentagon attack also claimed the goverment was lying about 9/11

@ A. Smith, Oregon-LOL, you are so right. Our guns laws make no sense whatsoever.

    March 5, 2010 at 10:26 pm |
  21. A. Smith, Oregon

Prison Guard wanted for multiple murders on family members. Such a surprise, sounds like a hard core serial abuser that was likely hired because of his love and joy to hurt other people.

Another scandal in the Vatican. As a Catholic, I am ashamed!

    Wow, that is great!
Congrats to the person that phoned the police on that CON!

I think the shooter is mentally ill. He sounds paranoid. He might have thought the goverment was out to get him. I know someone who doesn't even trust his mother.

Unfortunately, as the government continues to turn a deaf ear to the people, the country may see more of these episodes from these nuts.

If he was not in a Mental Hospital, then WHY was he not in Jail for not showing up for Court?
was there not a warrant issued for his arrest?

    March 5, 2010 at 10:23 pm |
  29. Sharon Hastings

Sounds like this man had been unravelling for some time and was off his medication. It's very hard to get some people with chronic mental illness to continue to take their medication.

whether or not terrostismo, john patrick bedell killed and wounded innocent people

    March 5, 2010 at 10:22 pm |
  32. A. Smith, Oregon

Ah, Bi-Polar but able to buy a firearm. That is the direction this is heading. Push all future gun-owners to submit to mental health exams, scan their medical records for mental health issues. Makes sense, neo-conservatives are fearful of anyone owning guns other than the people they own.

    That's not an illness; that's a plan!

  34. David, Indiana

@Emily wasn't Zacarias Moussaoui tried in a civilian court?

@Starr, that's a very good question. It would be nice to see that contrast reviewed.

Well the decision could be dangling out there as David Gergen says, I think the admin should stick with the federal courts.

    March 5, 2010 at 10:21 pm |
  35. Vivian - Mtl

I don't want to sound like some crazy with my comments but if it was the other way around and you were being tryed in their country, you'd be dead already.

Has anyone read this book yet?
If so, what did you think of it?

Why aren't these nut jobs kept locked up?

    March 5, 2010 at 10:21 pm |
  38. Karoline, Los Angeles

Wow. Once again we see that our nation does not have a good safety net for the mentally ill.

  39. starr, formerly known as vincent

    @ A. Smith

I hope the gov's response will be measured, not heavy handed. I don't think they are thinking of punishing all Americans.

I do not expect too much change in gun laws or the use of Kevlar.

I don't understand why we are giving them any sort of trial: they have declared war on us, and are prisoners of war captured on the battlefield. We didn't let the Germans prisoners of war go until WW2 was over. The same in every war. They should stay behind bars in a military prison until the war is over.

Blame this one marijuana! How very sad! He sounds like he was an abuser of many of America's pharmaceutical 'legal' drugs.

    March 5, 2010 at 10:20 pm |
  43. Mike, formerly from Syracuse

@A. Smith, the Pentagon guards did their job and stopped the attacker. Why would there be any crackdown?

    March 5, 2010 at 10:19 pm |
  44. Emily

I don't understand why John Patrick Bedell was not in a hospital somewhere.

    March 5, 2010 at 10:18 pm |

It not safe to take anyone for granted at security points.

    Dear, AC360/tv/.com
I hate peoples who hurts the United States Of America and this guy was a nuts! he has so, many guns thanks god he did not go to a U. S mall.

  47. Steve - NC

How can the administration go forward with civilian trials if the Democrats in congress will not get onboard to approve the funding? Is it possible to hold civilian trials on a military base to reduce costs?

    March 5, 2010 at 10:18 pm |
  48. starr, formerly known as vincent

    @Mike, formerly from Syracuse

I knew you would know the if there was any difference between military tribunals or commission. THAnks!

    March 5, 2010 at 10:17 pm |
  49. A. Smith, Oregon

A very real question is how the Federal Govt. will respond after a single deranged armed man attacked the Pentagon yesterday. Will they further strip firearm freedoms or entirely ban civilian use of Kevlar? The Government response will likely be heavy handed and designed to punish all Americans.

    @Matt,
could you imagine the costs that would incur if KSM were to go to trial in Manhattan?
