Plus, killer waves hit a cruise ship in the Mediterranean. How did it happen? Could the captain and crew see the danger?

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

Thank you Radi-Kaye for another excellent report. God bless that congressman. I have often wondered if All of Congress had to live that way, if they would be more based in reality – bet they would!

What Chaffetz does isn't unheard of. I know in our country, where members of congress are mostly millionaires, can we find solons who travel to the House on a bicycle.

I think it's great this guy is sleeping on a cot at work. Nice to see someone acting what they preach.

He still makes over 100K! While the rest of us Americans are unemployed (myself included)

So he is living rent free? I wish I had a place to live rent free.

Seems like a stunt to me.

@BettyAnn...I had a similar thing happen to me in the late 70s......heavy starboard list and the pool emptied out with all the deck furniture crashing against the glass, etc., etc. It scared me to death......and I've been cruising ever since.

I can't believe this congressman is still sleeping in his office.

Isn't this a piece that was run months ago?

    March 4, 2010 at 10:58 pm |
  23. LisaL -Canada

what the heck is wrong with sleeping in your office? by the time you add in commute time, and working odd hours, it really seems to be quite a brilliant solution. just add a mini-fridge – good to go!!

    March 4, 2010 at 10:57 pm |
  24. Emily

Can he write it off as an office expense?

Is it legal for the congressman to "live" in his office?

    March 4, 2010 at 10:56 pm |
  31. Emily

    @Bloggers,
Do you think that this is a stunt?

It's a great message to run on....

    March 4, 2010 at 10:56 pm |
  32. Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio

There have been some pretty "spirited" debates in those halls, I wouldn't be surprised if ghosts of people like Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, and even Reagan walk those halls at night!

    March 4, 2010 at 10:56 pm |
  33. Sheila Toomey

This next story looks hilarious. You would never think of a Congressman sleeping on a cot.

    March 4, 2010 at 10:55 pm |
  34. BettyAnn, Nacogdoches,TX

I have cruised many times ( about 20?) and only had something like that happen once. And that was a small ship. Nobody died (except a man who had a heart attack) but the ship was turned on it's side and sloshed all the people out of the pool!
But, It is really safe. I'll cruise anytime!

Thank Anderson, for having Sebastian unger on the program. It was informative (yes, i still have one letter that does not work on my keyborad).

Definitely looking forward to his new book, War.

    March 4, 2010 at 10:54 pm |
  36. A. Smith, Oregon

The congressman sleeping in his office must have gotten wind of all the investigative reporting on the infamous C street congressional apartment complex and infamous 'The Family' that runs it and didn't want to be part of that 'story'.

    March 4, 2010 at 10:54 pm |
  37. charlie

@ Shella: Yep that is the nonsense of having separate legal processes and rights for terrorists (normally assumed to be Non US citizens). The US will eventually have to develop a body of law to decide who goes into which justice system. The evergreen industry of law. gotta love it.

    March 4, 2010 at 10:53 pm |
  38. David, Indiana

@Starr, its hard to know why someone would commit such a senseless crime, although we don't know any of the details at this point.

@Karen, MN Truly seems like that's how a farm should be.

Troubling story about Ivins. I can understand the counselor reporting a possible crime, but what about confidentiality of her patient beyond that?

    March 4, 2010 at 10:53 pm |
  39. Gabriela Vaughan from Nicaragua

    @ Sheila Toomey

Yes, I didn't knew where it was, until I saw the whole video! For me it's more scary when that happened just like that, when a wave like this one hits a cruiser without a previous warning or previous situation that cause it, that's scary!

    March 4, 2010 at 10:53 pm |
  40. Nicole from the Netherlands

Wow that passenger Tom Berg was a dutch guy, recognize the accent everywhere. Megan, Starr,. Emily, Devin, Thanks for the welcome!
I was in doubt if to react, foreign as I am. But the reporting on AC is addictive.. And then I found the blog, happy to meet you all. Have a good night!

    March 4, 2010 at 10:53 pm |
  41. Emily

    @Gabriela,

"Oh My God this video of the cruiser is Scary! How terrifying it could be? there's no place to run!!!"

That's so true, and it's not easy to swim in those huge waves!

    March 4, 2010 at 10:52 pm |
  42. A. Smith, Oregon

Looks like Pilot error on taking that huge wave into the side of the ship. The captain had to had seen that wave approaching his ship. Huge wave, nobody watching, disaster occurs!

The Perfect Storm happened off the coast of Glouster, Ma. Near where I live. Scary.
